Meet Tope Awotona, richest Nigerian and immigrant in the US

Kelvin Okojie - January 17, 2024

Tope Awotona has been named by Forbes as the richest immigrant and Nigerian American residing in the United States.

The 42-year-old, born in Lagos, Nigeria, and relocated to the US during his teenage years, holds a net worth of $1.2 billion.

Awotona is the founder and CEO of Calendly, a scheduling software company.

Forbes notes that he initiated Calendly in response to his own frustration with the time-consuming back-and-forth emails needed for meeting scheduling, having previously worked as a salesman for tech firms like EMC (now Dell EMC).

Having self-funded Calendly for an extended period, Tope Awotona secured a substantial $350 million investment in 2021, propelling the company’s valuation to $3 billion.

Prior to establishing Calendly, Awotona ventured into other businesses, such as a projector-selling venture and a garden tools enterprise, both of which did not succeed. The majority of his wealth, however, comes from the software he created.

A graduate with a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Georgia, Awotona resides in Atlanta, Georgia, with his family.

Calendly, the software company he founded, specializes in a business communication platform designed for teams to efficiently schedule, prepare, and follow up on external meetings.

Igbo mods, I see I am really peppering you guys and you are triggered by my username. Created this thread in politics section and it was literally moved in minutes to Business section.

I would not have a problem with that if silly threads, totally unrelated to politics, are not left in the politics sector for days.

Spambot now bans me every other day when there is no spam and issues are more to do with how some can't stand truth said against there own.

Anyway, I blame that turncoat Seun. He has now created a forum where bigoted and power-drunk Igbo mods are giving Yorubas the Kaduna Nzeogwu
treatment without even hiding it. Goodluck to you bigoted and shameless Mods. Enjoy the only place where you have and will ever have any power.

I am currently banned for 1 month in the politics section too for comment that is not even toxic like other one being left on there.

Nairaland has now turned to a military arena where some mods police your words and could ban you for just typing “A” if it go against the mod agenda.

Well it is what it is. If Seun like it that way, we don’t have a choice than to follow his policy coz it’s his website after all.

It is a disgrace bro. We now have mods who are the equivalent of boxing referees who hold your hands behind you, to nullify your right to retaliate, so their kinsmen can punch you in the face.

Be peppering Igbos too much on a thread, even as they started it, and a so-called spambot will take you out for a day or two.

They target specific posters also I am sure they tag "troublemakers" but they are wasting their time as Nairaland is a true reflection of Nigeria no muzzling of certain posters can hide.

Watch to note everything Yoruba leaders do today is about more autonomy to live in homogeneity as we please showing we are fed up of them.

If that is the reality on ground then what is the fake cover-up and partisan moderation that goes on here all day in aid of?

More or less what happened with mine whereas many threads unconnected to politics are left in the political section permanently.

Posters protests yet mods do nothing meaning they clearly and deliberately target some posters 'of interest' and their threads.

Yes I am very proudly and vocally pro-Yoruba. That pisses off mods who cannot stand it when I dismantle their kinsmen who tend to start mudslinging against Yorubas here always.
