while doing my o n g posting I witnessed a Jehovah witness who said they don't want blood transfusion and it is always dramatic.I love the Consultant on duty that day, he kept everyone on their toes till the lady delivered with alot of dramas.
Obs and gyna dept is a place u don't tell them you don't want blood transfusion because things could go south even with blood transfusion.
Did what OP put up there shows that the woman died because she did not ACCEPT blood transfusion? Be honest with your response, hence, you may look like a .........

They always seem to think it makes the woman less of a woman. Very nonsense mentality. One elderly woman in my street was arguing that children born through CS don't have rights to claim inheritance. Wahala. As if carrying the child for nine months wasn't enough.
This is new 😂 😂 😂

So trained nurses can’t be religious?

Tell me more. Should I stop going to church then? 🙄

Nothing in his posts suggests that an imminent blood transfusion could have saved his wife and he refused. Everything that led to her death was due to mismanagement of the woman’s case by the hospital staff.

Does he deserve it simply because he’s a religious person? When his religious beliefs did not interfere at any point?

Tell me at what point his beliefs stopped them from doing what they should have done to save her.

I’m going to need some of you to remove your bias goggles and look at what actually happened instead of assuming what you think could have happened based on his beliefs. If this hospital is so awesome, why weren’t they adequately monitoring this patient?
This generation is gone, it's a wasted generation that lacks empathy!! This guy's wakes up everyday with a very biased mind, so warped that nothing good goes in, nothing good comes out!
I have ask a question and am yet to get an answer..How does this event shows that the woman died because she refused blood transfusion? Did you read anywhere to show that oh they offered blood transfusion and we refused!! I used Jolad at Bariga in 2015 for my wife CS and in 2023 for another CS..The decline was glaring! I am not a medic, but am educated and I know Wassup!
Look at all the LIST of equipment that the man COUNTED that was not available, including an ordinary ambulance, and a competent doc on duty even tho he's aware his patient is around, yet the prob according to some idiot is his religious orientation..May this evil you promote visit you one day!!We are all in Nig, and you know what, it's sooner or later...
May God bless you ma, for being a light in d midst of darkness...

This guy is sound. Side effects of oxytocin injection in addition to several induction tablets has caused the ruptured of the uterus. This guy has exposed the negligence of the hospital. The consultant was in another hospital and the registered midwife has no clue of what their doings. Can you imagined , they indirectly engaged the guy as an anaesthetic when their in house anaesthetic was not competent enough to handle the case. This guy needs to japa to realize his potential.

Let's not pretend like you don't know Nigerian men have a stigma against CS.
You are so daft. Did you not see the screenshot of the man agreeing to CS. Did you even read the OP writeup. Just wants to argue for arguing sake.

Do you understand how irrational they can be when faced with options like this?
Despite how knowledgeable he is on the subject, he sat down for hours upon hours hoping that the woman would give birth by pushing when with his knowledge he could have saved her life by being the one to push for cs immediately he realized she's not dilating.

Unfortunate series of events, but what I find troubling and suspicious in his narrative of events is this:if your wife was not contracting after rupture of the membranes, what the hospital did was what any other standard facility would do,they started with cytotec,at the lowest dose recommended, repeated when there was still no noticeable contraction, then scaled up to oxytocin.
The one issue I found with the Hospital management is that they would have exhausted the full 4 dose regimen of cytotec before starting with oxytocin.
The problem with dealing with men like this that feel they know it all from what they read is that you must play everything by the book,if not they would use one issue as being the cause of a mishap.
All these things he mentioned, paediatrician being present, physician, using infusion pump, partograph,CTG monitor, etc, even in advanced countries they are not as it's made out to be where all these personnel and instruments would be available.
I bet if he had been told from the onset that his wife needed to be sectioned,he would have blatantly refused and told them to exhaust every other means.
But here he is finding fault with every step taken.
It's sad he has lost both wife and child, but finding fault with every step is just ridiculous.
His wife came by 11am with no issues, was he expecting the consultant to be on ground monitoring an expected uneventful labour?
Let the hospital say it's own side of the story.
Mishaps happen all over the world and there is no where every case is done by the book.
It's sad and may God grant him the fortitude to bear the loss.
Regarding the red bolded, how are we sure they did not try without success to convince him to have a CS? Only God knows the number of JW people that died due to this silly twisting of a bible verse. SMH

He was only supporting the idea and not giving consent. The next chat explains his mindset at the time.

