larger in square meters with only 8 lga.
Lol, Bayelsa is actually the smallest state in Nigeria, even smaller than Lagos. More than half of their land is unlivable swamps and heavily polluted brackish waters. The only decent houses you will find there are government buildings, politician houses, a few small hotels and oil company quarters. The poverty level is almost on the same level with Northern Nigeria.

There is a reason why the areas are among the most sparsely populated areas in Nigeria.

It is doomed forever. There's no logical reason for someone to live in or do business there other than being a native. They land is low value and infertile, weather is bad, worst pollution in w/Africa, high poverty, high illiteracy, kidnapping, etc
I'm sure all you wrote is what you read from Google like Gringory.

Don't mind them. From my observation so far across various social media platforms, most Nigerian youths reason so illogically and stoopidly. If not for this recent japa, most wouldn't have used their eyes to witness functioning societies and how they operate. With the presence and spread of the Internet, one would have thought that most of our young folks would use it to read about cities in different parts of the world and ask themselves hard questions:

- How did these people build this stuff?
- How is it maintained?
- What was the process involved?

When I was young, I watched "Megafactories" on National Geographic, browsed "Howstuffworks" and read about various cities and their infrastructures. I recalled being mesmerised by Hong Kong's skyscrapers and wondering, how do they maintain these buildings? I fell in love with civil engineering. While very young, I questioned roads without pedestrian walkways which are fully covered. In fact, I consider a road well constructed when there are appropriate markings and covered gutters. Passersby aren't supposed to see what is inside.

The truth be say. there is a very odd way in which the average Nigerian reasons/thinks: brash, illogical, braggadocio, loud and dogmatic. Nigerians in general hate fact-based debates. They prefer "I no fit lie give you" and "dem tell me say".
You are very correct. I know most Nigerians don't like reading so they happily wallow in ignorance. But even while watching movies, ones is forced to wonder how these guys in the west and Asia did these miracles. How they are able to maintain big cities and keep it extremely clean and maintain infrastructure and systems that works for all not just for politicians.

We still live and talk like cave men... Chasing tribal superiority, ignorant pomposity, vaịn royalty and political power which never translate to development and progress of the nation or any tribe.

When will they realize that no one is a winner here, we are all losing together and soon there will be nothing left for anyone here.

And you are saying this. Omo u nor try. I use to think Warri was bad and delta was under developed until I traveled out of the state. Omo, delta state remains one of the best in Nigeria. From Pti road, down to airport road to edjeba road just to mention a few places, that state is blessed. A city that has clean water, good roads, viable business environment and where drilling of borehole cost as low as 45k. Abeg never repeat that “Warri is dilapidated” statement again o.

Every thing na hate to some of una. Which eastern state is larger than Bayelsa? None. Eastern states are just lucky to have more productive residents and better leadership than Bayelsa.

This is Oyo state on the map...more than 90% of it is uninhabited.

Ibadan is just endless clusters of brown roof houses built in the 80s, the few developed places in Ibadan isn't even upto 5% of the entire city.

Airport is one of the attributes of a developed city/state...I haven't seen any city in the world without a standard airport, Ibadan airport is an eyesore
I rest my case with you. I can hear and see the tune of bittered soul.
Bayelsa is bigger than entire south west. Are you happy now. Continue living in dillusion

If the Netherlands and Singapore can build new regions/cities on reclaimed lands, Bayesla can do it. The problem is the mentality, economic growth and political will.

Hong Kong and Kansai Airports are built on reclaimed lands. In fact, as I write, the new site for the WORLD EXPO 2025 is built on a newly created island in Japan. Singapore is building a new business district on reclaimed land. Dubai is a world leader in building cities and zones on sand-filled lands. Does it mean the Dutch, Japanese, Chinese and Emiratis have two or three heads compared to our people?
This is the issue I have with Nigerians. The need to compare yourselves with USA, Canada, UK and in this case, The Netherlands and Singapore. What in the name of God makes you believe you are eligible for such comparison.

In 2024, we are yet to sort out the issues with electricity, fuel.supply, food security, access to healthcare, quality schooling, drinkable water. You haven't gotten the basics, yet you want to compare. People have not eaten and you want to carry massive reclamation. Ordinary 60k minimum wage, state governments are crying.

Sort our hunger first in Nigeria and then wa can have the conversation.

If you have N20M and you need to buy land and build a house, would you buy a flat build able land or you buy a wayerlogged land where you can sandfill? grin

The rest urban settlement is a glorified village ravaged by brown roofs

Bayelsa is so big and I never realised this, why does Bayelsa not have a Sea Port?

This is so unbelievable, there are so many things about Nigeria that I am ignorant of. Sincerely if the British comes to take over Nigeria for just 10 years, Nigeria will transform totally.

The issue with Bayelsa, nay Ijaw areas in the Niger Delta is the absence of proper habitable land. The terrain is mostly swamps and mangroves which without intensive capital expenditure will be largely uninhabitable. For example, take the East West Road, see the sections that passes through Ikwerreland, Ogoni land, Akwa Ibom etc and check the section that pass through bayelsa. The Bayelsa section is deplorable due to terrain.

Almost everywhere in Ijawland need serious sandfilling, which is capital intensive before reasonable work can be carried out. So don't expect serious development there.

Use Google map and zoom into Bayelsa and Ijaw parts of Rivers state and see how scanty there villages are. No amount of online revisionism can change what they are. It has never been about the size of bayelsa but the liveability.
This is very informative, but at the same time I think there should be a big Sea Port in Bayelsa. People should not have any business coming to Lagos for any reasons at all.

Considering how tiny this state is and the amount that comes in in federal allocation, Yenagoa should be finer than this.
Aswear, bayelsa should be a beehive of construction and development. It should be a mini paradise, but alas! Our thieves in position of leadership will not let it be.

No state capital in the east that can match Ibadan in term of general development in Nigeria.. choose your best capital city in the east and compare what they have with ibadan... from hospital, university, companies, research institute, mall, radio stations , sports and recreations, government organisationss etc

Are you based in warri at all? Warri developed? Maybe you have not travelled to better climes and location. Warri is underdeveloped. Warri, Effurun, okpe are all underdeveloped considering the inflow from FG and IGR. You never really see developed lands or you just dey support paymasters. So you dug borehole for 45k is development? The water table in parts of warri is high. When my septic tank was being dug, water came out and we couldn't dig it to the recommended depth. I once dug a hole for cloth line with a cutlass and water came out! Sapeleboy is correct. The amount of money coming into delta state is not commensurate to the progress being seen. That's the basic fact
