We need to turn the AU to a monetary union just like the EU. A single currency will solve a lot of the problem in Africa. The lack of forex thereby leading to an unstable local exchange rate is the bane of the current economic problems all over the continent. We rely too much on dollars for everything and it is not helping our local economy. African leaders should develop the balls and ditch the dollar. With a single currency, trade among African country will increase significantly and this will have a significant effect on the local economy of the continent. Shocks from weak economies can also be spread within the continent. |

![]() The bastar* and uneducated cocaine-sniffing Tinubu who projects himself as president will never learn from this. Instead, he will keep pumping money into CSOs' pockets to avoid a coup. Tinubu's Will leave Nigeria in ruins by the time he's done borrowing. |

Odin13:This is a thread about Kenyan and the problems facing the country. Instead of offering a sensible analysis of the problem or offering suggested solutions, you reduced your comment to attacking Tinubu and Yoruba people . What has this thread got to do with Yoruba people? Let's even talk about protests, uprising and other forms of social disturbances that low IQ folks like you are praying for. I am sure you were old enough when the Arab spring started. So tell us, Is Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Syria etc better off today than before the Arab spring? How exactly has the Kenyan protest improved the economy of the country? How will protest improve the economy of Nigeria? See, we know what bitter losers like you guys want. You don't want any protest, what you want is an insurrection. Sadly, you won't get it. The Atiku Abubakar you supported in 2023 is the most corrupt person to ever occupy a public office in Nigeria. He will never be president just like Peter Obi. If you don't have sensible ideas to share or lack a proper understanding of the problem facing Africa, move to the jokes section or just be posting "Power to the North" like you did severally before the presidential election. |

seunmsg:The problem is not the dollar, the problem is the corruption in Africa and people who should have no business with leadership figting to lead like the case we presently have in Nigeria in the past decade.... Your solution might only end up making Africa worse off, because it will now be a case where you have the bad leaders of some African countries jeopardizing the efforts of the ones who are trying make significant impact, just like what is happening in Nigeria here too, when some people jeorpadize the efforts of others to pick good leaders, the result is evident today.... It is best every African country stays on its own till we have at least 90% good leaders in all African countries... |

The last thing close to a true leader we had was Obasanjo. YarAdua was weak and thus selected for that purpose. GEJ was equally weak and never really a politician seeing he is just a guy with good luck. Buhari was no doubt an error even his wife and kids know about. Tinubu is an amplification of Buhari to power of 100. We need a leader urgently and not all these efulefu atiku n Obi masquerading as solutions. The pattern of debt we are towing is so similar to Kenya's. Huge loans that cant pay even the interest alone talk less about principal. What were the loans used for? |

Toh If Kenya government had withdrawn the finance bill, why are there youths still protesting? More destructions of government properties mean more ways to embezzle more money |

seunmsg:adopting a single currency is not the issue. We are in debt. Debt that has been wasted and cannot repay the interest alone not to talk of the principal loan amount. The idea of exploiting oil rich region and treating them as booty has backfired. What we have is a situation where our debts have been wasted and repayment is eating a huge chunk of the oil money our indolence is structured upon and supported by. Activity dont grow GDP, productivity does and I am afraid we have lost touch with reality. When last was cash crop planted. It may reduce reckless printing of money but not for too long. What happens when like minded leaders assume power across the african states and decide to capitulate at once by printing money to quell civil unrest. That's where we are heading. |

seunmsg:that last sentence is the reason why this whole move is dead on arrival. The EU stands today because it's large economies like Germany, France and Italy are fairly stable and so therefore can absorb shocks from smaller economies like the balkan members. If we had one currency, and Nigeria economy being one of the largest fell as it did currently, that currency will still be devalued by a long mile. Plus African fiscal institutions are still not ripe for such adventure. EU can admit those smaller countries because Germany and France are bouyant enough to carry them along. Nigeria and South Africa can't even carry themselves talk more of carrying another country |

I dont really understand the Kenyan issue. Is the proposed tax higher than what is obtainable in western Europe? western europe pay up to thirty percent. If not, what they should have done in Kenya is increase the minimum wage so that minimum wage earners will not feel the weight of the new tax and there may be quiet. On sovereign debts generally, the UN should acquire everything and all nations should pay up part of their revenue for the repayment by the UN while all governments are advised to henceforth stay off debts but rather have sovereign wealth funds. They should choose surplus instead of deficits |

lawani:All what you are proferring as solutions requires money and where will the money come from? They unlike Nigeria, do no have oil to fall back on. They took huge loans but wasted them on unproductive things that is hard to tax the general populace on. Things like small roads at inflated cost. Look at buhari, He built rails through his village but can his village people patronize that rail well enough to cover the repaymentt, now how will someone from faraway Abia or Osun feel if he is asked to repay that loan used to fund the rail that isnt serving his community. |

RepoMan007:If you increase minimum wage in order to tax it, that does not require money and no one will complain since it is rub my back I rub yours for minimum wage earners and government |
