RECAP: August Nationwide Protest, My Final Case For An Interim Government by Bebigiby1(op): 7:01pm On Jul 31, 2024
I made this post earlier today and it was deleted for no reason by Nairaland. I’ve always advocated for a progressive Nigeria and any post I make on Nairaland was made towards advancing national progress, nothing more. I did not join Nairaland to spread any propaganda as I am not a supporter of Obi, Atiku, Tinubu or iPOB as many may presume. If anyone doubts this you can read the post I made before the 2023 election here https://www.nairaland.com/7578573/take-tinubu-atiku-obi-sowore

Even though some mods act sentimentally on how they moderate, I’ve never stopped believing that Nairaland can do better as an open platform for Nigerians to discuss and proffer solutions to various national issues…. There are those who join this forum for nefarious reasons…. For those whose job is to spread tribal propaganda and attack posts critical of Tinubu’s government or Nairaland mods who are sentimental in moderation I will once again state that the reason I post on Nairaland is simply to share my views on how to move the country forward and if anyone doesn’t agree with my post, you’re free to make a superior argument instead of deleting my post. Regarding the August nationwide protest, I stand by my conviction until proven wrong that an interim government is the best option for Nigerians going forward…. For those who are wondering what I am talking about, you can read the post I made below regarding this before it was deleted….

“Over the past one week, Nigerians have been mobilizing for a nationwide protest campaign that will start on August 1, while many news outlets are reporting on this, Tinubu and his government have been busy spreading fear and intimidation propaganda over the protests…. Instead of addressing the lingering issues raised by protesters, the government mobilized soldiers, police officers and paramilitary forces to take over the streets of major cities all over the country as a counter measure to stop Nigerians from trooping out in mass for the protest. There are armored tanks stationed in several places like markets, bus stations and places chosen by protest organizers. With every move taken by this government, it is glaring that this peaceful nationwide protest will be sabotaged by the government. Tinubu’s government has been incompetent from day 1, from lopsided nepotistic appointments to implementing anti-people policies that destroyed Nigeria’s economy and rendered millions of people hopeless…. From the callous removal of fuel subsidy to the irresponsible action of floating the Naira, Tinubu’s government has been on a roll dishing out bad policies and borrowing uncontrollable to the tune of over N20 trillion since he was sworn in as the president in 2023 with nothing to show for it.

Tinubu’s government is anti-democratic, dictatorial, selfish, corrupt and insensitive to the plight of the masses. This is why Nigerians are protesting as cost of living is now to high and unbearable for many…. It is callous of this government that after failing to address the terrible economic situation Nigerians are going through, it still want to deny Nigerians their rights to protest?

Last week, the protest organizers submitted a 14 point agenda for the August nationwide protest, this agenda’s revolves around addressing the fundamental problems of the country, including a demand to scrap the 1999 constitution and some other pressing demands like reversal of fuel subsidy removal and floating of the Naira. The protesters demands included what many Nigerians have been yearning for especially on the aspect of restructuring and anti corruption reforms. If eventually the protest starts, it is obvious that the current government will unleash a violent campaign against protesters, the demands of this protest will not be entertained not to talk of it been implemented. This is why I am once again appealing to Nigerians to instead demand for an end of the current bloated government and an establishment of an interim smaller government that will be tasked with a mandate of 2 years to implement the economic and political reforms that Nigerians are agitating for. Tinubu’s political ambition is not bigger than or above the lives of over 200 million people. He will not reverse the policies of floating the Naira and subsidy removal that plunged the nation into current economic crisis so protesting for his government to implement good governance to me is a waste of time and effort….This government will not listen to the demands of Nigerians protesting because it is highly corrupt, incompetent and incapable of implementing good economic reforms…. An interim government is the only way forward for Nigerians…

For Nigerians to achieve genuine progress from this nationwide protest, here is a list of a 3 point workable agenda that Nigerians should demand for during the protest based on order of implementation….

AGENDA 1: Remove Tinubu as president either through willful resignation or forced impeachment, followed by a total dissolution of the current bloated government

AGENDA 2: Establish a caretaker interim smaller government setup with a mandate of 2 years to implement the points listed below.

- Stabilize the economy by cutting the cost of government, implement immediate reversal of fuel subsidy removal and floating of the Naira policies. Establish a corrupt free fuel subsidy scheme, reverse sale of NNPC, sack current NNPC management and revive one national refinery (Port Harcourt refinery) within 5 months period.

