It's very ppossible. The Original seller(OS) is familiar with the scammer as a possible client and gives dispatcher scammers phone number.

When dispatchers gets to destination, he calls scammer, who he has his number. Scammer calls you that "his" dispatcher just arrived at your destination and may insist once you confirm goods, pay to him directly.

You go out to meet the dispatcher who doesn't know you in person, check the consignment and call scammer. Now 2 things can happen: 1. Dispatcher may want to talk to his oga and find out you were about to get scammed and bust the bubble. Scammer loses. 2. Dispatcher is indifferent to what is going on, scammer wins.
4 persons are involved: Seller, Despatcher, Scammer & Buyer.

The Despatcher has only the Scammer's number but thinks it's the Buyer's number.

The Buyer only has the Scammer's number (as the Seller).

The Despatcher & the Buyer don't have each other's number.
So the Scammer will stay in another location & be trying to link up the Despatcher with the Buyer.
It doesn't work that way.

In reality the Buyer & the Despatcher will be calling each other to meet in a designated place. Not that they will be linked up by someone else.

So how will the Despatcher identify the Buyer if he is not physically seeing him answering the phone as he is calling his number (Scammer's number)? That's already a red flag.

Even if they cross that huddle, the Buyer will make transfer in the Despatcher's presence. There is no way the Despatcher will be watching him make transfer without interrupting him to show him the Seller's real bank details.

Even the tag on the parcel will contain the Buyer's Name but the Scammer's Number instead of the Buyer's Number.
The whole thing doesn't look realistically possible.

I get your point now but the scam is still not possible.

Glad you understand now.
You have a point but concerning the issue of recognition and location. All the scammer has to do is confirm where the meet up will be with the dispatch rider and pass that information to the buyer. He'll also describe the despatch rider to the buyer and the buyer to the despatch rider. Concerning the issue of payment, the only way it wouldn't work out is if the dispatch rider provides the account information.

You are not factoring in the role negligence will play. The possibility of occurrence is low not zero.

The best thing to do is to get the account to transfer to from the delivery man and not the seller on the phone . Only pay to the account given to you by the delivery man you are with and everything will be fine because he brought the goods and brought the right account number.

Even this one too sounds somehow. So you mean someone that can make it to the supposed store to buy something worth 500k will not ask once inside the store after inspecting the phone or laptop that he is there to get it and has been chatting with the owner. You mean someone that can physically get to the store will not interrogate the people he met at the store about this awoof deal he sealed?

If there are people like that this even sounds dumber than dumb. Not logical at all
Exactly. Very dumb. I've experienced this with at least 2 persons and several of my colleagues have experienced such.
Greed is a huge factor here on the part of the buyer.
Nigerians can be funny at times

I don't think it's easy to pull this scam.
The delivery man has instructions & details of how payment will be made, which he will present to the Buyer after delivering the product.

Infact the scam is not possible.
The SCAMMER must forward the BUYER'S phone number & address to the SELLER. Then the SELLER gives that info to the DESPATCHER.

&Before the SELLER sends the product, he must call the BUYER to confirm the order.

Once the SCAMMER calls for payment, the BUYER will immediately see it's a different number & person from the SELLER.

Abeg dis na cooked up story to trend on SM.

not cooked. It has happened to me before. I was the buyer. It was the person that ordered the phone that called the dispatch rider to release the phone to me. That one thought it was the seller that called. I ordered the phone from a seller who wasn’t the original seller, she also ordered it elsewhere and linked me up with the dispatch rider. I paid the girl thinking she was d seller and she called order to release phone to me.

So it's best to transfer the cost of the item to the dispatch rider angry

1. You mean a Despatcher delivered a phone to you & you made payment to someone else in his presence?

2. Didn't the Despatcher present payment details to you after you received the phone?

3. So what was he doing while you were making payment?

4. The Despatcher is supposed to deliver to the phone contact on the order. Didn't he suspect foul play that that phone contact was not you, but someone else linking him up to you?

5. Wasn't it odd to you that the Despatcher did not have your phone number?

6. Why didn't you demand for the Despatcher's number so it would be easier to link up with him? Instead someone else calling you & calling the Despatcher to link both of you up. How did you even identify the Despatcher who is supposed to be a stranger?

7.&Before making transfer in the presence of the Despatcher, didn't you ask him if he would receive sms alert to confirm payment?

Note: the normal procedure is
1. Despatcher arrives & calls you to come pick up your phone.
2. Both of you communicate over phone to meet at a designated place.
3. You collect the phone & check it out. All OK.
4. The Despatcher presents payment details.
5. You make payment. Finish
Anything outside this, should alert you or the Despatcher of foul play.

the lady sent account number already. We’ve been chatting. So I only insist I’ll check the phone and receipt before payment. Does that answer your questions? The fault was still with the rider but seems the girl was very smart or diabolical
