Nigeria Police Force Restricts Over 4,000 Bank Accounts by ricardovincente(op):
I am speaking for a credible evidence which I have in my possession, and I feel the need to bring this to the notice of the generals public. Over my years in practice, I have been involved with matters of bank account restriction by the police but bot like the latest info I have.

The Nigeria Cybercrime Center of the police by a court order secured on the 19th of May 2024 (court name withheld), secured an order of the court that directed almost all banks in Nigeria to restrict the bank accounts of over four thousand persons and companies. The bitter part about it is that they get the order directing the banks to also release the confidential banking information of these people to the police, inclusive of their GSM Numbers and Addresses, and in all the matters I have handled, the police will never contact you, not for an invitation to say the least.

They therefore leave this people miserable and confused, most with no idea of that the case might be. Another grave issue is that most banks will never release the copy of the bank order to the person affected to allow them challenge the order lawfully, which raises a suspicion of a conspiracy. Yes!!! I have legal correspondences to that effect, especially with guaranteed trust bank plc. They are the greatest culprit.

Anyways, if you fall in this position, contact a lawyer to help you challenge the restriction in court because the restriction order is usually granted by a court with no jurisdiction to issue such order.

I feel the moderator should move this to front page. Over 4,000 people are presently locked out of access to their funds in this serious economic situation of the country and this is my way of rendering them a pro bono service. Let them take it up with their lawyers. They certainly will WIN!!! 100%.

One more thing, I am sure most of them are connected to binance trading.

Please kindly share proof. If this is true, I doubt that the court order will be obtained by the police wink

This is the front and last page of the court order. A total of 4,341 persons/companies. Their names are listed as the 34th Respondent to the application as page 1. I have given enough. They can approach the court to challenge it lawful. If a restriction needs to be placed, it has to be done in accordance with the law.

I will be sharing my petition against GTBANK to CBN soon. I have a lot to say about how they handle matters of their customers account restriction with so much bias.

Very interesting. Please kindly follow-up with your bank directly.

It used to be CBN that secure the court order so having the IGP come in now means there's now a suspected criminal angle to the activities of the owners of the bank account.

OP is a Lawyer and this is advertisment.
Banks have obligations to obey court orders and the Police did the right thing by seeking court orders before blocking a bank account. What's the issue here and why are you being specific about GT for obeying court orders.
You can advertise your business without dragging others who duly obey a court order

I do not need such brief. It is the most hectic. However, I understand people just give whatever idea runs through their mind in the guise of commenting, and as for you, I guess you are a police officer, So I will ask you this few questions;

1.) Will you keep quiet and let injustice fly because it is not your business, of will you just give the position and allow those suffering from the predicament have a clear path to LAWFULLY challenge it.

2.) Is it right for the police to approach a court of no jurisdiction for the grant of an order to restrict bank accounts, despite several court judgments that state otherwise.

3.) As a sequel to number 2 above, is it fair for the police to restrict ones bank account all the way from Abuja without deeming it fit to contact such persons for investigation purposes?

Do not forget, everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Also, the position of the law is that it is better to let 10 guilty man walk free than to allow one innocent man suffer for a crime he did not commit.

So stop being a hypocrite. Yes!, the police does good jobs in protecting and preventing us against crime, but what is bad is bad. Getting an order from a court of no jurisdiction is totally unfair. Which brings me to my final question;

4.) Does it appeal to you for a lawyer to keep quiet in matters where he sees as unlawful and unfair to the masses, or to speak?

The fact that the police locked their bank accounts does not mean they committed any crime. You are wrong on that. Perhaps if you experience this once and understand the high cost of resolving the issue, you will understand better.

Locking my bank account without any information on where it came from or how to go about it, other than directing me to the police or arresting me, is so wrong. Do not forget this is Nigeria. Yes we may have lots of criminals among them, but what about the innocent ones. Probably, Some of them would be in the dark now on how to go about it or where to go, and I am certain this post will help a few. Even a lawyer might not know how to unravel the mystery, cause it is a mystery unless you can unravel the source.

So, Let the police do what is right, and let all criminals be prepared to face the consequences of their actions. It is as simple as that.

What's this fuss about.. these are fraud related accounts hence the restrictions to aid investigations. Do you know how many people get defrauded on a daily basis in this country. Do you have an idea the discomfort those defrauded go through.. I'm sure these fraudulent accounts would run into over 10,000 if the agencies check very well..

All accounts found to have been willfully used for fraudulent activities should be siezed and the money confiscated unreturned by the CBN.

Soldier (hmmm)
Policeman (hmmm)
Many, many, many, many men (hmmm) ...(singing in Chris Brown's voice)

Wait till he shares his business card or whatever. We all hide behind the keyboard and press what our minds tell us to. I believe you should be a policeman.

Anyways, we may never see the end of this but we can see what happens in our polity

Don’t mind him. He was obviously speaking from a selfish perspective. How can I have an information that will help over 4,000 people and keep quiet simply because it doesn’t affect me? 4,000 people have been placed at the mercy and discretion of the police and have no other option than to submit themselves to an arrest before they can have any idea of the reason for the restriction placed on their bank accounts. Haba!!! People should fear God. So what will be the position of the courts? Why do we have them if we cannot seek redress? .

Some people are just so unbelievable. All he could deduce from the whole thread is that I am a lawyer and I am seeking a brief.. lol. That is all his mature self could put together from it.

I pity him. He is carrying a burden that would probably be a hindrance to his progress in life. When you cannot decipher or analyse matters objectively, you are bound for failure!!!