I can tell you that it is easier for the doctor to have a cs done right away, than to have to monitor a woman for hours during labour.
People just see that agreed and believe that's a consent to cs. That particular discussion was even way before she entered labour. He had probably suggested to the consultant that he didn't want a cs and he explained situations where a cs may be necessary to which he agreed

From the way the labour events played, it's obvious he hesitated on the idea of cs. He is a knowledgeable person in the field, why wait over 12 hours with your wife and baby unattended to? I guess he was hoping she'd start contractions later and give birth naturally.

That's not evidence bro. That's a discussion that happened way before the woman even entered labour. There's a reason the discussion preceding it was not included. The question is, what is on the power of attorney he signed and submitted to the hospital? Not some inclusive 2 lines from a long WhatsApp discussion.

Wow..speechless.

Such a huge baby.

So sorry for your loss. It seems from your detailed narrative that all of these could have been avoided.

At the heart of this painful story is the below from the grieving husband:

He recalled: "Early into the Pregnancy, we discussed with Dr Marcus that we were Jehovah's witnesses and we seek bloodless medical and surgical care which he was comfortable with. We also made a durable power of attorney document available 2 months prior to delivery.

The Doctor and hospital will try to latch onto this to explain away the "alleged" negligence.

This promises to be a very interesting case as the husband in question is very well learned in the field and also very detailed.
I'm not siding anybody yet, I'm grieved at the loss. Yet the truth from my experience is that J.W are one of the worst patients to have.

Don't screen people out - educate them.
Many Nigerians don't like education, their bias and sentiments always comes first.

Being a health worker in Nigeria is frustrating.

Patients with relatives or Medical Doctor/Nurses friends abroad are even worse.

You will talk and talk and talk and "So so and so wants to speak with you on the phone" is all you will hear without interest in whatever you have to say.

They will make it look like all you are after is money, many people will believe traditional healers and scammers before believing a trained professional.

Truthfully and honeslty, most times health workers educate patients out of experience and care and it breaks their hearts when things go wrong because it could have been avoided.

My tired is tired.

He was the one contacting the Doctor, why wasn't the wife in charge of her own birth protocol?

Nclex-rn no issue because US nursing council have given Nigerian nurses a waiver on verification and US employers no send WHO red list bullshiiit lol. So if your target is to write Nclex-rn and relocate to US, then your issue with Naija wicked government policies on healthcare professionals is reduced but if your target is UK, Ireland, MiddleEast, etc, e go hard
Interesting.

So, does the waiver mean Nigerian nurses have to write the exam or not? Or does it mean the WHO blacklist doesn't affect Nigerian nurses who wish to work in the US?

Thank you.

I agree. It's not even the religious aspect that's my issue, I know they can have the surgery w/o a transfusion.

I know how terrible the system is, it's fvcked up how she wasn't even monitored and how they couldn't even do CPR for the baby. If I was to deliver in Nigeria, I would opt for a CS rather than a normal delivery. At least with a CS, the experts are present w/ you from the start. It's seems w/ normal delivery, they just leave you to your devices. Its sad.

I can see where he agreed to the surgery, but it doesn't seem like he was fully open to it. Why then was she made to deliver naturally? Whose decision was it truly? I know Nigerians have phobias around surgeries. Women that have CS are shamed for not doing like "the Hebrew women" and that's the part that annoys me.
Please it is not true that you are left on your own for vaginal deliveries and our system is not terrible. We may not have the best things to work with but some Medical personnel try their best and that's also a big part of why they excel abroad.

Please just get a good hospital, play your own part and pray.

I have had 2 wonderful vaginal deliveries in Nigeria, not from any expensive, big Hospital.

I used an average Hospital and I saw how myself and other pregnant women were treated well, my first delivery was barely 30,000 naira in 2019 and I was well taken care of, when the placenta wouldn't detach, an alarm was promptly raised and I got the necessary help even during the night.

Don't let all of these scare you, even primary health centres attend well to people and in less than 6 hours you are on your way home if no complication and adequate referral if need be.

Let me clarify something for you first.

CGFNS that verifies Nigerian nurses' license, educational background, etc for USA state nursing boards have waived license verification for Nigerian nurses wishing to practice in the US as a result of the issue of stoppage of verification of Nigerian Nurses licenses by the Nigerian Nursing Council.

