Removing tax of food importation is not going to fix anything, it will plunge the country further into deeper mess, invest with private firm that produce crop, give then loan nd land , weekly progress report from rhe private firm farm report through open source online, everyone can have access to the report, the idea of sharing money with un known small farmer should be discourage..farming is a serious bizness...this idea to criticize govt without good suggestion, na we Nigerian go suffer am..Nairalander pls lets come up with a better soln for this govt, no one knows it all, from my observation atleast this govt dey listen wankind
what you are proposing how is it different from what the Govt have tried esp. under Buhari huh
What was Buhari intention to shut down borders and place ban on most imported food items If not to promote Local production ... 8yrs down the line any progress
The big Farms we have, prefer to export than even sell here locally ... it is complicated than theories & what should be

With the alarming rate of Inflation, the best approach is govt should open land borders and lift ban on grains on a short term until govt find a lasting solution to farmers insecurity

Land borders will ease the pressure on dollar demand/importation
Land borders importation will checkmate hoarding and market forces cabal operation
Land borders will reduce South dependants on North, as competition will crash prices

Removing tax/duties on importation will bring some relieve no doubts .. e go even reduce smuggling

.....u shld know is not oli nigeria dat is facing food crisis, our neighbouring country too are face with same bt at a lower level, we need to curb this food crisis from the root, just as i suggested farming is a serious bizness, their should be weekly report on big crop farm government gives interevntions to, this weekly report shoukd be open source i.e readily avaliable online for all to access, as per harvest, grains shld be sold to feed miller for poultry and fish feed produxtion directly , we are talking of large hectares of land , the private firm over time could be listed by the investment bank on share sales, for this to happen to build public comfidence the weekly report must be open source...with this the government can then control price of grains, a department in ministry of agriculture shld be created for this purpose..maybe named National Food Securtiy

Shouldn't govt officials be ashamed that we have gotten to this point of removing taxes on imported maize BECAUSE WE CANT GO TO OUR OWN FARMS?

They dare not do it. It’s chess game tinubu admin is playing against his northern enemies elrufai and co.

Tinubu knows Norther farmers and Dangote will loose heavily if borders are open to food.

He is also using the release of Nandi Kanu to threatening the north. Elrufai will have no option but to cooperate with tinubu else Nnamdi Kanu will be resealed.

Nigerians don’t even know what is going on. It’s just chess game. They can’t lift tariffs on food. Tinubu dare not do it

Even an Agric power like China and USA are importing foods. They also export. There is no harm in importing foods so far you can export your own.

Nigerian farmers are producing but exporting it, so citizens are left stranded.

If you admit other nations around are facing food crisis at lower level then you know they are liberty to supplement nigeria .. emphasis on "supplement"

From all indicationson the govt/securities forces are yet to find the best possible approach to curb insecurity however when are still busy racking their cocoanut head ... Nigeria is almost slipping away into major crisis ... a call for Emergency & short term measures to bring relieve.

As per your suggestion, what we need is not govt bankrolling or spoon feeding farmers ... Creating an enabling environment via policies, tax relieves and above all good Security is enough .. i might make it concised but all these takes long period esp. with the state of Nigeria and time is what we don't have
All these public announcement and update you think govt will want to bear that kind of cost cheesy is it really feasible considering naija govt nature
Bro we don't need govt controlling prices tew artificial, the best control is "competition and abundances" .. make they open land border and lift ban on grains & oil today i assure you before month end prices will crash so bad you will think dangote trailer bashed it

You are not in synch with reality.

Most cassava, palm products, tomatoes are bought by tomato paste factories.

Ask someone who is into agriculture…not 1 plot of land agriculture.

Tomato paste factories abroad or what?
The same oil palm that we import 60% of local demand?
See be real... we import too much of food items that we can easily grow and now we are adding maize to that... that is embarrassing apart from adding to unemployment and $ demand..
