Officials in the know of the matter reported that Edun submitted a proposal of N105,000 to the president as the new minimum wage. The Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, on Thursday submitted the estimated cost implications of implementing a new national minimum wage to President Bola Tinubu. labour is asking for a wage of N494,000, the government said it would pay N60,000. However, following the declaration of an indefinite nationwide strike – which commenced on Monday and was relaxed for one week – the government committed to pay above N60,000. The Trade Union Congress President, Comrade Festus Osifo, noted that there was no new development or offer from the government. “The government is yet to present anything to us. What we have been discussing are principles but no new template yet,” he said. When quipped on if there was an offer beyond N60,000, he stated that such an offer was not on the table “The government is yet to present any new offer to us; we are only hoping that by the time we come back tomorrow, something concrete will be available,” he said. “They are only talking about principles and what is needed to work but nothing new yet on the minimum wage.” Follow the Sahara Reporters channel on WhatsApp: |

Oh well I think it's okay for now. NLC should demand for another increase as inflation increases subsequently. Public officers have the right to demand for pay increase |

To me 105 is okay. What most people don't understand is that minimum wage doesn't mean a worker will earn 100k. It means no worker is expected to earn less than 100k as his basic salary. So workers salary will calculated using 105k as the base line. By the time other fringe benefits enters like housing, entertainment, transportation etc, the money will be way above 100k |

The government will simply remove the "assistance" It's rendering to subsidize petrol and use it to pay salary. That is the plan. |

Stupid proposal. Massive inflation loading as sellers will also increase the prices of their goods and those working in the private sector will beat the brunt. |

Mass layoffs to follow. One person will end up doing the work of four people. And if there are no layoffs, the system will definitely feel the shocks of inflation. Too much money chasing few goods. Money issa scam and illusion las las. Chasing more of it only to pay a silent tax via inflation and dwindling purchasing power. |