As a Nigerian Nurse wishing to practice in the US, you must pass Nclex-rn exam and before you can qualify to write the Nclex-rn exam, you must verify your Nigerian nursing license, educational qualification and work experience via cgfns, but since Nigerian Nursing Council under the instruction of the President of Nigeria has stopped verifying Nigerian Nurses license for foreign bodies as a way of stopping Nigerian nurses from migrating abroad to work, US State Nursing Boards decided to waive the part for Nursing license verification for Nigerian registered nurses.

But this does not mean that you wont write Nclex-rn exam again, you will still need to write and pass it before you can practice as a foreign nurse in the US.

They only waived the part where you need Nigerian Nursing Council to verify for them that you are a registered nurse in Nigeria, but you will still do the other verification parts like: verifying your nursing education in Nigeria via sending your transcript, verifying your work experience as a nurse in Nigeria too.

What they waived is the part for verification of nursing license from Nigerian Nursing Board only

Thank you very much. I have had patients refused Cs on account of transverse lie and placenta previa and been jw. The man would never have agreed to Cs expecially when the wife had a previous viginal delivery. Some people are already shouting the hospital is at fault when they haven't even heard from the hospitals side. The fact that the man stylishly agreed in his write up that he rejected surgery already shows his person.
Their believe is the main reason for the woman death simple. Cos it already altered the standard medical practise.

I know what killed both the mother and child because in 2021 I was also a victim of this kind of incident, but I was lucky only the baby died, at one hospital here in Benin City, Edo state.

The reasons are as follows:
1. Never induce labour due to ruptured membrane, because after the ruptured membrane the baby will adapt to the new environment inside the mother's womb, and original labour will come on its own in 2 to 3 days
after the outflow of water from the mother.

2. Avoid overly large babies by shunning any thing cold drink even if it is cold water, and also avoid sweet mouth (too much sugar).

3. Eat light food only, once you notice labour.

4. Always deliver at local birth attendants place, the rate of safe delivery from these traditional midwives are 99.9 percent over herein Benin City Edo state. Their services are amazing.

If the above listed items were followed, then the delivery would have been successful.
Which guideline is this , or this is based on hour opinion. I stick with evidence based medical practice and guidelines.

Hmmmmmmmm

This is a sad story indeed

Well, as a doctor, I have these points to drop

1. As a JW, he has the full right to reject anything blood, but he can still perform surgeries on his wife and allow blood substitutes like tothema

2. The so-called Gynecologist/obstetrician made some errors. Pre-labour rupture of membranes in a multigravid without any obvious sign of contraction, with an estimated birth weight of 3.9kg is a very clear indication of CS until proven otherwise. I am not a gynae bit I have entered theatre many times so I know this.

3. Never mess with medical personnel. Some of them DO know their onions. This anaesthetist nurse knows the fulk BLS protocol of resuscitation.

4. It's so painful that this young man lost both mother and baby on the same day. R-jolad should really scrutinize the kind of medical practitioners they employ. The bereaved should take the matter to MDCN disciplinary committee for further action.

5. May God comfort the bereaved. Ọmọ this one hit home embarassed embarassed
You can't make your judgement based on one person's account. If you read very well , the patient rejected surgery and blood prior to this event. IN your honest opinion and experience do you think the option of surgery was offered just once... definitely No. The JW mans theoretical knowledge allowed him to stand firm on no surgery. Thinking his wife will pull through. Someone that went to the extent to get a power of attorney to prevent surgery or blood , only changed his mind when death was already inevitable. My only blame of the hospital is not sending this patient away when he rejected surgery. Yes , when I see patients that want to alter lay down proven guidelines on any forr of clinical management or intervention I send them away. They should try their luck somewhere else.

No, I disagree

The woman is multigravid, ruptured membrane over 12hrs ago, and has suspected macrosomia

A CS would have saved lives.

It was very clear the woman had uterine rupture, low BP with tachycardia were clear evidences of hypovolemic shock!!

May Nigeria never destroy us
What did you want the hospital to do when he refused Cs and even had provided a lasting power of attorney stating his disapproval for Cs. Tell me what the hospital should have done.

What ever caused the death of mother and child is clearly a case of medical negligence. The facility did not manage the case well. It is not the issue of rejection of blood or whatever!
Don say what you don't know. Have you heard the hospitals account. What killed the woman is ruptured uretus and hemorrhage. Cs would have avoided this but he refused, blood transfusion would have given her a chance to live but was also refused. Delivery is a complex procedure , no one can fully predict the eventual outcome but the life savers to reduced death were refused by the man.
