20k is monthly upkeep and is not a loan. Tuition is sent directly to the Uni and is repayable. Tuition is the full school fees.
Are you sure the 20k is free?
Re: Student Loan: UI Receives N201million School Fees For 1,370 Students by alphaNomega: 9:01pm On Aug 13, 2024
Loan ke?

is the loan not meant for people who can not afford school fees?

why are they asking for refund to go into debt in future?

Unless the "loan" here means something else because I do not understand.

Is it a loan or a scholarship, I don't trust these newspapers and bloggers to even share the truth. They only care about stories that trend.

I don't see the sense in offering student loans to students in a country where the vast majority of graduates are without jobs. It just does not make sense of any kind. undecided
this country has an upside-down way of doing things and years later, wonder why they can not make progress undecided

Then the vast majority of the graduate are useless to themselves and the country for not creating employment with the knowledge gained .

Oh wow that sounds cool.. 20k every month is not bad at least it can help in various ways coupled with your own money. Tho my major concern is how students will pay this money especially those who won't find a job. I didn't really read how the student loan works but if he is able solve this problem I pointed out by creating more enabling environment for Job opportunities then it's a good start.

Also I thought he should have made this for everyone except international students so everyone can freely apply unless he intend doing that later
Yea at least we won't have drop outs owing to financial difficulty as we used to. Well on the payment, even the government knows not all will pay, some are already calling it national cake lol. It's a commendable initiative if they will sustain it

There is no indication that the money was given to them for free ooo! undecided

many of us see fact but we tend to avoid it, in lautech, around Ajimobi tenure, there were “no fees, no exam” but after a time, most students were allowed, till now, many have graduated and some are still owning like 3 sessions. When school calculated everything, it was around 2bn in naira. School thought they will come and pay when going for nysc but most didn’t come for their result because they didn’t have the money to pay. Tell me, someone that own like 300k and earning 20k in teaching job. Why would most of them pay for result when they knew know tangible job awaits them.
So, the same thing will likely happen here, if they accumulate debt of 700k through out the studies, And they secure job of 50k, do you think they would pay. Many might not even do white collar job, if they are into business, the money might be gone.
Many of you don't see facts, you simply make analysis that don't make sense.
Provided you don't have a job, u go to court make an affidavit and submit that you don't have a job, it's part of the listed conditions.
That is to say, someone doing a non taxable job is considered unemployed, applicants submit BVN during the application, what does that tell you?
Ur bank accounts associated with the BVN will be monitored to validate your claim.
The loan is not compulsory, those who desperately need it will use it.
Those who feel their time spent in school will be worthless and their life in general will be wórthIess should avoid it.

look like a trap.
cause even after school.
one might tlbe restricted from travelling out with outstanding loan.

Nd the nature of jobs in nigeria wont allow for quick repayment
If you can gather money to travel out it means you have money to repay the loan. SO pay the loan before running away with Nigeria money

Oga it doesn't work like that. There's what is called "enabling environment". They people protesting and crying of hunger do think they are all jobless? If there is an enabling environment, a lot of things will sort itself out.
I don't see a disabling environment.

Just graduate, then start looking for job.

In a class of 120 computer science students, less than 20 of those students can actually boost of passing their courses without bribe or exam malpractice, I am not telling a story, I was in that department.

You expect job to find them when they can't take school seriously, someone who went through Special centre for WAEC, Jamb and then bribe and combine exam malpractice to graduate, you expect government to just hand him job, would you employ just anyone to drive you, just because he is a graduate.

The fund is to help those who desire education and can't afford it.

Is It that you want to pay for those who lack the means to further their education at this very difficult time in Nigeria, should drop nearby and you will sponsor them or you are trying to belittle the good programme for its acceptability?
If you don't see anything good in this Project of the government ,why don't you just waka pass?

You are right, FG should have given the money directly to the students so that they can use it to establish baby factories and buy hard drugs for trafficking,

As a student, the Hunger now is too painful. Money doesn't last due to inflation. Worse is, no parents or sponsors anywhere. I feel like abandoning this whole thing for now
Abandon what? Quell the thoughts bro.
Trust me, I see greater you in just four-five years time. You're gonna be happy you passed through this, I bet, cos it's gon get you prepared for the beauty ahead. You could collect the loan, just forge ahead like a soldier youre and get good grades. I swear the family and parents gon come then, and you'll be kind and happy to help them, cos they themselves 're probably short of help too atm. Most people having it rough in Nigeria, you know. Stay great soldier. See you up the top.

You would have preferred they drop out instead. You reasoning is very very myopic, instead of addressing issue of unemployment separately.

Boss, these are common profession (hustle) of Nigerians. Please tell me if they are taxable.
Pos, forex trading,, crypto, sport betting, MC, housing agent, content creation, teaching, and most are business owners.
Now are these profession or hustle taxable?
Those loans would be eventually forgotten.

Not disabling environment, but crippling environment. Try starting a business in Naija from scratch, without "connections" and bags of money. You will see that passion, creativity and hardwork aren't enough to excel in our dear country.
