by reading through comments on the thread,you can now hear even adults admitting to be choked while eating meat or something like that.l'm sure you have had similar experience,where food enters the wrong food pipe and you kind of started choking on it

I took a little rice in a spoon and swallowed. My wind pipe didn't close very well and I started choking. Na adulthood save me cos I forced the rice seeds out.

Some years back I was choked by a big meat and was gasping for breath during a lunch at the canteen, I thought I am going to die that moment but thank God for the canteen woman that slipped her hand into my throat. It's a day I will never forget in my life. I had to be sent to the company hospital for medical evaluation as my colleagues who witnessed the incident inform my departmental head who thought I might have had an underlying illness. But when the result came out, I was given a clean bill of health, if not I would have been sacked then. It's possible one can be choked to death

I was dying, nobody know what was happening to me they thought its just bone but I was choking to death, I couldn't not talk nor breathe, water was ruñning from my eyes n I nearly died.. They were just giving solid food to eat while big solid meat was choking me but they had no idea..

Your comment here is a total display of crude ignorance.

A child is choking and the first thing you'll do is to give water to the choking child. Are you trying to kill the child faster than the object that choked the child.
Don't you know that at that time, the water can enter the wrong place and cause more danger?

Secondly, that you've not heard of a child that died of choking from a piece of meat does not mean that it has never happened. There have been reports about that. So many schools have banned parents from adding meat to the meals of certain age of pupils which they'll eat in the school. They will prefer egg which have to be cut into smaller sizes.

Finally, asking is this the first time a 4yr old boy is eating meat... is another sign of someone not reasoning rationally.
Some professionals have even died in the course of doing what they know very well. So we should ask why they should die after all it is work they know very well.

That's not choking. In choking, the foreign body lodges in the airway. Vomiting it means It was in the esophagus, probably too big to go down

Drinking water or anything else while choking can worsen the situation.

There are two types of choking: partial and total. Partial choking is when the person can still cough and talk, meaning they can still breathe. Total choking is when the person can't breathe at all.

If it's partial choking, calm the person down and encourage them to cough, as that's the most effective way to dislodge the blockage. If the person can't cough, lean them forward and slap their back between the shoulder blades. Do not slap their back while they're standing straight, as this can cause the object to fall deeper into the airway. Stop slapping once they start coughing.

If it's total choking and the person can't breathe, cough, or talk, you should perform the Heimlich maneuver. This applies pressure on the lungs and forces the air in the lungs to push out the obstructing object. I've included a video tutorial of the Heimlich maneuver below 👇🏾

When you see someone choking, you do a Heimlich manoeuvre IMMEDIATELY.

It's basic first aid that everyone should know.

Actually, water can do nothing when one is choking on solid food like meat. Choking means food going into one’s airways (the pipe leading to the lungs) instead of ‘foodway’ (the pipe leading to the stomach I.e esophagus)
Water can only work if one is choking on pepper or liquid substances. The best way to get it out is by the heimlich method where you put one of your hands around the baby’s neck while making him lie flat on his stomach on your hand then you use your other hand to hit the middle part of his back. Water wouldn’t do anything here because where the meat was isn’t where water passes.

I once had a terrible moment of asphyxiation caused by a hanging piece of tough meat right in my throat! The piece of meat hung by a tough thread/chewed tendon that had got caught in my teeth! The piece of meat was held in place in my throat like a suspended hook; I was choking and struggling to cough up the meat or unhook the piece in my teeth. Tears were streaming down my face, and I couldn't utter a single word of help as I fought to breathe.

That unprecedented ordeal lasted just a few seconds during a meal, but it felt like hell getting that chunk of meat out of my throat!

That little angel must have suffered a great deal before passing away in such a terrible way! My heartfelt condolences to the family and the school.
