LATEST ARCHEOLOGICAL DISCOVERY IN IFÈ:

Ifè - Sungbo Archeological Project: Episode 3

ArcheoBotanical Studies have shown that Sorghum, Wheat, Cotton were cultivated in Ifè around circa 1200 A.D.

Sorghum was expected as it's indigenous to west Africa and has been around since 3000-2000 BC, however, Wheat and cotton were a little bit of surprise.

Cotton was dated to 11th-12th Century and early for such a highly forested area of Ifè and speaks of thriving textile industry that dates back.

The Wheat has been the most exciting find, research report will soon be published in coming months.

The Wheat collection from Ifè is largest in whole of Sub Saharan Africa and dated to 12th-13th century.

Wheat is a big surprise because it's not a crop that grows around Ifè today, Ifè is too Humid and Wheat is a Temperate Crop.

If wheat grew in Ife yeas ago why can't we grow it now?

The species should be analyzed let's see if we can extract some genes from it so we can formulate morden wheats to grow in sub Saharan Africa... Once that's done it would change a lot

I can't say that I'm surprised.
The great Igbo race populated around there then and very possibly engaged in various agricultural and technological activities. Some of them later migrated towards their present location now.

So has the study reduced the price of bread and other products made from wheats?
God really blessed Nigeria but the devil came and sowed weeds and tares ( corrupt politicians and religious leaders)
A country with enough man power and human resources including natural resources but useless leaders ruining everything. Chai 😭😭😭 This is very painful

Amazing! Political have made a lot of people become lazy. The majority of those in the senate have abandoned their businesses. I support the regional government, if well spelt-out. The likes of Ado Doguwa who's always parading his cache of wives as his own achievement will go back to farm because wastages will be cut to size at the centre.

Pa Awo, may your soul RIP. He remains the only politician with the love of the masses at heart. He believed agriculture was the only way to prosperity and end to poverty. Not only was he preaching this, he also walked the talk. Any government that can build the likes of OAU, Odua Investments today will take trillions of naira worth of world bank loan.

How can someone travel to the Americas and bring home a weed and spray it on such a vast land as that of the south west and south south (incl the old bendel state) with helicopter, just to make soil fertile naturally? That's what we call the akintola weed today. Awolowo remains the only politician with the love of the masses at heart...not those buying private jets while their sons are buying estates overseas.

Since wheat grew before in Ife, then it can grow again with some concentrated genetic modification..

Many foods that are existing today were brought back alive by genetics engineer. If not, evolutionary changes would have perished a lot of foods !

Genetically Modification of crop seedlings and things are rampant in advance countries..

The cash and food crops we currently have, how efficiently are we cultivating them? The gold and other known mineral resources in that area, how have they helped or bettered the livelihood of the common man, my brother forget...the black man is a hopeless chess pond in a lawless game of global interests.

Firstly, is it the same whether they are experiencing now that they were experiencing then huh
Additionally, where do you expect them to get samples from undecided

Bro it's just 1000 years ago so whether won't change much

I said extract the genes of the wheat that's enough we don't need samples... We can engineer a wheat closest to it to become it
