The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reserved judgment in the appeal filed by a former speaker of the River State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and 24 others against the Speaker, Victor Oko-Jumbo, and five others. Advertisement The appellate court adjourned after the parties in the suit adopted all their briefs in the matter. At the proceeding that was conducted virtually on Thursday, Amaewhule and others are asking the court to stay execution of a high court judgement which saw them out of office and further proceedings in the suit and that whatever decisions Jumbo has taken while in office, should be set aside. READ ALSO: Appeal Court Refuses To Reverse Removal Of Amaewhule, 26 Rivers Assembly Members They are also asking for an accelerated hearing in the matter while contending that the order made by the trial court was without jurisdiction. Advertisement In their response, Amaewhule and others, prayed the court to dismiss the appeal for lacking in merit because the records of appeal transmitted were incompetent. After listening to the submission of the lawyers in the appeal, the three-man panel led by Justice Jimi Olukayode-Bada reserved a date for judgment to be communicated to parties in the suit. The appellate court had in a ruling on June 14 ordered that all parties in the suit maintain status quo and cease every form of hostilities until the matter is heard and decided. This was to lay to rest a motion exparte brought before the court by the appellants seeking reversal of a high court judgment that declared their seats vacant as lawmakers. Advertisement The appeal court also stopped the State High Court or any other court from entertaining the matter until it was decided. A Rivers State High Court, in Port Harcourt, had on May 10, 2024, stopped Martin Amaewhule from parading himself as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The court gave the order after considering a motion brought before it by the new Speaker of the House, Victor Jumbo, and 2 others, to the effect that his seat had been declared vacant. Justice Charles Wali, while ruling on the motion ex parte, also barred 24 other members of the Assembly from accessing the complex or carrying out any such Legislative assignment in the name of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Advertisement Dissatisfied with the verdict of the State High Court, Amaewhule and others approached the appellate court. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.channelstv.com/2024/06/20/rivers-crisis-appeal-court-reserves-judgment-in-amaewhules-appeal/amp/&ved=2ahUKEwidwafTxOyGAxWtQUEAHdsQAZgQFnoECBMQBQ&usg=AOvVaw0UxlcFMtpcTRYyQX3N2_NE Mynd44 Nplfmod Seun Fergie001 Mrvitalis Mrksquare Seanfer |

senatordave1:Still confused here. Last week it was Court of Appeal Port Harcourt. Yesterday and Today it is Court of Appeal Abuja. Was the Appeal moved from PH to Abuja? |
| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by senatordave1(op): 1:02pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
ddippset:I don't know but since it was done via zoom, they may be in Abuja for security purposes.but wike group will win this in respect of the assembly issues |
| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by ddippset(m): 1:32pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
senatordave1:Why do you think they would win? Dunno if you are a lawyers, but let's discuss in layman's terms. |
| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by senatordave1(op): 1:35pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
ddippset:In the eyes of the law, they didn't defect from PDP |

senatordave1:Hmm, they wanted to use style to decide the case of lawmakers first If it goes in favor of wike, Sim go see shege |
| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by ddippset(m): 1:51pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
senatordave1:I think they did. There is video evidence to that. And more importantly they swore to an affidavit at a Federal high court that they were no longer members of the PDP. Note that parties don't give certificates or NON membership cards when people defect. ![]() I admit that it is hard to prove that they defected to APC, but it is easy to prove that they left from PDP. And what is important to this case is to prove that they LEFT PDP, not to prove that they joined APC. |
| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by senatordave1(op): 1:56pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
ddippset:You can't think in legal cases, you must be sure.documentary evidences are what matters not video evidences.defection takes place when a letter is written to the ward chairman and copied to the nwc.for legislators,a letter is written to the speaker and announced on the floor of the house.besides, their names are still on pdp register and their party hasn't disowned them. For the affidavit part, they can disown that.plus, they have abandoned that particular case and are pursuing something else |

senatordave1:I want you to explain more oh because what I understand is; the then speaker Martins Amehwule announced their defection under oath on the floor of the house and an official letter of defection was written to that effect with all names and signatures of the 'defectees' attached herewith. What's the criteria for defection of state law makers? |

ddippset:One of the major reasons you guys always lost out in any political struggle in Nigeria is that you guys do politics with emotion not fact What did you want the judge to do, when PDP as told the court they're still members...? Even the lawyer that's representing PDP in court is a well know Wike lawyer Best way for Sim is to find way to delay the case. |

