‘many Structures Will Go Down’, Lagos Blows Hot Over Flood by dre11(op): 7:27pm On Jul 03, 2024
Lagos State Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, on Wednesday, vowed that many structures obstructing the free flow of rain water will be removed.

He said those structures would be removed “irrespective of who or highly placed the owners are.”

Wahab spoke in the wake of the ravaging flood which submerged many houses, communities and properties in Lagos.

Some of the affected areas include Epe, Eredo, Bogije, Labora, Abijon, Sangotedo, Awoyaya and Ibeju-Lekki.

A primary six pupil simply identified as Joshua was swept away by flood in Ikosi, Ketu area of Lagos State.

Daily Trust reports that some miscreants also took advantage of the crisis as they charged passers-by N100 to access a makeshift bridge at the Tradefair under-bridge in Lagos.

The commissioner, however, unleashed his anger on a post on social media asking him to explain if “the Igbo-owned property and business demolition we witnessed in Lagos 2023, was all politically engineered?”

@PureStanley1 posted that “Can we all now agree that the Igbo owned property and business demolition we witnessed in Lagos 2023, was all politically engineered? and we were told that some of the buildings were built on canals, thereby blocking the flow of water and causing flooding in Lagos.

@tokunbo_wahab can u explain to us why there was a flood in Lagos again yesterday and the early hours of today, after going on demolition spree on IGBOS owned properties?

“Take the Microphone sir, we await ur response!.”

But Wahab fired back and accused the social media user of pushing ethnic narrative.

Many more structures obstructing the free flow of rain water in Lagos will still be removed irrespective of who or highly placed the owners are. Prepare your mind to make your usual aimless and empty noise. If turning it to ethnic narrative makes you happy, go ahead! TW,” he posted.

Long overdue

At the same time, LASG should also fish out the criminals in the land department who always approve the building even though na wrong place
Re: ‘many Structures Will Go Down’, Lagos Blows Hot Over Flood by immortalcrown(m):
Good!

But let it not be selective justice. What will happen to the government workers that approved those buildings?

Meanwhile, at least 50% of the houses in Lekki should go down. A large portion of Lekki should be for beaches because of the land level compared to the sea level.

Buildings don't just spring up overnight. The relevant authorities that are responsible for preventing such illegal structures should sit up.

Pulling down buildings is a reactive measure. Always better to be proactive.

Prevention is always better than cure.

Seems the houses u demolished made the floods worse

Obviously there was no drainage cleaning towards the last dry season

I honestly feel most state should look at Enugu state model in terms of estate development... Enugu is getting it right other states should follow

Be deceiving the gullible ones….common road una no get. Build drainage on the major road first.

Lagos state government is not doing enough compared to the amount they develop.

No visible major infrastructure.

Who told you that?. How many roads does Lagos state build in a year?.
Most of the roads in the estates and other major roads was built by individuals.
What has Lagos state government built on the ones that they pulled down?.

Did you see any new drainage on the already demolished structures?.

They should first account for the money they generate before pulling down any house.

You never build common road and drainage for major roads na the ones for bush?.

If 50% house in lekki goes down, will you give 50% of lekki occupants a house to shelter them?.
People wey never build house go just dey talk Cho Cho Cho.

What have they built on the ones they pulled down?

Did they build any new drainage on the ones?.

Apart from pulling down houses, what is Lagos state using the high IGR for?. Show me any major infrastructure they have built to tackle this issue since 10yrs.

Absolutely nothing!!!.

So, only people who have built houses know the right thing about houses?

Answer this question.

And ibeju-lekki land is being sold everywhere like hot cake, hope they're not selling waterways to people.
Re: ‘many Structures Will Go Down’, Lagos Blows Hot Over Flood by ElohimShenRa(m):
Na so!

Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, please concentrate on the following areas:

1.) Amuwo Odofin / Festac / Ajegunle

2.) Ago Palace / Okota

3.) Ajao Estate

4.) Egbeda / Igando

5.) Omole Phase 1 - Ojodu

These areas are where the criminals, kidnappers, armed-robbers, terrorists & Cocaine-Traffickers who have infiltrated our land and now plotting to hijack it from us like they did in Portharcourt are clustered.

Then after some weeks, you can now beam your searchlight on Aspamda, Ladipo, Computer Village and Alaba Markets.

I did not mention anybody’s tribe or ethnicity, therefore any riff-raff that quotes me to type rubbish.

As you’re killing & obliterating them in the land of my fathers which they have tagged “No Man’s Land” ; so also must you extirpate their progenitors in their villages - where they’re drinking their adulterated palm wine and beating their hairy-gorilla-chests!

For the greater good

When structures are pulled down, about 90% of those structures are owned by Yorubas. The remaining 10% by the other ethnic groups in Nigeria.
Then maybe like 2 or 3 structures owned by a particular people that will begin to scream victimization, making the loudest noise even than the people mostly affected

And we know who the scapegoats will be....instead of arresting those who are selling the lands, and those who give building approval, and the engineers amd surveyors ........ it's the builders that will suffer.....next 3 years, all the lands will be sold again...to another set of Mugu.
