But still yet when the British left they agreed that it was not appropriate for him to be ruling over a Yoruba Majority Town and there needed to be a Referendum for all of Kwara because apart from Ilorin most parts of Kwara including Jebba were not under the Emir and wanted to rejoin the Western Region
It was Azikiwe and Balewa Govt that refused to carry out the Kwara referendum because they knew that the Kwara people were determined to join the West and Bakewa and Zik Govt wanted to weaken Awolowo'
