Just asking, how do arabian countries or foreign countries that have very scanty rain feed?

For learning purposes
People should try and locate their farms near rivers, ponds, or streams. They can then get water to irrigate their farms manually or mechanically until the rains return. Or they should consider digging boreholes when buying farmland. The weather can be unpredictable. Cheers.

Create a shed, get a rain water tank where rain falls from the shed into the tank. During dry or drought season, use the rain water tank to wet your plants.

Lol
Nigerian farmers depend mainly on nature to farm, yet they sell at expensive rates like they use some expensive technology.

No matter what any government does to fix the economy if they don't add price regulation policy , Nigerians will still rubbish their work
And you think it's easy to depend on nature to farm? Why not try and be a farmer for a season. Now tell me, what will be their fate if nature fails to deliver, as it were? Would you or your government pay them compensation for their losses?

Life is not balanced Southerns are crying of drought while we in the north are crying of excessive rainfall. My rice farm was flooded less than a week to harvest.

There's drought presently in some states in Nigeria, many farmers are crying because of the seizure of the rain which is affecting their crops.

As a farmer, how are you coping and which measures have you taken?

I don't need to be saying the same thing you said since we don't share one single brain or mind.

Your God may be powerful, but your God does not seem to be at all concerned about Nigeria.
You don't know the mind of God. So you don't have to speak for him. The problem of Nigeria is bad leadership, it is people's oriented not divinely orchestrated. God is not in the habit of doing for men what men can ordinarily do for themselves. So God knows Nigeria but we inflict hardship with bad and inefficient leadership manured by tribal and religious fanatism.

Gods do not exist, so they can't do anything. And its time Nigerians realise that and stop waiting for imaginary gods to do anything for them.
You don't need to convince me. Deal with your believe as I deal with mine. God exists.

As farmers, we know about August break. But this particular one don pass August break.
.
The last time it rained in Ogun state was June 25th. Confirm if you have anyone residing in Ogun.
.
So I ask, is this August break too. No rain in July as a whole, I mean fucking July. This is August 10. No rain still.
Are you kidding me? That one serious o. Damn!

Ever since I lost all my crops to drought during the long August break of 2020, I have decided never to grow any veggies without setting up drip irrigation.

With irrigation you don't worry about irregular rainfall and you eventually sell at a premium price..

This is a disheartening experience, i was with some farmers yesterday as they hope for rain and they lament this same issue .. but they blame it on rain not falling...

Its like the Gods have decided to add to the hunger.

Is it because we are a sinful nation I wonder.
People dey use irrigation anywhere to farm becasue they can actually control it. Why depend on something like rain that you don't have control over?

Many Nigerians especially those in the South do not know what is really happening, truth is that food inflation will increase by more than 300 percentage next year. Almost 50 percentage of crops in the agricultural areas of North are dying due to the lack of rainfall.

Nigerians should brace up. Even importation of food cannot change the impending hunger.

You guys are funny, not even open boarder can solve the problem, you think other Africa countries are not experiencing same thing? Do you know that we now export food to other Africa countries?

I feel for other farmers, but I'm less worried here. The weather is good for the crops I grow.
Haha, don't feel for farmers. Feel for the country. A rice farmers who is s expecting 100 bags of rice but got 50 because of the drought will sell at a higher price than the anticipated price, thereby causing food inflation. The farmer must surely have something to eat. What about the non farmer.

I had to go and monitor the guard on my site and ensure he waters the fruit crops I planted there. I instructed him to give each plant at least 2-3 medium cups of water daily until the rains resume falling. I went there yesterday and we both watered the fruit crops. There is nothing like rain o. Rain has carbons and other nutrients in it that helps plants grow quickly. Please, try and water plants in your garden daily. God will bring back the rains soon. Amen .
You can't do that on a large farm

If you call yourself a farmer and you don't know about August break, you be olodo.
August break since April? Most of you will just open your month wide and talk on something you know nothing about. Those crops you see there have not seen good rain fall since April/May.

Why didn't farmer complain for many years and just this year. You think the farmer will be affected more? Na you weh go buy their crops for market go suffer am. A bag of rice at 150k loading.

WantsandMore:
Didn’t Nimet warn of drought and flooding this year? Don’t farmers listen to news and use data accordingly.
It's like you have never been to farm before. What should a rice farmer do with the warning? Stop farming?

Rice needs steady rain of 3 months, and then there is no rain, so farmers should not farm?

Don't mind them, next year when prices of food skyrocket, they will sha blame Tinubu at least not farmers.

You're right sha.

I did my plantation around November last year with irrigation system. Farmers should learn to go towards that path. It's not even that expensive.
