What was in the mind of Lot was: Two evils are laid down before him. He chose the lesser one.
It was wrong for those Sodom men to sleep with his daughters but it was more wrong for them to sleep with the his visitors who are men.
I guess if the visitors were women he could have had no choice but to allow them but they being men, homosexuality is worse before God than fornication between man and woman.
That was his thought as a human.
