Anambra Young Women Rice Farmers Extol Minister After Inspecting Farmlands by okeychris(op):
Hectares of land in Omor, Ayamelum LGA of Anambra State; where some farmers cultivated rice seedlings provided for them by the Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister Mrs Uju-Kennedy Ohanenye, has been inspected.
After the rice seedlings were distributed to the farmers in January, there was also rice cultivation technical training given to them by the Ministry of Women Affairs in collaboration with CGC Nigeria Limited, and Green Agriculture West Africa Ltd, GAWAL.
During the distribution of the seedlings witnessed by the Traditional ruler of Ndiukwuenu, Igwe Onyeka Onwurah, the farmers were told that the gesture would help them to be meaningfully engaged for the eight years President Bola Tinubu would be on seat.
Speaking during the farm inspection visit, some of the beneficiaries through their representatives, including Mrs Christiana Okafor; from Igbakwu, Mrs Augustina Odenigbo; from Omasi, and Mrs Theresa Ojindu; from Ifite-Ogwari, thanked the Women Affairs Minister for helping them in subsistence and commercial rice farming, thereby helping to mitigate hunger by ensuring surplus.
Others, including Mrs Christiana Egwuatu; from Omor, and Mrs Veronica Emengini; from Umueje, also joined in thanking the Minister for her kind gesture.
The farmers under the name; “Anambra Young Women Rice Farmers” also appealed to their benefactor to still assist them with fertilizer, chemicals for pest and weed control, as well as seed money to hire labourers, saying that rice needs “maintenance” for good yield.
Earlier, the Facilitator of the programme, Barrister Mike Ikegbunam, appealed to the Minister to help prevail on relevant authorities to revamping the “moribund” Lower Anambra Irrigation Project, Anambra-Imo River Basin Development Authority at Omor to encourage all-season rice farming, thereby helping to ensure food sufficiency and other chain of benefits.
He said that about eight hundred farmers across eight communities in Anambra State benefited in the pilot phase of the programme the Minister fashioned out in order to positively touch lives of women in agriculture, adding that more people are expected to benefit from the Minister’s largesse, just as he disclosed that cassava and other items will be added in the programme.
Barrister Ikegbunam re-emphasized the need for support to mechanize the farmers’ operations and increase productivity, and encouraged the state government to partner with the Minister for more impact.
He prayed God to continue blessing the Minister, and cause her detractors to have a rethink and allow her continue practicalizing the President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

We are Igbo and we are hardworking!

I laugh in Swahili when Northerners say we depend on them for food.

Oga we have been existing before cars and Nigeria was created... What makes you think we won't find alternative source for cow meat and Onion or beans?

Igbos have enough landmass and fertile land to grow their own food.

That some people in southern state cultivate some crop which is not sufficient for total consumption, still mean we all still depend on northerners for foodstuff to buy and feed with. You are just ranting. You people don't farm one quarter of food you consumed. what is the alternative to beans and onion

Name the food we depend on from North
Note middle belt is not North

Goats, cows, beans are most important from Niger Republic reason they are not expensive since they close their border

Yam is from moble belt and South East

Vegetables are from midle belt or South East

Melon is from middle belt

Rice is imported or locally farmed

Garri locally farmed mostly few imports from middle belt

Basically North supply to South East is mostly onions and tomatoes

Necessity is the mother of all inventions.

If North decide to stop sending their food products to us then it will create a new market this side.

People will start farming and rearing animals here.

Only difference is it might be more expensive

But it can be done and it's not rocket science.

If they stop trucks from moving into SE from other zones for one week now, famiñe will hit SE and 1 cup of rice will sell for over 100k.

That part is left for u to find out.
When trucks were stopped from moving to SE decades ago, millions died of famine, it will be worse today if it's done for 1 week.
