Wale Edun Has Not Proposed N105,000 As Minimum Wage — Bayo Onanuga by Bobloco(op): 6:10pm On Jun 06, 2024
The Presidency has debunked the report making the rounds that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has proposed N105,000 as new minimum wage.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, while reacting to a report claiming that the Minister has submitted a report with N105,000 as new minimum wage proposal, described the news as false.

“The Honorable Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun has not proposed N105,000 minimum wage. The contrary story being disseminated is false,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tribune Online reports on Thursday that the Minister of Finance, following the earlier directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, presented a template with cost implications of a new minimum wage to President Tinubu

Recall that following a two-day strike by organised labour over a quest for an increase in minimum wage, the President had ordered Wale Edun to, within 48 hours, present the cost implications of a new minimum wage.

Well, to the labour union, anything less than 150k is a failed bargain! They just increased the salary of judges for the hatchet job they did for them.

The 105,000 is supposed to be the last offer of the government but now that the NLC has seen it, they will simply ask for more.

The Government wanted to keep their cards close their chest but it got leaked out.

It sounds unbelievable that a government still hassling around #60000 a few days back will turn around to propose #105 000.

Re: Wale Edun Has Not Proposed N105,000 As Minimum Wage — Bayo Onanuga by EponObi(f):
Of course, no one is going to offer #105k as minimum. The FG can't even afford that talk more of the state governments.

The story was either planted by the government or the NLC to measure people's reaction or setup the FG.

Anyways, whatever the new minimum wage is going to be, the FG should open the border with Benin Republic immediately after approval so we can import food to counterbalance the impeding inflation surge.

I doubt we will get out of this wood this year. Any chance of improvement to the economy will happen in 2025 earliest.

Can the government agree to over 100k as living wage? No.
Should the civil servants agree to living wage bellow 100k? No.

This means, more strikes to be struck.
The win goes to the civil servants.

Tinubu, a bad man with good intentions.
