Tinubu Didn’t Address Our Demands – Youths Storm Lagos Streets, Continue Protest by press9jatv(op): 5:29am On Aug 05, 2024
Despite President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s call for an end to nationwide protests, scores of Youths gathered on Sunday morning around Gani Fawehinmi Park to continue their protest.

The #EndBadGovernance protesters were seen on Sunday morning chanting solidarity songs after President Bola Tinubu’s address to the nation.

President Tinubu, in a nationwide broadcast, had appealed to protesters to cease their activities and engage in dialogue, emphasizing the need for national unity and the cessation of violence and destruction.

He expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and the damage to properties in various states, urging citizens to work together for a brighter future.

However, the protesters said the President has not addressed core issues raised by them despite touching on efforts by his administration.

Policemen and other security agencies were still on the ground at the park.

The police barred the protesters from holding a procession beyond the designated ground at Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ojota.

The protesters complied without argument and returned to the designated point.

As of the time of filing this report, there are policemen than protesters in Ojota area of Lagos.

Some of the protesters’ demands include the restoration of petrol subsidies and the forex regime. They also want the government to address food shortages, unemployment, and the wasteful spending of those in power.

Other demands are a reduction of the President’s cabinet and general cost of governance, immediate reforms of the electoral umpire INEC and anti-graft agency EFCC with renewed vigour in the fight against corrupt politicians.

Tinubu has shown he cares about dialogue and unity, but some youths need to understand that change takes time. Protests are good, but constructive engagement is key. Let's work together to build the Nigeria we all want instead of just shouting demands. Unity is strength!

Toh

Another day, another protest. When will these youths learn?

Maybe they should ask Peter Obi for advice on how to protest effectively since he seems to have mastered the art of doing nothing.

Tinubu merely massaged his ego in the broadcast.

Regaling us with the same calamitous economic policies that have brought us to this sorry state we have found ourselves in.

Nigerian youths need to understand that progress takes time. Tinubu is focused on long-term solutions, not just immediate fixes. They should engage in dialogue rather than protests. After all, we all want a better Nigeria, so let’s support Jagaban in his vision for our future!

Youths in Lagos should channel their energy into supporting the administration instead of protesting. President TINUBU has a vision for our nation, and together we can achieve great things!

This government is indeed very very corrupt and stinking.

Shoyinka has finally nailed this government proving that they don't mean well for Nigeria

Most if not all of his so called economic policies will be reversed by his successor. His vision and legacy will be killed completely once he lives that office.
People that had better economic policies than him had many of their policies and visions reversed or killed.

Re: Tinubu Didn’t Address Our Demands – Youths Storm Lagos Streets, Continue Protest by wonder233:
There will be no real protest in Lagos. This is for the following main reasons:
1. The Ibos are not protesting, they are a substantial part of the population and they are usually the ones without filter who express themselves openly and lead protests.
2. The yorubas on the other hand are divided into two: the educated and uneducated. The educated ones are also roughly divided into two, those who support the president and those who do not. Those who do not, need the ibos to spearhead the protest for them to follow. While for the uneducated, they wholly support the govt. So in total, three-quarters of yorubas in lagos support the govt.
3. There is a very vast and well mobilized army of ethnic militia thugs on fierce standby ready to unleash mayhem on the largest non yoruba ethnic group in lagos i.e the Ibos under the guise of "protecting lagos".
So, this is an added deterrent for anyone.
