Travelled to Benue last week, couldn't find good yam to buy. Farmers are complaining of bandits attacking them and herdsmen ravaging their farmlands. It is well naija

You are very right.

In fact farmers are travelling in cities in drove to look for jobs like security to do to feed their families, because their farms are no more secured to use

Farming yams are not cheap,the cost of production is very high.
I farmed 1000 heaps out of annoyance of why can't i point & buy yams cheaply like before....from high cost of procuring yams seedlings,manures,heaps making, staking materials, transport & logistic,grass cutting,herbicides still everything is in God's hand because it was planted late because of absent of early rain this year.
Men! Agriculture is capital intensive....it is also garbage in garbage out.

It can never be as expensive as what we're buying here. The smallest tuber is around N3,500 and you can't even price it. The seller will angrily tell you to drop it if you can't buy it

That's for the smallest yams o, medium sized yams are around 5-6k range. The biggest yams are not found anywhere except big markets and are around 7-10k range depending on your bargaining power. Most people have dropped yams from their diet for now, even sellers are no longer selling them at the moment.
