Yeah seems I know the guy channel. What you said is true, maybe it can be reduced. But the problem is I don't think any serious candidate would use it to campaign. Because these cults in Benin are the one that would deliver the polling units for u.

Obviously, just like every other crime cultism cannot be eradicated but it can be reduced ; especially the killings.

There's one guy on Telegram and other social media accounts by the name Naija Confra. The guy campaigns against cultism and cult killings in general, if u see gory videos and pictures of cult killings happening on a regular basis in this country ehn shocked...... If u check most of the cult killings, majority of the ones he reports from South-South are from Benin, Auchi. He reports from other states too but mehn the one from Edo state too much
Uniben, Ekpoma and Abraka were 3 of the first schools in Nigeria to take cultism to nuclear levels. Honorable mention to EShoot.

https://www.channelstv.com/2024/06/24/it-will-take-decades-to-get-out-of-banditry-sultan/

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Saad Abubakar III, says it will take decades for the bandit-ravaged North-West geopolitical zone to come out of the menacing security challenge.

The President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) stated this at the North-West Peace and Security Summit in Katsina State on Monday.

“What we must do is to challenge these bandits because we all know the consequences of banditry and insurgency on our lives. But it will take decades to get out of it if all we get out of it. We all know the consequences and the problems,” he said.

The Sultan expressed the readiness of traditional rulers to partner with security agencies and the seven governors of the geopolitical zone to “save our region from the numerous problems” of banditry and insurgency.
I am not sure the north can eradicate banditry because they have built and are still building a giant pool of disaffected young men who were condemned to a lifetime of the deepest poverty. They naver had any plan for this beyond treating the symptoms ( with paltry handouts) while feeding the disease (promoting unsustainable population growth)

If you kill every bandit today it doesn't matter. The genie is out of the bottle. There are several more who will take their place.

Wow. So na two lawyers wan tag up to be Governor and Deputy governor? Didn't even know his deputy governor candidate is also a lawyer.

I just glanced through the manifesto now and I noticed he didn't really speak to the cultism menace that has plagued Edo state for so long. I know he mentioned Security, law and order as one of the 5 action points ; but I didn't really see where he mentioned what will be done to deal critically with the cultism cancer.

I was going to say it is surprising he gave Oshiomole "big-ups" at the beginning of the manifesto where he talked about "Our Past" considering they belong to different camps. Then I saw Past Service to Edo state where it was stated he was on the economic team of Oshiomole while he was governor. So, more like Asue Ighodalo is PDAPC through and through. He was APC and then PDP.

No wam!

On paper he seem like he is kinda prepared for the task ahead. Whether Godfatherism, internal political party wranglings and other extraneous will impact on his administration (if he wins) ; only time will tell.
Yes o, na two lawyers, but AI has extensive experience in finance/energy, plus his first degree was actually economics so I don't think the team is as narrow as it looks on first glance.

Yea, AI has been around for a while, and probably na establishment person, but he's the best on the ballot, so na just to hope say the man come good.

Really don't know what the guy can do regarding cultism sha, cause it's almost like a culture at this point, like pikin fit just go drink with friends next thing dem don run small bamming tell am make e dey fly color. Engaging with relevant stakeholders and allowing the law take it's place with persons that violate whatever agreements might be a way to go...until a more permanent solution, but make we dey see sha.

Seem prepared for the task ahead grin, this phrase dey give me ptsd, same thing was said about Tinubu and how he is strategizing and mapping out plans because he has been preparing for presidency for a long long time but he has had the most disastrous first year tenure ever.....

This is it, Perhaps if obaseki never had issues with Oshiomole, they'd all still be in Apc together today and flint wouldnt reason him because he is an Apc man...

I dont know why he is giving osho big ups,We all know oshiomole failed in the state and because his predecessor igbinedion dropped the bar so low doesnt mean the bare minimum will be accepted and him being part of the economic team made it worst....The reason the state is not high in poverty index is because of black tax like this shown in this stat and not cos of any govt intervention or good economic policies, it is the reason bad vices like yahoo are high in the states...Make him, Obaseki and oshi go look bush, we wan try new party and not PDAPC again....
There's now way someone that licked mic in front of a camera had anything to offer, na just say make person no lose hope totally we dey, e get some SUG presidents we go deliver pass Tinubu of today.

