Several studies conducted over the years repeatedly warned that Lagos is sinking and could completely disappear in the next few decades due to global warming. They stated that Lagos is too close to the sea level and the rapidly melting ice of the tundra regions is increasing the sea level at a pace never seen before. To make matters worse, there has been lots of land reclamations in and around Lagos, including the Lekki peninsula and Eko Atlantic. Also, both government and the private sector have been disproportionately investing our resources on a sinking city, instead of divesting to reduce our potential losses. With the worsening floods being experienced in Lagos, is anyone still in doubt that this mega city is sinking? If the sea level continues to rise due to the melting ice, no amount of demolitions or building of canals could save Lagos. Unfortunately, we can’t control global warming and its consequences. What should Nigeria and Nigerians do now?

MrEverest:Your village will sink before Lagos sink. Which day will you ever come and carry good news, why are you always an agent of bad news. Are you living in depression and bitterness |

MrEverest:Lagos is sinking and yet you don't want to go back to your village |
| Re: Lagos Is Finally Sinking? by MrEverest(op): 2:08am On Jul 04, 2024 |
Omoawoke:Lol, my village is never at risk of sinking due to global warming. Instead of crying and being so emotional over the bitter truth, why not be proactive and try to think of possible ways to avert the looming disaster? The mentality of a typical Nigerian can be quite ridiculous. If I had posted this in forums where people with sound cognitive reasoning abound, such as Quora or Reddit, I will certainly get lots of smart responses & upvotes. But here, all you will see are emotions, tears and bigotry, and at the end no solution will be found. SMH💔 |

yarimo:Lol, I actually pity you guys suffering terribly in Lagos. I watched videos of deluges and people waddling through muddy, filthy and gut wrenching putrid floods in Lagos and almost puked 🤮. And I asked myself, how could people be living like this. It’s really sad. |

Slytiger:Stop comparing apples with oranges. Erosion can always be reclaimed, but you can’t recover any land once it’s taken over by the ocean. Go and read about the lost city of Atlantis. |

| Re: Lagos Is Finally Sinking? by SangoOlukosoOba(m): 3:32am On Jul 04, 2024 |
New York and Florida are sinking too! It’s not peculiar to Lagos alone. Coastal cities have been experiencing same trend. |
| Re: Lagos Is Finally Sinking? by MrEverest(op): 3:42am On Jul 04, 2024 |
Difrent:You’re right, but that’s why we need to start relocating assets from Lagos to the hinterlands. But instead, Tinubu is rather moving them from Abuja and other places to Lagos. |

MrEverest:Oga, the lost city of Atlantis is a fictional piece first used by Pluto in his works. Stop all these scaremongering. https://www.quora.com/Is-there-really-a-lost-city-of-Atlantis https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantis |
| Re: Lagos Is Finally Sinking? by Slytiger: 3:58am On Jul 04, 2024 |
MrEverest:And who said land reclamation is not possible for coastal cities too? Even Lagos is reclaiming and adding new land. E.g. Eko Atlantic city. You are not educated.

Omoawoke:This is fact you guys hate to hear, even as a corper in Lagos when we went for seminar at LBS we were lectured on the same issue, this is fact you guys always use propaganda to cover including Lagos state government, many international media have warned about this including CNN and BBC, demolishing people houses will not solve the issue. |

Lol, it’s funny when you see a completely uneducated and ignorant person trying to argue about something he knows nothing about. Is the coastal area of China and those other places at sea level? If a place lies well above sea level, they can easily reclaim their waterfronts because their interior acts as a buffer but whereas your interior is already at sea level, how will you do it? At what cost? How feasible? You want to compare Lagos with China with all their resources and technology ![]() Rivers flow from hinterland into the sea/ocean for a reason and not vice versa. Slytiger: |
| Re: Lagos Is Finally Sinking? by Slytiger: 4:06am On Jul 04, 2024 |
MrEverest:Yes.... they are at sea level in China. Ps. Lagos is sinking but Lagos is at the same time creating new land. Lol. However 70% of Anambra is gone. Oti lo😂

| Re: Lagos Is Finally Sinking? by MrEverest(op): 4:11am On Jul 04, 2024 |
Lol, the Mumu is talking about Eko Atlantic. You’re reclaiming when the existing one is already sinking? Even the Atlantic sometimes surge into Ahmadu Bello way and flood everywhere. But you think as the ocean level continues to rise, it won’t eventually swallow Lagos? Common sense is truly not common to some people. |
| Re: Lagos Is Finally Sinking? by ANSMEDIA: 4:14am On Jul 04, 2024 |
Slytiger:Keep fooling yourself, please can you mention one village not town just village in Anambra state that has been engulfed by erosion that's not habitable now in the state |
| Re: Lagos Is Finally Sinking? by MrEverest(op): 4:20am On Jul 04, 2024 |
Lol, continue deceiving yourself. You know more than the scientists that stated how Lagos is sinking and would eventually disappear under the ocean ![]() You know more than all the reputable international media including CNN, Economist, VOA etc that have reported it severely ![]() Continue fooling yourself 😆😆 Slytiger: |
| Re: Lagos Is Finally Sinking? by MrEverest(op): 4:22am On Jul 04, 2024 |
ANSMEDIA:These people are quite ridiculous. How they turn everything upside down, including glaring facts need to be studied. Propaganda can’t save them on this one because facts speak louder. |
| Re: Lagos Is Finally Sinking? by Bulldozer90: 5:24am On Jul 04, 2024 |
Slytiger:jarkata in Indonesia is almost gone. The country has found a new capital. If Lagos was the capital of a sane country, they would be looking for a new capital now as a result predicted erosion by the sea level. But Lagos is the Yorubaman's UK. It's an emotional thing for them. |
| Re: Lagos Is Finally Sinking? by efembaba(m): 6:57am On Jul 04, 2024 |
Is Lagos the only city experiencing the effect of global warming in the world? Is Lagos the only city close to the ocean? |
| Re: Lagos Is Finally Sinking? by Slytiger: 7:06am On Jul 04, 2024 |
ANSMEDIA:Anambra 1st son. I was not the one that wrote the report that 70% of Anambra is gone..Take the issue up with your commission of environment instead of you wasting energy on Nairaland. 70% of Anambra is gone. No propaganda can change that.

Thanks but that's shouldn't be your worry. You should worry more about how you're gonna 'evacuate' your stuffs and relocate your properties back to your equally sinking Anambra Lagos shouldn't be your worry Don't cry more than the bereaved |
