Sensible people should port to android TV stick/box.

Been on that mountain for years and no regrets.

Access to thousands of movies, hundreds of series, and live channels from all over the world.

For FREE

But if you want to boost the variety of your content and eliminate buffering you can pay small subscriptions each month
Re: Price Hike Forces Many South Africans To Dump DSTV by Bullfallo(m):
Since I bought android smart box.

I didn’t think I will subscribe dstv again.

Even in the western world cable tv have lost market share to data tv. Data tv in few years to come will remove cable tv from business. Data tv is the future once smart tv penetrate every household.

Data tv is much more expensive but you ger the quality of service like choice of what you want. And if you are streaming boring movies you can just stop it. You can reverse or forward movie. The control worth the price
Re: Price Hike Forces Many South Africans To Dump DSTV by Greattha: 1:43pm On Jun 03, 2024
Data is not expensive compared to dstv.

Just check well...there are unlimited packages from 10k (with reasonable caps) that you can never exhaust in a month unless you watch TV all day (which is worrying) or you prefer high-def (1080p, 4k, 8k) when one has chance to watch.

Ikaeniyan0:
The only reason Nigerians are not dropping it is because of how expensive data price is

Lol

Which network is giving 10k(with reasonable caps) for unlimited data plan?

[quote author=Robertgreene1 post=130285549]Interesting....l subbed my Gotv for $5100 last Monday.... something that was #4200 last month...the girl shocked me further when she told me that a Gotv decorder goes for 50k now... something l bought for 4500 way back in 2015 when l was still in the uni...
Worse part is that the only channel l watch on Gotv these days is only Aljazeera news and sometimes football on Super Sports select finish...when I'm not busy working oo....all other channels are wack!!!
I asked the girl about startimes decorder...she told me it goes for only #13500 and with a sub of less than 4k l can enjoy better channels...
Please anyone that uses Startimes here...does it show Aljazeera news?
This Gotv don tire me...l wan port to Startimes![/quote
Startimes decoder price is way more than DSTV decoder 29.5k as at today 2nd of June. Economy effect of COVID 19 just reach this part of the world, Its just a pity.
Re: Price Hike Forces Many South Africans To Dump DSTV by izombie(m): 1:46pm On Jun 03, 2024
Smart tv is the way to go now. The only time i watch dstv is to watch football and F1.
Re: Price Hike Forces Many South Africans To Dump DSTV by Timothy89(m): 1:47pm On Jun 03, 2024
Their hike is never a problem but doing that at this time makes it more insensitivity, hiking subscription when Nigerians are going through economic meltdown cause by Tinubu policies

Everything I need to watch on dstv/gotv I watch and download them on phone at lesser amount of 1500naira monthly, so what's the point
Re: Price Hike Forces Many South Africans To Dump DSTV by meobizy(m): 1:54pm On Jun 03, 2024
South Africans no get money. This is nothing new. It was why they tried to merge their BBMzansi with BBNaija to milk Nigerians off our hard-earned currency. E no work. I’m here wondering if DStv is honestly needed in my house. All I use the service for is MMA and international news.

I Don pack up my Explora decoder since the last hike in price.

I encourage everyone to go FTA and combine with data service. It's way better in this economy. What people don't know is that DSTV markets some free channels on their packages and expects you to break a bank vault for your subscription.

Very wicked people!
Re: Price Hike Forces Many South Africans To Dump DSTV by Ade1177: 2:26pm On Jun 03, 2024
Others should take advantage and include better channels

To watch matches is better on dstv

I have tried 1001 sport app to watch online

But it's all frustrating with Arabic commentary
Sometimes it will hang and stop streaming at important moment

Stupid ads
Won't show atall

It's when you need it most it won't work

All these prirated apps are just so frustrating
For peace of mind and the kids

I Just subscribe to dstv

Still waiting for a better alternative

They still have over 8 million subscribers which is more than Nigerian subscribers. Don't get carried away with the word 'DUMP' in the headline. Read the contents.

You are saying that Nigerians only come online to complain, do you have stats of Nigerian DSTV subscribers of 2022 and 2023? No, you don't. You are just making assumptions that they have not lost subscribers in Nigeria.
Do you have the stats too? how do you know South African subscribers are more than Nigerian subscribers? pot calling kettle black...cho cho cho without evidence.

Breaking!

1. Could it be that MultiChoice doesn't want to spend any more money in infrastructure upgrade.
2. They deliberately hike price to shed some weight & still maintain a sizeable no. customers base...
3. If this is the strategy, they could still survive any customer casualties they suffer.
4. This is possible where there's no competition!
