Bro it’s just a fabricated story. Who goes out to dine or hustle when temperature is -40c.

About three years ago. It was a bitter winter and I was dining at a restaurant around 11 pm in the night. It was very cold and if I remember correctly, it was -35 degrees Celsius below freezing point and if you pee outside, it freezes before hitting the ground. cold.

The restaurant was filled with everyone white except myself. I looked behind me and it was crowded with delivery drivers working for the delivery app, Skip the Dishes, waiting to pick up food orders. Nine delivery drivers and all black guys mostly Nigerian looking.

Imagine what it means to have to drive constantly in the bitter cold to deliver food when most people are either sleeping or enjoying themselves in a warm restaurant.

Some of these guys are even delivering with brand new SUVs purchased on credits and after a deeper dive, I came to realize our people here live mostly above their means to impress fellow Nigerians. They buy houses or cars they cannot afford and now have to work three jobs and drive on the side to maintain their fake lifestyles.

This is not a healthy way to live guys, learn to relax and enjoy yourself once in a while, do not live above your means and the fact that you are pre-authorized for that big mortgage, loan, or line of credit does not mean you have to accept.

Learn to live your life without trying to please or impress anyone and occasionally, take time off to have fun and enjoy yourself, take vacations.
our people worship money like kilode. Sometimes i begin to wonder. They never take themselves out, they never go elaborate to enjoy themselves. Always thinking about money 24/7. Too bad. Thats why our kids cant compete with foreign kids.

You might be right, and might also be wrong.
Maybe they want to work so damn hard for a short time and invest and retire back home. I had a friend who did Dat for 10 years now he is retired in Nigeria building companies.
But, you said you have lived here for 15 years, even though you live like a church rat and don't spend, so why haven't you saved enough to retire?
So basically you have wasted 15 years of your life punishing yourself. 😆🤣
And you do junk American foods? Why can't you go african market and get healthy food cook?
Make you enjoy small ooo, life is not guaranteed ooo.
Besides, some of those guys might just be born hustlers and now they have the energy they want to utilize it to maximum.
I do HVAC and my job is 100 percent commissioned, and my job pays crazily, but that spirit of hustling dey still push me to do side hustling too, just coz I hate staying home some days in front of the TV it's boring

You are just a writer writing from your imagination. You hardly get habitable part of canada hitting even minus 30 degrees talkless of minus 35 degree. Do you even know how minus 10 degree feels my writer?

When you have an extra bill to pay, you have no choice but to be a slave to multiple jobs. Most of these people even neglect their families working multiple jobs. I know individuals with big houses who never get to sleep in those houses, the husband is working night with other jobs and the wife is working day jobs. Even husbands and wives never get to meet each other as often as possible.
It's all about the bills here and it is a system designed to enslave you if you are not very smart.
and you think is the right thing to do? Go and see how messed up their kids are. I turned down jobs that would not give me that work life balance. I rather take a pay cut to clothe, bathe and enjoy with my kids.

Hardly? Yes. But during winters some days reach -40 constantly. -20 to -38 plenty especially December and January. This is just for places like Alberta, sask, mani...Ont people may not see that low temp.

Is a lie,Edmonton didn't hit -minus 50 degree last year. I just check it. Once the temperature drops below minus 10 degrees, activities reduce everywhere. Do you guys even know how minus 5 degree feel, let alone - 35 degree.

You are right tho but don't be stingy to yourself. My former landlord built two houses in Lagos and immediately he died his two sons sold the houses.

They sold one initially lavish the money then come for the second house. While the man was alive he was thinking and working hard for these two clowns.

Seems the author is a newbie in North America.

He should also tell us how average White Americans or Canadians leave their life! He feels it’s only peculiar to Nigerians.

Do you know how many whites are soaked in mortgage, student, wedding and medical debts?

with harsh economic realities in North America today, is it blacks that are complaining the most?

Hello! To stay ahead of the game legitimately in North America, you will work your asses off.

I have said it here times without number that visiting the western world is way different from living in the western world

Look at this mumu Nigerian - advising Nigerians abroad to take vacations and sometimes enjoy themselves - IF they yield to your advise, will you:

1. Tell their (liability) relatives back home to stop bothering their lives with excessive demands for money and material things from America?

2. Stop counting the years they have spent overseas by mocking them that they have not built mansions back in Nigeria since they left ?

3. Stop comparing them to others who live abroad that you know nothing about their sources of income ? wether they are into cyber crime or other forms of criminality?

4. Promise not to laugh at them if they visit Nigeria with just one travel box and walk with you in the street and try to behave normally? will you not gossip them that. “chai, after XYZ years abroad- this guy returned empty handed entering keke and okada with us who didnt travel” - this one go mumu for abroad ooo, him no know him way- know your way no be curse, bla bla bla

We Nigerians are the cause of all our problems - if you are in America for instance and you can avoid the gathering or meeting of Nigerians - you will live a very happy life - we stress ourselves too much with “unhealthy competition” and thats why a Nigerian sees another Nigerian living above their means and immediately feels compelled to do same or more so people wont laught at him or her, forgetting the race of life is personal - Let me stop here, I believe the wise ones reading my post can make reason of it.

Must you lie? ...and make up stories about things you know little about? Duluth, Minnesota is the coldest city in the US and never ever experienced such mountain top temperature. But yet the restaurant was crowded late nite. You obviously have no clue of how cold -5⁰C is not alone -35⁰.

Thank you. Person get $300k student debt, still dy spend $30k eating out in a year. That's Caucasian lifestyle, most of them live for today when accounts goes to 0, no one will judge them but dor our naija people the person will be doing 3 jobs to keep up the lifestyle.

You still lie, which part is this, habitable part or inhabitable part. Is because you haven't experienced minus temperature before. If you experience even minus 2, you will understand. Try to get visa and explore so that you can talk from experience.

Continue please. The write-up is sp nice to read. Nigerians live in Nigeria and compete with others abroad. That's why there is panic when the dollar goes up, they console themselves with the fact that they have more dollars than their mates abroad shocked
Re: My observations about some of our japa brethren in North America by twosquare(m): 1:45pm On Aug 10, 2024
two truths can coexist...
Puzzlehead:
You are drawing a conclusion about Nigerians that live in North America from one incidence where you saw some dark skinned individuals lining up for food delivery in adverse weather condition.

I know everyone is entitled to their opinio, but I must say that your sample size is very small and statistically insignificant. As such your inference do fall in the spectrum of "fallacy of generalization."

I may be wrong, but I sense you may be bored or have some downtime, hence trying to generate a conversation. This is a public forum, after all.

I will advise you to expand your circle so you can have a better insight about how Nigerians in North America work and live.

No doubt, most immigrants have an adjustment phase when they have to dig deep, be underemployed while they strive to build a career. The people you saw may be in that phase if truly they are Nigerians.
Having said that, I know quite a few Nigerians, and the bunch I know work hard and play even harder.

Some acquaintances of mine have been in Paris in the past 2 weeks watching the Olympics, some others just returned from Japan , another with his wife is planning to tour Europe in a few weeks. My humble self is on vacation, the reason I have downtime to respond to your writeup.

I believe the premise and the conclusion of your observation is faulty. But what do I know, we are just having a conversation in a faceless forum.