Oshiomhole did okay in his first tenure, but the second tenure wasn't good at all, typical naija governor, first term IGG, second term shit show. No be just to try new party sha, what are Akpata's plans for the state, where's his manifesto, when would he show up for a debate to defend his plans?

The implication of this thing runs wild . It simply means none of us is safe .

Anybody can buy ur NIN details , use it to run a criminal parole and later law enforcement will be looking for u instead of the criminals .

For example they can buy my NIN details , use it to register MTN sim. Later when they kidnap someone they use the line to call for ransom payment . If police decide to check MTN’s record for who the line was registered to, they will just see my details and assume I’m the criminal when in fact I don’t even know a line was registered with my details.

Chai!

Who do we blame for this now ? Is it Pantami? Bosun ? Or the staff of NIMC both past and current ?

But this isn't news na, have heard this talk since Buhari's era, maybe Fisayo just decided to go down the rabbit hole so the facts of it can't be denied.

A government that is serious and wants to curb a menace like cultism can actually start by making cultism a serious offense that carries maximum sentence upon conviction.

Let the governor work with the state house of assembly & come up with a very strong anti-cultism law.

For example look at what Lagos state did with sexual violence/rape law. If u are found guilty of rape/sexual violence in Lagos , it is life imprisonment ; No abeg sir. Ur name will also be published in the sexual offenders’ register .

Though I agree there needs be toughness on cultism, I really don't know about maximum sentencing, especially since recruitment into cultism can come through coercion in some cases and some of these cultists are secondary school kids...prison population is also something to be considered when deciding on maximum sentencing.

Funny how my dad had this very edition of The News Magazine .

It was this very edition of the magazine I first read about the Chagouri brothers . The publication was like 5 months after Abacha died .

Bayo Onanuga and the rest of the media guys then actually fought for democracy with their pen. It is shame that all of them are now the oppressors today. They are the ones justifying some of the nonsense they fought against back then. For example he’s criticizing labour for protesting against hardship caused by government’s policy .

The first thing they need to do is establish a cultist register. Once you are on the register you are banned from tertiary institutions. No rustication from unilag to resume on Unilorin. Cultism comes with no consequences

It is always different on the other side. Small time you will be doing some of the things as a parent that your dad did which pissed you off.

As employer of labour you will focus on business profitability and survival first. Your unionism go enter toilet

Baba cultism is a crime , even though I’m not a lawyer I don’t think there’s any defence in criminal law like claiming “I was coerced to commit a crime “.

The law is the law. Take a look at a brief summary of the Lagos anti-cultism law below . Something like this will suffice .

Like Gloriousgbola mentioned above, let there be a cultism register and let anybody who is convicted have his name registered in it. Let such person be deprived of rights of a normal citizen . Let all those nonsense of flying color stop .

It is because older generation fly color without any consequence that’s why younger generation think it’s funky to be a cultist

Nobody is expecting his unionism to shine through as the spokesperson of the government . But one expects that his years in the trenches would make him understand the pain of the union and their members.

Instead of going combative and always really to fight the unions , he should speaking to their pain points and communicating what the government is doing to assuage their discontent with his principal .

By law they are juveniles. What they need is some scared straight roughhandling that may shake those who are doing follow follow out of it. This assumes they have not actually been in any crimes like rape or aggravated assault though

Hmmm. It’s not that straightforward o.

Nigeria operates two criminal law system; In the south criminal code is operational while penal code is operational in the North . Both have different definitions of minor and how a minor is culpable when it comes to crime.

The twist is ; Lagos state has even jettisoned the criminal code operational in the rest part of Southern Nigeria . Lagos state enacted its own criminal law in 2011.

If you'll excuse my language, they have no problem fking 10 year Olds in the North so I don't expect them to have any problem sentencing them to death.