senatordave1:Which law? They declared that they have joined APC. What law are you referring to? By PDP construction, they have left the party. |
| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by TheElites19s: 2:17pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
Validated:Even in the eyes of law, is only PDP that as the right to take them to court They're the owner of their sit not the state government |

| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by royalwax2: 2:30pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
senatordave1:There was defection and it would be proven in the higher court if the case gets there. |
| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by senatordave1(op): 2:32pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
royalwax2:You will prove it with letters but obviously you can't.no letter was provided at any court,it's a dead case |
| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by ddippset(m): 2:32pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
TheElites19s:You're the one being emotional right now. So you would take a statement from PDP over a sworn affidavit from the lawmakers themselves? A word of mouth over an affidavit? Do you know what a sworn affidavit is? Those lawmakers only win this case if the judge is biased. Afterall na them Tinubu get appeal court... |
| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by TheElites19s: 2:34pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
senatordave1:That's just the bitter truth Best way for Sim is to use delay tactics |
| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by senatordave1(op): 2:35pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
ddippset:The supreme court in the Kano guber case clearly said only a party can tell who it's members are.that affidavit is not even before the appeal court. |
| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by senatordave1(op): 2:37pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
TheElites19s:Yes but it will still fail.unfortunately once appeal rules against him,it will take at least a year for the apex court to settle it. The only thing he can do after this is to get an order stopping the house from impeaching him, removing the chief judge etc which are all temporary measures |
| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by ddippset(m): 2:38pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
senatordave1:You want to tell me that Amaechi, Saraki, Atiku, Barauje, and all those who angrily defected from PDP to APC and stormed out on Jonathan at Eagles square in 2014 wrote defection letters to their wards and went to their ward chairmen? ![]() Dey play. It is the norm to write to your ward but that doesn't entirely prove defection. I can tell you that 90 percent of politicians who have defected in this country never wrote defection letters or went to their wards. I know we have a crooked judiciary.. And that's the only way the 27 lawmakers would get away from this one. They left PDP and swore under oath to that. |

| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by Melagros(m): 2:42pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
COMRADES, I think, I'll advise the court to fast track all current cases concerning Rivers State for the sake of peace, honestly, the tension is high in the state right now Amehwele will be the poorest speaker at the expiration of his tenure |
| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by senatordave1(op): 2:42pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
ddippset:Was the defection of new pdp in 2013 under contention? Oga,the high court judge last week indirectly settled this matter even though he had no jurisdiction.the judiciary is not crooked.for you to prove that someone defected, you must provide their defection letter in court.i already told you that the supreme e court said only a party can tell who it's members are and membership register is a veritable means |
| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by ddippset(m): 2:43pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
senatordave1:Which Chief judge? Simeon Amadi ![]() That one is simplified already.. |
| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by senatordave1(op): 2:43pm On Jun 21, 2024 |

| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by ddippset(m): 2:44pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
senatordave1:Which kain question be this. By referencing 2013, I am only trying to put it to you guys that one doesn't have to write any ward chairman or go to any fuccking ward to defect.. |
| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by senatordave1(op): 2:45pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
ddippset:Oh,you are pro sim? He is pro sim and sim suspended him? Sim might survive impeachment but the lawmakers will win in court |
| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by senatordave1(op): 2:46pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
ddippset:In court, you will have to provide documentary evidence unfortunately.better accept defeat and reduce the gutter language |
| Re: Rivers Crisis: Appeal Court Reserves Judgment In Appeal Brought By Amaewhule by phantom(m): 2:49pm On Jun 21, 2024 |
senatordave1:He asked you wether you know what a sworn affidavit is and you are beating around the Bush.. those 27 lawmakers read out their defection letters ON THE FLOOR OF THE HOUSE ! That alone is more than sufficient if admitted in court. To make matters worse they swore to an affidavit at the FHC . That's why they abandoned the omotosho case. That affidavit is enough to nail them by an incorruptible judge. Most people who defect, do it on the floor of the house first. Party register and party card issuance all came later. They are not the first action in the process. Please go and check what the procedures are for a defection. Those 27 lawmakers are done for if their case is handled by an incorruptible judiciary but na naija we dey. 🚶🏾♂️🚶🏾♂️🚶🏾♂️ |
