Apart From State Capitals,The Rest Of SouthWest Looks Depressing-Tinubu’s Aide by mohbadliveson(op): 8:31am On Jul 29, 2024
Dr. Tope Fasua, the Special Adviser to The President on Economic Matters (Office of the Vice President) has advocated the need for the urgent creation of the South West Development Commission.

President Bola Tinubu last week signed into law bills creating the North West Development Commission (NWDC) and the South East Development Commission (SEDC).

In a post on his Facebook page, Fasua said aside the state capitals in the South-West that look beautiful, other parts of the region are depressing.

He also frowned at the popular slang 'Ebi n Pawa ( We Are Hungry) saying it shouldn't be a popular cliche in the South-West.

"If i count how many times they've given out rice and cash and how many initiatives to assuage poverty? Seems it's so deep among some people. SW people must be careful lest we become the symbols of poverty and hunger".

"Ebinpawa should not be a fad. Na we sabi English. Na we sabi go London. Rather than develop our lands and villages, we will invest in America, and we run away from ourselves. Thats what we see today".

"They have approved South East Devt Commission. go to south east and see where they are already. apart from state capitals, the rest of southwest looks depressing. we need SOUTH WEST DEVT COMMISSION urgently too. No pride about it".

Tinubu's aide is spot on! The development in the South West is long overdue, and it's great to see the administration acknowledging the need for growth beyond just the capitals. It's time to uplift every corner of the region and make it thrive!

I quite agreed with you on such Commission,,like life on dey happen in most of th SW capital state even the state governments always neglected other regions of the state while they're in ruin and only the projects been carried on in the capital making life so hard and unbearable for people living there,,major causes of rural-urban migration causing overpopulation.Majorly people believed one can only make it in the Cities

I wonder what the Children of falling demon will say now that the truth is coming out from one of their own.

Travel and see other rejoin development you said no that you will be claiming Lagos as your state leaving Osun state where you come from to rust.

Last month I traveled inside Osun State village for my friend's child dedication, I couldn't breath fresh air. Air was polluted with waste product and rotten cassava smell, everywhere bush.

That's the truth. Development is key, and it's high time we focus on uplifting all regions, not just the capitals. Tinubu's vision should extend to every corner of the Southwest.

This man is speaking the truth. I am passionately and proudly Yoruba. Most, especially IPOB louts, can testify to that here.

Nonetheless, I am about human progress, first and foremost, before any blind allegiance to ethnicity. Yorubas need to do more, in terms of joint political and administrative cooperation, to develop our hinterlands.

The condition of most of our rural areas and villages is deplorable and what the author of the article says, shown below, is entirely correct.

DAWN initiative addressed this issue and provided a workable template to develop the entire SW as one geographical zone. Why we abandoned DAWN's well-researched suggestion remains a mystery to me.

Na we sabi English. Na we sabi go London. Rather than develop our lands and villages, we will invest in America, and we run away from ourselves. Thats what we see today".

I agree. I think the SW still needs to get her most innovate and most productive solutions-providers into office as Governors.

That will make a massive difference in the fortunes of States and, by extension, the whole SW region.

I hear Tunji-Ojo wants to be governor of Ondo in future. Such an ambition I will support passionately as he is showing capacity for innovative thinking and hardwork plus the talent for productive multi-tasking with the dexterity to apply directly needed solutions.

SW still needs a much better generation of leaders. Dapo Abiodun and Davido's Uncle, for example, have no business being Governors.

Indeed. It isn't rocket science but the major issue is that the monetisation of politics, to the detriment of meritorious emergence of the best leaders, is still a big issue in the SW.

Known/famous name, wealth and societal status should not be criteria for Parties to use in deciding who to give sell their Governship ticket to.

It has created a culture whereby those not meritoriously fit to be Governor, Like Adeleke and Dapo Abiodun, consistently trash other far better candidate to emerge governors of their respective States.

This is the major problem the SW is facing. If we had a truly meritocratic system in place, that enabled the best to be Governors of SW States, then we do not need a development commision that will be a waste of time, money and effort when fit Governors can simply partner themselves homogeneously to define the SW a a nation within a nation.

This is a wake-up call for all of us. The reality on ground is tough, but we can't ignore the potential for growth in the Southwest. Oga Tinubu has a vision, and it's time to roll up our sleeves and support initiatives that will uplift the regions beyond the capitals.

Investment in infrastructure and development will turn things around. Let’s hold our leaders accountable and push for real change. We need to see action, not just talk. The future of the Southwest depends on our collective efforts to transform these areas. Let's get to work!

The south east is where it is today not because of the recently established SEDC or government, but individual efforts. Is he expecting the South West Development Commission to embark on demolition and rebuilding of houses in those areas. The major eyesore are the old houses which can only change when there is extra money in the hands of the people. I reside in one of the capitals (Akure), and it's a surprise to even see some houses built with mud, just plastered with cement.

I thought some people on here said that the SW is highly developed; the London of Nigeria.
That it is SS/SE that is not developed and is/are barren land?

So, why am I seeing some comments above agreeing to what the aide said?

So, all these "go back to your region and develop it to be like SW" na wash?

Yoruba Ronu
SW is not as bad as that
The major challenge is Nigeria as structurally arranged stifles real development. I see one dude wailing there over how govs emerge in SW. He mentioned Dapo Abiodun. Who were those who backed him for gov? How did he get the alias eleyi?
The fact is that as long as you have a centralisation of pwr and influence in the hands of those who want power just to satisfy their selfish ego, independent thought dies.
DAWN couldn't see the dawn of the day because all eyes were on Lagos to be the main driver. As it didn't happen, all man for himself.

Lol. You "see one dude" ba? Shameful. If you want to be a coward who cannot address others directly, and prefer to be throwing shades like women catfighting, then don't expect others to take you seriously.

Quote people directly if you have issues with their utterances and let them defend what they wrote.

Your cowardly style is beneath sincerity.

This is just the beginning of a new era for the South West.

With Tinubu at the helm, we are bound to see transformation even in the most overlooked areas. Let’s give our president the chance to turn the tide, because every nook and cranny deserves a facelift!

The real change starts now!

you shouldn't have waited for others to get a development commission before you start telling the truth .

Pls the south east people are not happy with the way their place look presently including all the state capitals

I agree with this talk and will add the proviso that only the meritoriously fittest candidates must be supported to gain power from political Party level.

That is a gauranteed template for the consistent and interdependent development of every nook and cranny of the SW.

I hope they won't later say that SE towns and villages were developed by the SEDC? It is on record that our villages were already developed through individual efforts before the SEDC of a thing came

Bro, let's be honest. No region needs a development commission, glorified duplication of roles in my opinion, to secure development if the right leaders were elected into office to begin with. What has the NDDC achieved for the SS to date?

What duplication of offices and effort did Awolowo engage in when he achieved so much for the SW in the past with others partnering him?

The author of the article has already identified the problem. The most meritoriously fit of candidates have fled the house and left it to rodents we all know can only destroy rather than build anything.

It is left to all regions of Nigeria to try and find a way to support the best into office as a way of developing Nigeria optimally.

Na we sabi go London. Rather than develop our lands and villages, we will invest in America, and we run away from ourselves. Thats what we see today".

I always tire when I talk with Yoruba people and they always think their region is the best in Nigeria,to the average Yoruba man the rest of Nigeria is just bush and huts, only Lagos and southwest is where human beings live, but I noticed the travelled ones know better

I remember when my friend wanted to come with me for my grandfather’s burial,he was asking me if we had light,tv etc in my town
He later came and refused to leave
