Edo State has already set the pace.

Kudos to Edo State

Tinubu is still busy haggling over the minimum wage, like market women haggling over the price of crayfish.
You dei stay Edo state?
How many people you see wen dem pay 70k
Obaseki did what he did for election purpose.

Okay.

On another note, how do you think the minimum wage will be enforced in the private sector?
Once the minimum wage bill is signed by the president, it becomes a law that must be implemented by all employer of Labour. Of course some employers won’t pay so it’s left for Labour unions to force them to pay. Any employer that refuses to pay can be charged to the National Industrial Court.

Re: Wage: Governors Won’t Pay Above ₦‎70,000 - NGF by snapshot: 11:42am On Jun 07, 2024
Oil producing states can pay 300k
They should not say they can't pay above 70k
Meanwhile why is NLC in a hurry to call off strike.
Shut down everything
And put their brains on reset

Ask yourself what was the minimum wage when 50kg bag of Rice was 8k?

Labour Unions shouldn't accept any amount less than 150k as minimum wage with the economic realities on ground.

• The FG and the sub-national government should set their priorities right.

• They should cut the cost of governance across board and block all the many loopholes for corruption in the system.

• They should address the issue of multiple taxation on businesses and make the business environment more conducive by addressing the pain points of many business concerns.

• The FG should look seriously at the possibility of adjusting the national revenue sharing formula in favour of the Sub-national government.

• 150k should be the irreducible minimum wage going by the economic realities on ground for any right thinking government.

Labour Unions, if it would take another indefinite strike at the end of the 5 day window you gave the government, it's in order. 150k should remain the irreducible minimum from your team.
It would lead to massive inflation

With time the price things will come down, what now happens to the excess cash?

Sincerely with you that 70k minimum wage proposed by the Nigeria governor’s forum is unjustifiable and unrealistic. It will never stand neither will it come to pass. NLC will continue their long length strike and the advice for Fg is to ascend to Labour unions demands. 100k upward is justifiable here. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. We will all see the end of the negotiation. NGF will pay more, they just want reactions from the public and Labour unions too.

There can't be a law mandating anyone to do what he/she cannot physically do.

State civil services are over bloated and governors struggle to pay 30,000. Abia state can't even pay the 30,000 yet you want to make it 85,000.

When you make this law, I hope you will be ready for the drama that will follow when the governors decide to downsize the civil service
Civil servants in the state may be sack & what of those that retired yearly

Minimum wage under jonathan, #18000
Bag of rice under jonathan, #7000

Minimum wage under tinubu, #30000
Bag of rice under tinubu, #85000

Lets do the maths
Since bag of rice is constant, #7000 under jonathan is equivalent to #85000 under tinubu

To determine the value of jonathans minimum wage in tinubus era gives

18000/7000= 2.57143
Recall that every #7000 under jonathan is equivalent to #85000 under tinubu

: . 2.57143 x 85000 = #218,571

So nairalanders
If jonathan of PDP were in charge of nigeria today minimum wage will have been equivalent of #218,571

Labour should endeavour to peg their negotiation to #250000, to accomodate tinubus APC induced inflation
FIXED

TINUBUU vs JONATHAN challenge;
If clueless jonathan can pay it, then technocrat tinubu can pay it.

True. On paper.
But the issue is most private employees are too afraid of job loss to even report ridiculous payments. Not to talk of the fact that it is difficult to get a lawyer when you can barely feed.

Why wouldn't they pay 100k, when the allocation they are collecting now is almost three times what they use to collect during the past administration of Buhari. They must pay o
If they pay the workers what they deserve, then there wouldn't be enough left to embezzle.

We can have a two wage system. The minimum wage can be agreed to be 70k while Labour can agree a minimum of N100k with FG. State and private sector can pay 70k while FG pays 100k.
Hmmm!!!! Belle de sweet someone oooooo. Emile O'corn done show am shege. See excitement. But you disappoint me o, Kadoso. With your education as an "accountant" with "auditing" experience, you have joined the band wagon of others to think that wage increase will solve the problems of people in Nigeria. Come on, now. You're better than this Mutairu.

Soon, push gon come to shove but until then, let keep enjoying the game of musical chairs fully backed and sponsored by the governments.

And again, the so called governors, ministers, senators, vice president and the president should also make do with whatever nonsense comes their ways before the tradition goes south.

Edo election is coming now Obaseki was the first to pay 70k even when labour and federal government were still negotiating this is a political strategy to win peoples heart.

Why tackle the guy for his comments? He simply used it as a yardstick and every sane and educated Nigerian can agree with his point of view.

A bag of rice isn't even the only thing that has gotten expensive; general cost of living has tripled in the last 1 year!
I agree with you to every length but I disagree with who has not even bought a bag of rice before in his life come online and be shouting as if some people are not still buying it as costly as it is.

Even if he isn't buying a 50kg bag of rice, it has affected the price of 1 derica, which is now between 1200-1500.

There are 64 dericas in one bag, which means the average household consumes about 50kg of rice within 2 months and 25kg within a month, assuming they eat 1 derica daily.

Be careful the way you tackle people when they talk about something that affects everyone so that people won't curse you.

Oga you are still wrong with your postulation here, half bag of rice will last my family and I for about 6 months so if I’m not an average Nigerian because I don’t eat a bag in 2 months then what am I?.besides that mentality that someone will curse another,if you go by that maybe you will be a mad man by now cos I’m not very sure that someone sometime has never told you that you are mad.

Half bag will last you and your family for 6 months? Even if you consume 2 dericas a week, that's 52 dericas in 6 months, almost 1 bag. You don't even have a clue...

Seems you're still being fed by your parents... Cos no man who pays for food items would write what you wrote.

Anyways, I won't engage you further cos you've just proven you have no idea what you're talking about.
