What ever system or balance you will suggest must include those two as well as other key players if not the team's strength will be diminished.

By the way which wingers? Only winger I see is Saka and he can play with Kane as a front two

................... Kane...... Saka..................
..................... Bellingham.....................
Foden........................................... TAA
........................... Rice............................
When you have a close to star-studded team in which every players are on top of their game, what you as a coach should consider first is balance.

Lionel Scaloni couldn't take Dybala to Copa America. Sometimes, we have seen Dybala and Lautaro Martinez sitting in the bench. Why? There must be balance.

The formation you proposed here can't work please. Saka is a winger, a proper winger at that.. not a wide forward.

First of all Saka is not a proper winger. At bestbhebis inverted. An inverted winger is a forward. A proper winger is like a midfielder.

That said, I am not against balance. I am simply saying that whatever you do you must accommodate your best players. National team football is not club football where you get all you want. In national team it's what's available so you try to maximise it. That's what makes you a national team coach.

Let me use Scotland as an example. They have two class left backs. In Tierney and Robinson. They have to play both of them. That's why they play a bac three so Tierney plays as a half CB.

Another example is Croatia that just finished playing. They have to clash AM in Kovacic and Modric. They played both of them.

If your best players are two strikers, play a 4-4-2 or 3-5-2. When Mexico had Forlan and Suarez they played both. The only way you can avoid this is if both are GKs.

Oh thanks for the correction.

Let me add Germany in this Euro.

They have Kroos, Gundogan, Musiala, Wirtz, Havertz and they played all of them. Formation 4-2-3-1 no wingers in their starting eleven. Not that they don't have but they play all their best players.

This is exactly my point when people are omitting Foden.

How will it be that an Epl best player can't break into England squad?
Like not only a Man City starter but current Epl best and league winner. Such player is considered a squad player because of balance? I've never heard of such sha and I doubt the Fa will take it lightly if Southgate does such.
It's not easy at all for a coach to bench him, no matter the reason he wants to give. Bellingham winning La liga best player even compounds matter.

Southgate should just play him and Bellingham in midfield. Forcing him out on the wings (not even his favorable wing sef) will not do both England and Foden any favor

Let me divide everything for you and move.

1. Your bolded is contradictory. Balance has nothing to do with best players. You can try to fit all your best players in the same lineup and an inferior team will beat your team mercilessly.

2. Saka and Salad are inverted wingers by your definition but both are different type of player. Arteta may play him as a wide forward in future but for now, he is a winger. The only wing forward I our team in Martinelli that's why we wanted Arteta to play him as a striker sometimes back.

3. All your examples didn't follow. The teams you mentioned were able to find balance and at the same time fit in their best players in the team. Can you say the same about England?

4. Kovacic is not an AM!!!!!

Well, England should just forget about winning anything then.
A midfield of Rice, Jude and Foden will be so disjointed and Rice will be overworked. You have Jude who likes bombing into the box and then Foden who is attackminded. The midfield go be like expressway. grin grin grin

My point is not about benching one player or not. If Southgate finds a balance that accomodates everybody, good for him. However, going by name or club form instead of balance when picking a team will be disastrous.

Lol... You're right but I'm just looking at it from Southgate point of view.

The only reason why Foden is starting presently is because he won epl best player in England while starring at the best club in England. So It's never happening for him to be benched. It's like saying Spain coach should bench la liga best player in Spain NT when the said player plays for either Barca or Madrid. Or a German coach should bench Bundesliga player of the season when said player plays for Bayern.
What does that say about the league if that happens?
How do you convince people to see how good your league is if your best player can't even start in his own league's country? grin

Remember Foden himself wasn't a guaranteed starter in England (from last Euros to last Wc). It's reason why I said earlier that Southgate hands are hooked in terms of this Foden and Bellingham matter

Well, there's a reason Southgate is being paid. This is one of the challenges that comes with it. He's the coach hence he should look for a way to balance them.

And as I dey here so, I no care how him wan take balance dem Foden and Bellingham. I just need that Euros cup to come back to England cheesy
