Gazelles and pronghorn antelopes are the second fastest land animals reaching 97 - 105 km/hr.
Science believe that Cheetahs constantly preying on Gazelles caused the evolutionary trend of gazelles to evolve speed which in turn caused the cheetahs to evolve faster speeds.
For instance, Cheetahs evolved long tails that acts like the rudder of an airplane to cope with gazelle's increasing speed. With this tail a cheetah can mimic and replicate gazelles's doggedness and sudden changes in direction of travel without losing speed.

Cheetahs and Jaguars are the two big cats that can be tamed like house cats. It's like asking if a dog is harmless to humans. I think it depends on who owns the dog. Your own dog is virtually harmless to you no matter how big and powerful it is, but to a stranger, we know the full story.

I think you meant to say the time it uses for high speed chase during hunts, they constantly reduce their speed (decelerate) to avoid burning from the inside out.
