And in your head, Calabar falls under the East if you're going by the four cardinal points? There's sadly so much idiocy in the Nigerian social system.
Am not sure u are even from calabar might be just an imposter calabar guys I have met don't sound like this u are just too toxic and vague.

Waste of funds. Like the first person already elaborated, we don't have the spending population that will make this profitable.

These governors and white elephant projects are like Siamese twins
But Nigerians are going abroad for tourism

Any Calabar guy you have met who is docile enough to sit and watch you make nonsense of his origin story is either a weakling or too stupid to have countered you with realistic facts.

And you're sadly deprived of intelligence if you perceive my mental grit to be toxicity and vagueness. And for that, I owe you not an ounce of apology.

So much for your boisterous ululations of being educated. Such a sordid receptacle of vomit-inducing mental garbage!

Your brain is completely dead.
You don't have spending population for Tinapa but you have million going to Caribbean Dubai Doha etc
the problem with people like you is that you always think that you're intelligent. Less than 0.002% of the population are the people you're using to judge over 200ml people? In a country with over 120ml living in multi dimensional poverty. Minimum wage of 30,000 is what someone will use to go to vacation in Calabar?

Do you know the amount of people who will benefit if the funds being wasted there is channeled to education and proper skills acquisition?

People like you will see Lekki Lagos and then assume everyone in Lagos are rich and well to do.

A poor country with extremely poor masses like Nigeria has no business building resorts like this. What we need is to draw as much people out of poverty as you can. It's after we have defeated poverty and created wealth that we should then allow private investors to drive such projects

Son, you’re seriously disgracing your parents and making it seem like all their efforts to educate you, all turned to waste.

“Laying claims to Calabar”? Like WTF is that supposed to mean? Educating you about basic geography now means laying claims to Calabarhuh Tinubu has really done a terrible job of raising hordes of bigots without common sense nor education. Even if you’re a Yoruba boy who hasn’t left ogbomosho all his life, does it also deprive you the opportunity of reading atlas or even checking maps on google?

Then again, the DUMB boy says Calabar is in Southern Nigeria. Does Calabar bring in Southern Nigeria mean it can’t be in South Eastern Nigeria?? Is Lagos, Enugu, Onitsha, P.H, Ibadan etc. not in Southern Nigeria??

You would do yourself a great favour by getting away from Nairaland and going back to primary school. And that’s me being 100% honest with you.

BoldBrainz:
You're pained because I'm depriving your greed of the benefit of laying claims to Calabar and I like how miserable that makes you feel.

You're an idiot of immeasurable heights if you think any proper Cross Riverian will sit on his/her hands while you discombobulate our very existence to suit your self-centered agenda.

Calabar is in the Southern region of Nigeria. Go and die if it irks you that much! Iguana!

Tinapa was meant to fail and we keep failing not because it's a bad project na it's a fantastic project

The issue is Nigerians don't have the "business" Population to make it profitable

3 years ago only 3.7milliom Nigerians spent 10 dollar plus per day... Now I'm sure it's below 2 million people

Going to tilapia would cost 50 dollars minimum... How many Nigerians have that to spare per capita

Calabar people would just go there to snap picture

Anyone who has done business in a mall knows the truth 70% of people just come to take pictures

Tinapa like ajokuta can't work the mistake has been made let it go

Tourism in its own, can't thrive. There are other factors that also must be combined to make tourism a big time business. It's only a low life that travels only for pleasure. The caption is work and pleasure, therefore a state that wants to capitalize from tourism should also be a working and functional state. So far on this indices, Cross River State is still far behind.
Maybe the initial intention was to float the venture with funds from crude oil till it becomes viable, but as it stands now, 22 years plus and counting Bakassi peninsula hasn't been returned with no hope in sight.
Like Ajakouta, like Tinapa, demolish that place or repurpose it completely.
No sensible businessman will throw his money away on mere fantasy.

Whether the refineries work or not; whether Nigerians are able to get 3-square meal or not; whether the federal government increases the minimum wage or not; whether there is insecurity or not, these are not Reeno Omokrii's problems. Reeno's problem is Peter Obi.

This is how you know a paid media thug.

A paid media thug doesn't concern himself with the barrage of challenges facing a nation but to troll an individual good enough to lead the people out of economic hardship

Why you mad, boy?! Your lamentations are stretching to the very crevices of this forum and it's such a sight to behold. Calabar is not "South Eastern" Nigeria. Cry some more! When you're done struggling with your identity crisis, come up with another lame epistle. I'm liking the amusement.

Bring the same TINAPA to Lagos and you will understand it will flourish. Any tourist destination in Nigeria outside Lagos, Abuja - it will mostly fail. In international bulletins, other regions in Nigeria are regarded as unsafe. That's why Lagos receives millions of visitors every year, and most of them never get to step foot outside Lagos, except Abuja.

I'm from the South South which is not even the best way to describe a geographical location but let's leave that aside, Cross River is more Eastern then the Igbo states, can't you see it? They were only grouped with the South South for political reason which doesn't correspond with their geographical location. I don't know why you lots justify your stupidity and ignorance publicly without shame.
Don't mind that guy!

He should pause for a second and ask himself this questions... What does South South mean?
Why don't we have North North, West West or East East since we have South South if the whole thing isn't just a political geographical system?

The name South South has absolutely nothing to do with the map!

You are not the only ignorant person online. Please keep your ignorance to yourself, do not force it down other people's throat.

It is because of people like your that intelligent journalists do not abound in Africa because when we make a publication and present information that is somewhat alien to you, instead of you to do a simple research and learn from it, the first thing you do is to ignorantly attack the author. You even had the audacity to say that I wrote nonsense.

Look at the location of Calabar on the map again before you make a mockery of yourself publicly.
Geographically speaking, Calabar, Cross River State is located in Nigeria's South East. Whatever you designate it politically does not change the location on the map.
Mr Man this is just crafty. You should know about the political nuances of Nigeria and that the South East Region as far as Nigeria is concerned doesn't include Cross-River state. Stop brewing confusion, it won't work, Ever!

I think what killed Tinapa is irresponsible federal government and its poor policies. Tinapa was an ambitious project and could have succeeded if only the federal government wasn’t antagonistic towards it.

Tinapa was conceptualized to be a free duty import and export processing zone. Maybe, a miniature Dubai of sorts to cater for West and central Africa. Yet, the federal government allowed customs, police and other agencies to literally lay siege there.

Contrary to those saying that Tinapa wasn’t viable, it actually was. I was in the university at FUTO when Tinapa was established and it became a premium tourist attraction. Most higher institutions in the East often organized excursions that lasted a couple of days at Tinapa. Corporate organizations were also doing same and also individuals. However, all these couldn’t sustain the place & make it viable because it’s actually a massive complex and required significant foreign investments and flow of goods and services as originally conceived.

I think Obasanjo failed in that and also failed when he allowed Bakassi peninsula to be taken over by Cameroun.
Wow! That is quite expository.

Where in the whole wide world have you ever seen any people doing serious tourism business with the aim of attracting only its people? Tinapa's travails have nothing to do with Nigeria's poverty. Tinapa was stolen to death and if this governor likes, let him not sell it to serious investors, his successors will still steal it to oblivion!
Not so sir a whooping lot of money is also generated from "local tourists" this easy money can be used to at least maintain the place. And due to insecurity, Nigeria is not very attractive to tourists.
