4 or 5 in my opinion

Most parents who put their babies in schools at tender ages are doing that Cos of others or to have chance for other things

The earlier you enroll your son/daughter in school even he/she is just 2 years old

This my generation are not like the other generations. This is the Gen-z generation where technology is everywhere and their kids are much much more smarter than the previous generations
So, you can't use same technology to start with the child before taking them to school? What happens to helping the child learn on YouTube?

They even start schooling from the moment fertilisation occurs in the fallopian tube.

Can't you see how smart they are in evil knowledge than we were as children?

Schooling can be home made or outside home.
But educational psychology gives a child the first 3 years to be under the home tutelage of values and family familiarity. This goes a long way in the child's life.

At 3, you can then register him or her in their whatever private nonsense calls education.

But to be candid with you, take the child to a trusted church or government school with true discipline when he or she is going to high school.

I speak with vast experiences and reasons

what you did is exactly the right thing. My daughter started school at age 3 & she is doing amazing things.

NaijaCopy:
I followed the example of Mikel Obi (at least no one can say money was his problem) with his twin girls in far away Russia and enrolled my daughter at age 3.

Hardly any year passes when she does not win the overall best pupil in all the school's campuses (they have about 4 in Lagos) and called to the podium to receive gifts and shake hands with the school proprietor.

When we wanted to change her school some time ago, a delegation of teachers of 4 came to dissuade us as soon as they suspected that plan was afoot.

Back then the mum was almost crying when she was 2 and I said let's wait until 3. I cited Mikel's example. Thank God her dad, who's intellectual, agreed with me.

I consider anything earlier than 3 as a waste of time and money, and undue mental pressure on the child (except both parents are extremely busy people).

Mind you, even without formal education, the child is not "playing" at age under 3. He/she is actually subconsciously getting the best of informal education from both parents and any caring relative around. The child is actively learning basic/foundational language, communication, and relational skills without any of the parties actively conscious of it. This stage of learning shouldn't be formalized for the child at his/her level of brain development.

Formal education should start at 3.
Great advice. You have it

Saladdin:
Then they end up making the child vulnerable to bullying, exploitation and initiation into vices at a young age.

If you so much value your work over your child, while bother giving birth, that's irresponsible.

At the end of the day they spend their fortunes taking the child to rehabs, police station and fake pastors. Ndi busy parents.
To make matters worse, after closing, they still engage the service of a lesson teacher in the school thereby keeping the child in school till around 6pm.
Majority of the ills in the society today are the by product of parental failure.

You'll see parents who teachers beg to come and pick their toddlers from school by 5:00 pm jumping on this thread to talk about how kids should start school at age 4 years, 2 years is too early yen yen yen. Dear OP, You were simply home schooling your child before you took her to a traditional school setting at age 3. It doesn't mean she started school at age 3. You used technology and other things to ensure that she was not missing out on what her mates were doing in school. Not every parent can afford that because they both need to work. It definitely means that between you and your wife, one of you stay at home or run your own personal business that can afford you that time. Both homeschooling and traditional schooling is still schooling as long as learning takes place. People homeschool their kids till 10years and just send them to Secondary School.

"Pre-nursery" do you mean Kg?
ITbomb:
Mine started pre nursery at 2 mainly because no one would be at home to take care of her and she needed company to develop as she has speech delay .

She still enjoy maximum home play when she's back.
If need be, she may have to repeat a class to be with her mates. All cost on me
Re: When Should A Child Start School? by Love800(m): 10:52am On Jun 22, 2024
But nursery prepares the child for primary.
Why did you say dis?
TreasureJunky:
The appropriate time to start school is actually 6years, primary 1. Nursery school is a waste of resources
Re: When Should A Child Start School? by Love800(m): 10:53am On Jun 22, 2024
So ur child wont pass through Kg?
Mimiranky:
5years is the best.... But if you have money to waste the child should start at 1yr 6months.... Up till now I don't see the benefits of KG class... Primary 1 straight up
Re: When Should A Child Start School? by Love800(m): 10:54am On Jun 22, 2024

From age 4 and above. There are several studies in support of this.

Don't give in to any stupid pressure. Most people are just doing follow follow.

The ideal age is three. By then, the child can now speak well and understand instructions. Parents also will observe the child to know when to put them in school. Some children are very intelligent. My daughter started school at age of 2yrs and 2months.
What's the progress today?
Re: When Should A Child Start School? by Meerahbel: 12:24pm On Jun 22, 2024
Home schooling is the best. The only disadvantage is that the kids would lack social skills
NairalandGOAT1:
I like how blunt you sound in your write up... 😆

Honestly, strong head is underestimated, especially by our parents and elders who will think you're just being stubborn, meanwhile the 2 are different eveb though they're similar.... Hahahaha 😂

My brother make no body pressure you at all ooh....
My boy will be 3 in October and he already knows most of the nursery rhymes since he has been schooling from home 😜
What do they do in the creche apart from to go there and watch Coco melon? Yes! Cartoons 🤣 all day long!!!
(I know this because we enrolled him last year and later pulled him out because it's a total waste of our money) Use that money to subscribe your cable TV, get a kiddies pad and data subscription for your child and there you have your full creche at home.

Those who enrolled their kids at an earlier age do so because
1). They(both parents) are working and do not have the time to take care of their kids.
2). They just want to ease themselves of the children's wahala 😁

Lastly, from a personal experience, a child should be enrolled in school only when he/she has started speaking so the child can be able to report the teachers to you their parents just in case of any abuse and that's between ages 3-4 years.

The OP probably thinks he's still in the 70s. Describing pre-school as something stressful for children. Lolz. cheesy cheesy

Pre-school is a very fun place for them. I'm talking of standard pre schools o. Firstly, their classroom is decorated like a home. Secondly, they watch cartoons, educational videos and sing rhymes all day. Thirdly, they do play learning. Fourthly, they eat and sleep at will. Most importantly, they are well looked after by professionals.

When our second child was 2 years old, I and the mum had thought we wouldn't enroll him until he's 3. Just like you, we wanted him to enjoy playing and at home and of course to save our money. cheesy cheesy After dropping off the older sister, we decided to take a tour of their preschool section. We were blown away! It was marvellous and wonderful. That same week, we enrolled him. And it turned out to be one of our best decisions.

I'll give you just a few pointers; firstly, enroll them in a school that is very close to where you live. At that age, it's not ideal for them to be waking up too early or using the school bus. Secondly, enroll them in a good school so that the issue of poor hygiene and maltreatment wouldn't happen. Furthermore, if enrolled in a good school, your child's learning will surprise you so much that you'll gladly promote the school to all and sundry. cheesy cheesy
