They had cornered it before the war. See ikwerre land was already occupied before the war. All they needed then to own any land they desired in Ikwerre land was to travel to Enugu. A document would be issued to that effect Viola! The land belongs to the Igbo person and it didn't matter if crops were on the land. The Igbo person would just walk up to you and serve you papers to quit.

A lot of blood shed by the military... You see some of them in their old age suffering terrible conditions because the government they fought for never truly cared about them.
