In the first place our prisons are nothing to write home about and need serious renovation.

So what's the correlation with how it improve Nigeria's current predicament?

This guy is just clueless.
I don't usually make any comments on him because he's not worth it but for the first time, I here to say I've not seen a very stupid person as him before! His stupidity is quite unique.

So which job can a criminal do, that a law-abiding citizen can not do?
So Govt should sack construction workers & employ criminals for free?
Re: Hardship: Stop Spending Money On Prisoners - Reno Omokri Tells FG by Nobody: 2:31pm On Jun 14, 2024
The govt is not spending but looting billions earmarked for prisoners

Omokri is talking of using prisoners to generate revenues. If such productive opportunities are available in Nigeria, law-abiding citizens should 1st be considered & not criminals.
If it is such a wonderful idea, what's stopping Govt from implementing it?
The government prefers to pilfer the billions allocated to the prisons.

&you think law-abiding Nigerians should not be given preference over criminals, for such opportunities to make money.
Did anyone stop anybody from Site and labourer activities in Nigeria?

It's kind of jobs so many people are not willing or ready to do. Even in the face of hunger, so many people will prefer begging around than to carry blocks at Construction sites.

His fore father's were dealing in slaves (selling their own kind to white men), you can imagine the wickedness they had melt on those slaves just because they want them to remain in chains both physically and mentally.

Unfortunately, if we re to relive history Reno would the same again without fear and remorse. He failed to categorised the prisoners.

The proposal of making prisoners work to sustain themselves and contribute to public infrastructure is certainly provocative and raises several important considerations. Here's a more nuanced analysis:

Economic Efficiency and Productivity

Self-Sufficiency:
Making prisons more self-sufficient through agricultural and infrastructure work could potentially reduce the financial burden on the government.

Public Projects:
Involving prisoners in public works like road construction could indeed save costs on labor and provide valuable infrastructure development.

Ethical and Human Rights Considerations

Labor Rights:
Compulsory labor, especially without proper compensation, can be seen as a violation of human rights. International conventions and many national laws protect against forced labor.

Rehabilitation:
The primary goal of the prison system should be rehabilitation and reintegration into society. Labor that contributes to skill-building and offers fair compensation can be beneficial, but it must be balanced with ethical considerations.

Legal and Social Implications

Legal Framework:
Implementing such a system would require significant changes to existing laws and regulations governing prisoner rights and labor laws.

Social Justice:
The notion of using prisoners, including "big men and powerful politicians," for labor could be seen as a form of justice. However, it must be implemented fairly and not disproportionately affect marginalized groups.

Practical Considerations

Supervision and Security:
Ensuring that prisoners can safely and effectively work on farms or public projects would require substantial oversight and security measures.

Quality and Efficiency:
The quality of work done by untrained laborers might not meet the standards required for public infrastructure projects. Training and supervision would be essential.

Psychological and Social Impact

Dignity and Motivation:
Forced labor can strip individuals of their dignity and motivation. Rehabilitation programs that include voluntary work, education, and skill-building tend to be more successful in reducing recidivism.

Public Perception:
While some might support the idea of prisoners working to support themselves, others might see it as exploitative or inhumane, potentially leading to public backlash.

Balanced Approach

Voluntary Work Programs:
Instead of compulsory labor, offering voluntary work programs with fair compensation and skill development opportunities can provide a balance between reducing costs and respecting human rights.

Public-Private Partnerships:
Collaborating with private enterprises to create work opportunities for prisoners can ensure that they gain valuable skills while contributing economically.

Transparency and Oversight:
Any program involving prisoner labor must be transparent and subject to rigorous oversight to prevent abuse and ensure fair treatment.

In conclusion, while the idea of making prisons more self-sufficient and involving prisoners in public works has potential economic benefits, it must be approached with careful consideration of ethical, legal, and social implications. A balanced, rights-respecting approach focused on rehabilitation and skill-building is likely to be more effective and humane.

What he said is nonsense in an insecured environment like Nigeria. Did you read the line where he canvassed of inmates doing construction work. The question is, who will provide them security? With the attendant jailbreaks in the country, is there a brainer that inmates would be left to go and do construction work meaning 90% of them would not return because they would have wheeled away by enemies of the nation. Now is it another expenses for government to provide security for them on the cause of doing construction work. That his advise is possible in a fairly secured nation and not the like of Nigeria.

What he canvassed is meaningless and careless. Such can only work in a secured nation, where their security architecture is fairly good and secured. Inmates have not gone for construction work and there are attendant jailbreaks in many prisons all over the nation. Reno is just playing on the sensibility of many of you that cannot think very well, as you are fed you take it hook line and sinker. You people should learn how to read in-between the lines and stop being zombie.

You have over 50 million free Nigerians who are unemployed but you prefer to give the few available jobs to prisoners. You are only creating more criminals.

They will definitely be useful in farming and construction companies as labourers.

Instead of wasting away in sell.

The pile up in the prison is even an eyesore.
When you employ them in farming and construction, what happened to the people who's jobs they are taking away? Do they also need to commit crimes to get back their jobs?
Re: Hardship: Stop Spending Money On Prisoners - Reno Omokri Tells FG by tctrills: 7:37am On Jun 15, 2024

Reno really made a sense here. Do u know there are some prisoners that prefer to remain in prison for life than getting freedom because of free food. I have seen someone that continue to commit crimes so that he can go back to prison. If this can be introduced, rate of crimes will reduce gradually.
Oga, it would only explode the rate of crime. You want to take away the few available jobs and give them to prisoners. What do you expect the people you took their jobs away to do?
Re: Hardship: Stop Spending Money On Prisoners - Reno Omokri Tells FG by tctrills: 7:40am On Jun 15, 2024
Olaide1295:
I totally agree with this. Prisoners should not get free food. They should work in exchange for their food and accommodation. If they work harder, the rest of the money should be kept in bank for them to help them integrate well into the society after they are released.

There are roads to be built, foods need to be grown, mines to be mined, cities to be cleaned, trees to be planted etc. There is a lot of work to be done to improve our society.
You already have millions of unemployed people out there. If prisoners take up all the jobs, you are only encouraging more crime.
Re: Hardship: Stop Spending Money On Prisoners - Reno Omokri Tells FG by MomohMrMoore: 7:47am On Jun 15, 2024
Thats what they tell you if billions allocated to prison service but its a lie: it end up in the politicians and civil servant- perm secs, directors pockets. Its a means of siphoning money.
What you are proposing is what they already do. I have visited a prison in Kogi state; they work on the farmlands. The priceeds also go to the corrupt civil servants heads. Corruption is the only problem of the country; nothing else. The only thing still keeping this country together is the oil.

You just need to learn how to reason and employ critical thinking.

The food shortage and food inflation crisis we are facing today in Nigeria is largely due to shortage of farm produce.

Now if we have means as a Nation to bring more hands into farming, it will help us to increase our production and have good food security.

Meanwhile all these didn't stop those who are already into farming in relation to the question you asked. Did land finish or farm land been exhausted?

Nigeria is having so many land size that are yet to be put to use and wasting away. If we use our resources very well, we don't have to be in food crisis. Please think.
