Peter Obi, Alex Otti Differ On August 1st Planned Protest (Photos) by fergie001(mod):
Obi paid a courtesy visit to the Abia State Governor in his home

Peter Obi: On the issue of protest, within the Nigerian Constitution protest is allowed. All I plead is for those who are protesting to do so within the law and in a civil manner that allows us as a nation to show that we live within the law.

Everybody knows that things are difficult, I always say when they talk about sponsors of the protest, they are hunger, hopelessness among the youths so we all must have to listen to what Nigerians are going through.

What I will say to security Agencies is that they must do all to manage the situation again within the law. They should not try to be overbearing, it's something they must have to do within the law, there is nothing wrong with protest. Protest is allowed everywhere globally and I ask myself, people protest in my house and it's for us to listen to those who are protesting.

Why are they protesting, engage them that's what governance is all about. You talk with them. I was Governor for eight (cool years and people protested.
Alex Chioma Otti: It will be very very unfair to say things are not difficult, things are very difficult, hunger is real but how so you solve the problem?

The problem we find ourselves in the country today is economic and will I say we are actually paying the price for bad governance that didn't start today. First of all, for you to organize protest the law requires that you get approval from the security forces, particularly the Police and somebody should take responsibility for getting that approval.

So, if you don't have the approval, then it will be against the law for you to go out on the streets to protest. So my final word is that people should think about the implications of pouring out on the streets and restricting movement of other people on the streets and possibly inflicting harm and more hardship on the people.

For people in Abia, my advice is that people should not pour out on the streets because it may be more hurtful than the reason for the protest people are calling for.

Peter Obi is just looking for attention again; he doesn’t understand the meaning of unity in action. Otti knows better than to follow this unserious game.

Not only is this statement not according to the Constitution, it also undermines the concept of freedom. If Nigerians have freedom to gather and protest but are to first report the expression of said freedom to the authorities for what i believe is for approval of some sort, then are Nigerians really free to protest? undecided

Some foolish human beings are saying give Tinubu time. Time to do what exactly? Give an 86 years old man with dementia time to do what exactly? Do Nigerians really think at all? Na so Buhari take waste 8 years of our collective destiny.

Gov Alex Otti is wrong.

You don't need any sort of approval to engage in peace assembly or protest. It is a fundamental right
Re: Peter Obi, Alex Otti Differ On August 1st Planned Protest (Photos) by Salewa97: 2:46pm On Jul 28, 2024
These two are just playing to the gallery.

While Obi is busy trying to prove he's still relevant, Otti is simply trying to ride the wave of popularity. Both of them will end up achieving nothing significant.

Obi's protest will be another flop, just like his presidential ambition. When will he learn that shouting on the streets doesn't equate to real change?

If he spent half the energy he uses for protests on actual governance when he had the chance, maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess. Protesting won't change the fact that he lost the election.

This man knows how to deceive his followers knowingly fully well they don't use their brains as God expects of them to use it. How can someone under whom the workers in the most critical sector of health would say he dialogued with protesters when you coul not prevent them from going on strike for more than one year

This is a mischievous comparisons.
Atiku spoke about the protest, nobody compared his statement with any PDP governor, nobody did same to Kwankwaso's statement with the NNPP governor. But when its comes to Obi they'll start running from pillar to post on how to vilify him.

I think it's just a mix-up, you do not need any approval or permit to hold any assembly or protest, it's a fundamental right however, it is instructive to inform the police for protection.

Kobojunkiee:
The man says that the law requires it. What are you playing at? undecided
He was obviously wrong.
Police protection is for the protest not to be hijacked by hoodlums because when that happens the Governor is empowered to quell it by any means necessary.

Mods, why have you refused to move Kenneth Okonkwo dumping of LP and Peter Obi to FP?
Clearly, Obi does not have the necessary power to rig himself into office if necessary is what Okonkwo pretty much said. So, why is that news? undecided

No. That's not it. The Koko of his letter was well summarized here 👇👇👇

raskymonojendor:
Summary: Peter Obi lacks leadership skills, and he (Kenneth Okonkwo) has NO confidence in him (Peter Obi) to build a party that can wrestle power from APC or PDP.

Obi and Otti disagreeing on the protest is just another display of their political theatrics. It's clear they both want to be the loudest voice in a room filled with empty promises. While they bicker, the real issues facing Nigerians are left unaddressed. It's all a show to distract us from their failures.

Peter Obi is just trying to ride on the coattails of Alex Otti's popularity.

This is the same man who couldn't unify his own supporters when it mattered most. Protests without clear direction only lead to chaos. If he really cared about the issues, he would have been more proactive during his tenure as governor instead of waiting for others to lead the charge. It's easy to talk tough when you're not in the hot seat.