- Establish a new remuneration scheme that will ensure that Nigerian workers are paid a minimum wage that reflects economic realities to boost Nigerians purchasing power and revitalize the economy….

- Constitute a national reformation agenda that will entail representation from each geo political zone with a mandate to overhaul the 1999 constitution or replace it with a people-backed constitution through a sovereign national conference followed by a national referendum. The provisions of this new constitution should scrap the senate arm of the Nigerian legislative system and make legislative job a part-time endeavor

- As a matter of urgency, draft and implement provisions for the total restructuring of Nigeria political landscape towards decentralization to uphold Nigeria’s diversity, foster peace through resource control, decentralization of constitutional powers and regional development.

- Implement the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, all Endsars and human rights activists political detainees

- Reform the nation’s security agencies by sacking all current military and security chiefs benefiting from widespread insecurity and terrorism across Nigeria

- Reform the nation’s anti-graft agencies (EFCC, ICPC…) by sacking all current heads of the anti-graft agencies and empower the anti-graft agencies to investigate and prosecute corrupt politicians and judges that have denied and continue to deny Nigerians access to justice

- Setup judicial panel to probe and prosecute all past and present Nigerian leaders over looting that they supervised while in power, recover their loots and deposit it in a special account to be used to fund education, healthcare and infrastructure

- Reform the nation’s electoral body INEC by sacking and prosecuting the current INEC chairman, reconstitute the Nigerian electoral body INEC to remove corrupt individuals and partisan backed operatives appointed to manipulate elections. Establish diaspora voting rights for Nigerians outside the country

AGENDA 3: Once the electoral reforms and all other reforms listed above are done by the interim government within 2 years, a free and fair election should be conducted to usher in a new Nigeria founded on justice, equity and fairness….

This is what I believe Nigerians should protest and agitate for…. This is what must be done now to salvage the country and put it on the path of greatness…. Tinubu’s government of propaganda will not listen to the demands of protesters and is incapable of implementing the reforms I listed above…. An interim government is what Nigerians need now…..”

WIthout the above 2, all else will end up for nothing, as far as I am concerned. The last month alone has more than proven that this administration has nothing to offer the people except for more massive bribery and corruption the people are against. undecided

Yes this is why I will continue to appeal to Nigerians to look beyond tribalism and push for the establishment of an interim government to implement reforms needed to salvage the country before 2027…. Tinubu’s bad government has nothing good to offer Nigerians…..

An interim government is part of democracy as it is not a coup…. I did not advocate for the illegal removal of Tinubu…. Resignation and impeachment is constitutional…. Nigerians have the right to demand for the dissolution of this government if they have lost faith in the government….. they have the right to withdraw their mandate…. The current situation of the country has become unbearable for many Nigerians…. This is why this protest will not end until urgent action is taken to restore hope to Nigerians….

Tinubu’s refusal to address Nigerians over the nationwide protest is a clear validation that he is not fit to lead the country…. This is to show you that the protesters are right…. there is indeed bad governance in Nigeria…. Over 10 protesters have been killed already…. He does not care about the plight of Nigerians or the damage his government policies have done to Nigeria’s economy….

If you read my post I made it clear that I was not in support of Nigerians participation in the last election…. I did not support Obi, Tinubu or Atiku, I’ve been a proponent for the total restructuring of Nigeria’s political system…. I had pushed and still continue to push for a reset of Nigeria’s political structure that empowers states and regions….. Nigerians can not achieve any meaningful progress without a total restructuring and decentralization of the government….. My guess is that you’re a Yoruba Man and your support for Tinubu is mainly tribal, this is understandable…. If Tinubu’s government was doing well, Nigerians will not be protesting…. There is nothing to gain by supporting a bad government…. The current economic crisis and the resultant effects of unabated increases in cost of living is not acceptable and that is why Nigerians are protesting…. You should be able to see that this protest is motivated by the poor state of the economy…. It has nothing to do with the last election or Peter Obi’s supporters…. The best thing that can happen to Nigeria today is for the country’s political system to be totally decentralized, let each state/region own it resources and run its government independently….

I don’t have any problem as there is no evidence that proves that any one has the power to choose where he wants to be born when coming into this world…. The problem facing Nigeria is simply leadership as Nigeria is already blessed to be a great nation…. I do not regret been a Nigerian….
