SGF, Ministers To Hold Emergency Meeting Today by adioolayi(op): 6:52am On Jul 24, 2024
The Federal Government has scheduled an emergency meeting for Wednesday (today) morning in response to a planned nationwide protest slated for August 1.

This comes after President Bola Tinubu pleaded with the organisers to shelve the protests and give his administration more time to execute people-oriented programmes.

A circular shared with The PUNCH on Tuesday by sources with knowledge of the meeting indicated that all the ministers, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume and the Special Advisers to the President on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala-Usman; Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga and former Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, were among those invited for the meeting.

The circular, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Affairs Office, Richard Pheelangwah, dated July 23, 2024, was titled, ‘Planned Nationwide Protest.’

It read, “I am directed to invite you to attend a meeting with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on the above subject slated as follows: July 24, 2024, Time: 10 am prompt, Venue: Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Conference Room.

“Attendance is mandatory. Please, accept the warm regards of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.”

The planned session is coming amid the clamour for nationwide protests from August 1 over the rising cost of living and the economic hardship in the country, which has blamed on the removal of fuel subsidy, the floating of the naira and other economic reforms implemented by the Tinubu administration.

Let's be patient
Re: SGF, Ministers To Hold Emergency Meeting Today by EyeCumInPiece:
Nobody should be denied right to protest. That's one of the fundamental rights of citizens.

If Tinubu was in the mold of a great leader, you will see him come out on live TV and deliver a powerful speech (not pre-recorded) on the current situation, and back it up with immediate actions and people go calm down small.

But instead, even if he comes out, he will end up licking microphone and talking balablu bulaba. grin

If he can't achieve anything in one year, is it in one century he will achieve it?

That's how you guys started with Buhari, telling us to give him more time, na so we take waste good 8 years for nothing. Never again will that happen!

A regional self acclaimed "master strategist" took Nigeria from bad to worst just in a year you're saying we should give him more time. More time to wreck more havoc, bah? undecided

A failure is a failure even if you give him 50 years. Tinubu is a classic example of a clueless president
Re: SGF, Ministers To Hold Emergency Meeting Today by adioolayi(op):
I strongly think President Tinubu needs to address the Nation..

Talk to Nigerians and tell us what you are doing...

Make examples of those who seems to be sabotaging efforts if economic recovery, like that other NMDPRA boss that said nonsense against Dangote Refinery...ask them why they are exporting crude when they have not met local demands..when they know having refined products locally will help our economy.....sack and suspend ministers, top government officials that are not upto the tasks...

Give us timelines ...when we will beging to see the direct positive impacts of subsidy removal

There will be no protests in Nigeria.

Only hoodlums will come and they'll be arrested with arms.

Re: SGF, Ministers To Hold Emergency Meeting Today by DMerciful(m): 7:12am On Jul 24, 2024
Tinubu waited until the frustration got to the point of no return before attempting to act but too late!

Yes so no protest, you're the coordinator and the pay master of the southwest to have said this.
He achieved a lot in the past one year and some of them are:
1. Increasing the pump price of PMS.
2. Destroying the Naira to achieve his windfall tax
3. Over 100 millions cars for the lawmakers
4. Increasing the hardship
Do you still need more

Since you have a special economy in your own part of the southwest, you won't love the protest.

The fear of arewa youth protest in the beginning of wisdom for Bulabo
Re: SGF, Ministers To Hold Emergency Meeting Today by Lovenorth:
For the protest not to hold, Tinubu should do the following today:
1. Reverse the subsidy removal to its previous price and ask all his cabinet members to resign immediately.
2. Reverse the floating of Naira to its previous value.
3. Open boarder without time limit for aggressive food importantion.
4. Reverse the astronomical increments of salaries of judges and other political office holders including himself,
5. Reverse electricity tariff and reverse increase in registration fees of the university students. If these are done, without meeting with anybody, the protest will naturally die
