I hope the AGF press it on the FEC to stick to the pronouncement of the supreme court " No legitimate elected local goevernment, no FAAC allocation" Silly lot!! What stopped them from doing the right thing prior to the gavel coming down hard on the illegality. Truly, Money answereth to all things. We will all be alright. As for Local councils,It's high time they get productive with the staff , weed out the unproductive ones, recruit capable hands. Hopefully they are aware they are not shielded from immunity clause if they engage in misconduct. Viva Nigeria |

If we nigerians have truly need local government autonomy to work we should put our votes in opposite directions like if states governors is pdp all our chairman should be opposition , if states governor is apc we should vote for opposition |

immortalcrown:As long the Governors do not have the power to remove them once sworn in and the fact that they will get funds to run the LG direct from the FG, they'll be a lot of betrayals. You think the Chairmen don't have wives, friends, close associates, followers and all that? They'll be in their ears pushing them to ignore the Governor knowing that the Governor does not have the power to remove them. You will see LG chairmen teaming up to tackle Governors just the same the Governors do the President...Wait for it. |

There is no rush in RIVERS STATE. October has been announced for the elections before Supreme Court gave their verdict. |

immortalcrown:The only difference here is.. If they don't do what they are supposed to do,, the people can rise and OCCUPY THEIR OFFICES.. The people can actually make demands on them.. Right now, people cannot make any demands from LGA Chairmen.. |
| Re: LG Autonomy: 13 States Rush To Hold Council Polls by 1x2x3: 11:40am On Jul 17, 2024 |
immortalcrown:It seems you may not fully understand what autonomy means. Previously, allocations were distributed by the Governor to the Chairmen, who then decided how to spend the funds on projects. Are you suggesting that if allocations are sent directly to the Chairmen, they would still need to seek the Governor's opinion on how to spend it? A Governor who no longer controls the funds directly shouldn't be able to dictate which projects to undertake in your community. Chairmen will now be held directly accountable, so those who want to hand over their constituency allocations to the Governor can do so. However, I believe the communities will ensure these Chairmen are held responsible. |

immortalcrown:You’re very wrong and contradictory. In Nigeria, once you’re not the one funding or feeding me, I can face you, be disloyal and you can’t do anything. You can put me into position but for as long my source of funding and resources is not from you then am free from your bondage, I will do eye service for you to put me into position and change it for your later. That’s what fubara is doing to wike cos his resources and funding are not dictated by wike but the same wike controls pdp as he funds the party majorly. This is also why both lai mohammed and aregbesola dumped Tinubu once they became ministers under buhari. That’s how politics in Nigeria roll. You can only control me when you feed me. The Governors are toast on this LG autonomy, that’s why they are lamenting. For as long as the president and attorney general implement the Supreme Court ruling it’s done and dusted. |

Let the elected LG chairmen hand over the LG allocation funds to their Governors then EFCC can ask the Chairmen to explain how they spent their allocation. |

immortalcrown:You probably did not read the final verdict by the supreme court. They are free to steal or share the money with the governor as they like but, The chairman has been reminded that they dont have immunity like the governor, when EFCC comes for them, they will account for he money meant for the local government and they will not arrest the governor along. so, let them allow the governor to put them into troubles. |

The affected states will still be receiving allocations until the 3 months transition period expires. According to reports, FG gave a 3 month ultimatum for the affected states to conduct LG elections |

immortalcrown:What do you propose? No chairman will collect allocations directly from Abuja and hand it over to governor just because the gov was instrumental to him becoming a chairman. It is much more complicated than that. If he does that, people from his local govt will petition EFCC about his conduct and how is he going to explain his action to EFCC? Chairman who has no immunity. Though, there are certain ways he can be useful to gov such as supporting the gov if and when he's campaigning for re-election. You're even funny to think and believe that chairmen will receive allocations from Abuja and then forward it to the govs when they now have more financial responsibilities like pry sch teacher's salaries to be paying |
