■ So many governors are not even paying the 30,000 including Alex Otti of Abia, how will they be able to pay 70k, do you think it's Tinubu fault Alex insist on paying 18k? Maybe Tinubu should first impeach all governors paying 18k For your info, each states decide what they pay their governor, the fact you believe the president has power to review allowances and salaries of governors shows how naive and uninformed you are But don't you really think any governor paying 18k right now should be assassinated
If a state/company is not viable and hence not able to pay salaries, then it should be scrapped — merged back from the state it came from. The power to do that at least comes from the federal, does it not? These states that exist merely as unnecessary bloats to the system were created at the federal level, not at the state level, where they not? undecided

So what range is governor's salary?
Cmanforall:
They should say 'allowances '. I don't think any governor gets more than 1million naira as monthly 'salary '
Re: Minimum Wage: Cut Your Salaries To Pay Us - Civil Servants To Governors by Love800(m): 6:33pm On Jun 09, 2024
How will it lead to increase in price of commodities?
Mightypenlord:
The important thing for the government at all levels to take care of is the price controls and regulations, as an increase in minimum wages will cause an increase in price of commodities. Minimum wages will not extend to non government workers but price controls and regulations will be beneficial to all I suggested and stand to be corrected

Our Governors are shamelessly irresponsible. They live luxuriously large and careless about the masses.

What do you mean by the bolded?
correctguy101:
Ehen!!!

The argument don dey go where we expect am to go.

Governors and those in NASS should reduce their excesses to offset the difference.

My own is, even if I agree that 30k is too poor, and something should be done, they should jhus be very careful with the amount they're requesting in case it negatively affects the majority who don't depend on minimum wage.

Na Naija we dey, una sef know how these things dey end las las...

Those allowances are take homes, yes or no? They are computed as part and parcel of a governor's pay/take home, etc., right? undecided

That's why I said the workers should demand they use their allowances to pay them, because some of those allowances and security votes exceed their salaries.
I think in the past, some governors claimed they won't use their salaries, that it'll go to some projects or something

It does not, not even by a little
It comes fully from the national assembly, states are established by law and no president got nothing on them

The only way forward is for the senators representing those non viable states is to raise the motion that there states be dissolved (no senator will ever try this by the way)

Senators from Osun will raise motion that Osun be scrapped same as senator from Abia, but those senator will be treated as bastard by their people

Right now they are even proposing more states be created

This is what I expected labour to demand for. Let them cut their excessive allowances and see if money will not be available to pay workers.
Crooks in government.

Its just a paranoid speculation. You know many things scarcely happen without ripple effects, especially in Nigeria where just rain can increase the prices of fare on the roads of Lagos...

I see what you are trying to say there but I don't believe there is anything in the constitution that specifically states that the idea cannot come from the Federal level. Yes, agreement would have to be reached on whether the two states would agree to it but the idea itself can come from anywhere including the federal. undecided
Re: Minimum Wage: Cut Your Salaries To Pay Us - Civil Servants To Governors by Basicend: 8:09pm On Jun 09, 2024
Truth is , cutting salaries of executive and legislature arms will not be enough to pay the demanded minimum wage. .

Labour leaders are very delusional.

No sane Nigerian worker should ask for 62 k
In this tinubulation any less than 150k should be rejected

Idea coming from federal level will be completely useless if the house rejects it, it won't see light of the day and in a tribalism divided nation like Nigeria it will cause more trouble

Imagine Tinubu suggesting Abia state be scrapped or Adamawa/Osun be scrapped

First Obedient will come for him heavily, people in Osun will look for ways to crucify him and Adamawa people will claim it's hate against their tribe

The president is not as powerful as you think, you can ask Jonathan how far when he tried changing UNILAG to Maulag, president only seems powerful when they bypass separation of power and pocket the legislators

Alex Otti will easily get away with saying Abia state should be scrapped but a Tinubu will enter a very deep hot soup for even thinking of it

All of that is still not enough of a reason why the idea cannot come even from the Federal. There are states in every region that have proven not viable. I don't see how a call for the merging of non-viable states in every region constitutes tribalism. lipsrsealed

Interesting. I never knew that. So, Lagos or Nasarawa state get to decide what its state governor earns per month?

It's president fault , if he has the power to remove fuel subsidy and float naira, then he has the power to tell governors to pay and he has the power to review and reduce their salaries and allowances
The president doesn't have the power to do so. Even to pay minimum wage as the federal government, the president cannot do so.

I am hearing surprised hearing this from you, saying in a democratic situation that FG can scrap a state government which was created by the laws and constitution of a country. I thought you were more intelligent than that. Maybe you are just being sarcastic.
