One Million-Man March Flops, Hunger Protest Quietly Ends by abc115(op): 6:40am On Aug 11, 2024
The one million-man march planned by leaders of the #EndBadGovernance protest flopped on Saturday across the country due to low turnout.

In different parts of Nigeria, protesters shunned their usual meeting points, which had been occupied by security agents.

Organisers of the protest had said the march would signal the end of the 10-day protest against economic hardship.

In preparation for the march, security agencies deployed operatives into cities as roadblocks were mounted.

Low turnout in Abuja

The security situation was the same on Saturday as the police mounted barricades on all roads leading to Eagle Square, the venue where the protesters intended to converge for the protest.

Although protests were held in the Lokogoma and Apo areas of the FCT, the turnout was noticeably lower compared to previous events.

Yoruba Muslims sponsored thread

They're are not hungry now

only hungry during Jonathan's tenure when Naira was 216 to the dollar

Nigerians should go on social media and see Muslim ronu miscreants defending Tinubu embarrassing themselves and their generations

The rest of the country has seen how tribalistic and clannish these lots can be..

How can someone wake up and say Tinubu is doing an awesome job when all glaring induces say otherwise

poverty
inflation
Insecurity which is highly under reported
Dying Economy, health and education sectors
unemployment

Yet they're creating 50m jobs on social media SMH

We need a curriculum for home training nowadays!

Parents should learn to train their kids!

If every home is good the community and hence the society will be good!

Even our leader will have no choice but be good because they come from amongst us!

We are losing it.

This kind of news is music to the ears of Batists. In a country where the presidency enjoys watching the people suffer while braindead sycophants sing the praises of the same people who are fu*cking them up

The thing is NIgeria is a land of patronages that are based on tribe, religion and personal friendships.

A revolution would upend those patronage systems, and would lead to chaos. That is feared more than any economic harshness.

Also, in 1966, January, the Five Majors , out of a sense of duty to their country, removed the corrupt civillian elite...and everyone rejoiced, until five days later, when the dust settled and people realized that their patronage system was in jeopardy.

We know what that led to....a counter coup and a long civil war. Lessons were learned, and since then, the idea of the popular people's revolution has not been popular in this country.

So long as we are a poor country, no one is going to take the risk and get behind a people's revolution. Because at the end, it might be you left holding the wrong end of the stick.

(That's why we have things like federal character, and rotation....it is because ....people don't want to feel left out...and it is the central government's recognition of that fact).

Now, that does not mean we should sit down and keep quiet...I would even come out and say that we need a revolutuon, and an overthrow of the current corrupt system, but what is one man's revolution is another man's means of dispossesing the other side of their benefit.

Remember Mauritania...the elected government was overthrown, people were called out on the street to protest, but then the oppositon to the overthrown government came out and protested for the army.

Patronages.

We have had several protests, but at the end they all fizzle out because, to quote the book Brave New World...people will always choose stability over uncertainty.

Re: One Million-Man March Flops, Hunger Protest Quietly Ends by fasho01(m):
There is hunger in the land and it's our right to make this known by any peaceful means necessary. Also, our leaders that we put in power have the responsibility to listen to us and make life easier for us.

Flop or no flop, the message has been passed across and we hope it puts the leaders on their toes to end bad governance else this would become a trend and there will come a time when the protest will yield far more consequences for the leaders than they could ever imagine.

Re: One Million-Man March Flops, Hunger Protest Quietly Ends by Bobloco:
When you see Tinubu-paid agents and BATerians celebrating what they now describe as flopped protests, one might think that it's burned out of a sense of patriotism, but the truth is that it's burned out of extreme bigotry.

They just want Nigerians to continue pretending that all is well in the face of excruciating pains inflicted upon them by the Tinubu calamitous economic policies.

They don't want any dissenting voice against the Tinubu regime, which is now reputed to be the worst regime in the history of this country.
Re: One Million-Man March Flops, Hunger Protest Quietly Ends by freddie009(m):
One striking observation about the Yoruba people is their strong sense of support for their own. When Lagosians discuss Lagos, they exude a sense of pride that makes it seem like the best city in the world. They have a unique way of persuading others that their city is superior, their food is the best (Ijebu garri - I don't like it though because it taste salty).
Nowadays, even musicians attempt to imitate the Yoruba accent and singing style in Afrobeats just to be accepted in the Lagos market.

This is a quality that all communities should embrace: standing by your own, whether it's your tribe, religion, or family. Refrain from joining others in criticizing those who are close to you. I used to vent to a friend about my brother's behaviour, but this friend always spoke highly of his brother—until I met him and realized he was even worse. It taught me a great lesson.

The rich folks never sell themselves out if they are benefitting from each other.
