Family Crisis Associated With Women Acquisition Of Landed Properties In Nigeria by DeDonniesHomes(op): 6:14pm On Jul 12, 2024
As a realtor and real estate investor, I have consistently seen many women’s husbands go bizarre when they found that their wives acquired landed property in Nigeria.

The likely reasons are numerous (the solution depends on the unique circumstances of the woman and her family)

As usual, I will address this as sincerely as possible

1. Keeping it a secret. Most times, it heavily backfires when most women buy property in secret and leave their husbands to the surprise of their lives when they find out. While most women would receive such news joyfully, most men don’t. Subsequent points will shed more light on this.

2. One of the reasons most African men react very negatively to such findings is (probably) because she didn’t buy the landed property in the family name.

3. Another reason many men don’t take it lightly is that the African culture requires men to foot all family bills as much as possible to be seen as responsible, leaving many men with very slim bank balances after meeting these numerous needs. This makes it possible for the wives of some of these men to easily save the lump sum they invested in the landed property. So, not buying the land in the family name makes some men feel fooled. (Please note that, in some homes, the wives bear more financial burden than their husbands. But that's not the societal standard).

4. When the cost of the property compared to the man's networth is a big deal. He might not give a damn if he is already worth sooo much. He might just see it as "a wife investing her peanut".

5. Maybe a lot of African men have not yet come to terms with accepting and seeing their woman do great things. They still want them caged (financially).

The amusing thing is most African women behave in the direct opposite when their husbands buy landed properties.

What in your opinion could be the reason a lot of African men acts otherwise?

if you guys are married then a man/woman shouldnt discover the above AFTER ITS DONE. a married couple should communicate together before a wife/husband goes about to buy a property, since they are a married couple. if you only find out about such purchase AFTER ITS DONE, then there is something seriously wrong in your marriage. regardless of whose money it is, such important purchase must be discussed between spouse. any spouse who does the above is very selfish, deceitful, disrespectful/dishonest/untrustworthy and doesnt value their partner nor their family/marriage.

You have a great contribution here. But what about the general belief that "MY MONEY IS MY MONEY BUT HIS MONEY IS OURS?"

the above often happens because many people get married for the WRONG REASONS. marriage in Africa is a do or die mission, so many people often marry yeye donkeys due to family/religious/peer/social PRESSURE, therefore thats why these people are legally married but in reality they are living as if they were single. thus why so many people are cheating in marriage, thus why so many men are raising bastard children, thus why so many marriages end in divorce etc etc etc
