A landlord, Benjamin Apeh, reportedly died after he collapsed during an argument with his tenant over unpaid rent.

SP Omolola Odutola, the Public Relations Officer, Police Command, Ogun, in a statement on Tuesday in Abeokuta, said the incident occurred on Sunday at Arigbabu Village, Sotubo in Sagamu local government area of Ogun.

Odutola said that a suspected murder case was reported on Monday at 5:00 p.m., by the daughter of the deceased, Precious Apeh.

According to the police spokesperson, the daughter of the deceased informed the police that her father had an argument with the tenant at 7:20p.m., on Saturday, over unpaid house rent.

Odutola said Precious Apeh further told the police that at around 6:30 a.m., on Sunday, she heard her father again arguing with the tenant, who threatened to kill him.

“During the argument, Apeh collapsed and was rushed to NNPC Hospital, Mosimi, but was later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. The suspect fled the scene, but efforts are underway to apprehend him,” the police spokesman said.

Odutola said that the body of the deceased has been deposited at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) Morgue, Sagamu.(NAN)

Land lords should try to take things easy with their tenants o, things are hard these days.

Tenants should try to be considerate and pay their rents as soon as possible, most of these land lords depends solely on the proceeds from the rents for survival.

Be careful of going into any scuffle these period. People will take out the frustrations on the next person.

Don't live in the same compound with your landlord/Landlady. The experience is not always nice at all.

Honestly you wouldn't know how evil some tenants can be until you have one.

You will wish you never built the house.

The law in it's intention to protect tenants from wicked Landlords has now turned many of them into heartless monsters.

One will almost run mad seeing an unruly tenant who isn't paying rent still staying in the house 6 months after owing/ eviction notices.

Ask your lawyers, you'll see how difficult tenancy/landlord laws make homeowners' lives.

Avoid arguments and fight these days o.. Most persons are walking d**d cux of overthinking and hunger o..

He could've considered the tenant situation, collect the meager and move on with his life. And unfortunately nobody have his present bank account in his new world. The tenant could probably be a Nigerian worker battling with N30,000 minimum wage to survive

Many landlords are at an age they have illnesss they are managing. And it's this rent they use to buy drugs to manage them. Tenants getting them agitated spikes the blood pressure and that's how people die fast.

Economy is bad yes but its bad for landlords also. Pack to your village if you can't afford city rent or go to live under bridge.

If there's recorded evidence of a threat to life during the argument, that tenant needs a very sound lawyer or he's going to jail. Nigerian Police no wan sabi whether him touch landlord or not.

Agreed. As long as the tenant did not touch him whatsoever or send anyone to hurt him physically, the tenant has no business with police case.

That's why it's always wise to run away from physical alterations or scuffles. You never know who is healthy or of sound mind.
