Contractual clauses are not nationalization. You don't nationalize what is not in your territory.

China didn't nationalize that airport. The take over is simply a contractual clause in dealing with the host nation that was too desperate and foolish to accept the inclusion of such clauses.

Accept your wrong and move on.

Appleyard just corrected you, you can't nationalize a company outside your territory, you keep using the word "nationalize" in the wrong context.

The transfer of a company (private) to the
Government (public) is the simplest definition.

In this context, if France did "nationalize" those mines as you've stated then it'll no longer be the property of Niger.

As regards the Chinese taking over projects in Uganda or other African countries, I believe those projects fall under the purview of the private sector.
I believe there are certain clauses that allows a foreign company to take over projects in the private sector of another country, I'm certain this is not the first time these things happen. I'm certain these countries have legal advisers, the question is, are there any discrepancies prior to the take over ? Certain conditions has to be meet before a take over could happen.

Today is the 80th anniversary of D-Day, also known as the Normandy landings.

On Tuesday, 6 June 1944, as the Germans made in roads during World World II, the Allied forces (those opposed to Germany and its supporters) carried out the largest seaborne invasion in history. This invasion began the liberation of France and paved the way for the defeat of Adolf Hitler.

There are many lessons form the Normandy landings including how building organizational structure that empowers people builds motivation as well as the importance of cultivating diverse teams and breaking down silos. I recommend Cornelius Ryan's 1959 book, The Longest Day, for some real life lessons from this extraordinary event.

One of the things I found most fascinating about that event is the person of General Dwight D. Eisenhower who later went on to be the President of the United States. Eisenhower was the commander of the Allied forces.

Weather conditions before June 6 were unsuitable and therefore victory was uncertain, but postponing the landings would not have been ideal either since it may give an edge to the German forces. So Eisenhower decided to go ahead.

To bolster the troops, he gave the famous speech in which he explained to them, "The eyes of the world are upon you."

Less known is an alternative speech Eisenhower wrote in case the invasion was repelled. In four short sentences, it went,

"Our landings in the Cherbourg-Havre area have failed to gain a satisfactory foothold and I have withdrawn the troops. My decision to attack at this time and place was based upon the best information available. The troops, the air, and the Navy did all that Bravery and devotion to duty could do. If any blame or fault attaches to the attempt it is mine alone."
