liveLongNprospa:The logical conclusion to your question is explored in Warhammer 40k, and the dark age of technology. It's not an IP most are familiar with, but I'm a huge fan of it. Anyway 40k is set in the 41st millennium, and one of their plot lines explores something called a Standard Template Construct (STC) which is an AI so advanced thag it is capable of building anything you want based on preconfigured templates, from 3D printing spaceships to terraforming entire planets. Now in the times before the current setting, humanity experienced a galactic level civil war, and most of their scientists, engineers and general STEM experts are dead. So nobody knows how an STC works, only that it works, and when it doesn't work, nobody knows how to fix it, because nobody learnt how to build anything. The AI and software running their spaceships and general machinery are now being worshipped as Machine spirits because nobody knows how to code, or even the meaning of code, to the point where they look at basic software like a digital dash and consider it sorcery. That's an extreme example, but this truly the danger of AI in its peak manifestation, and in general technological advancement as a whole. In the UK now, they don't even sell cars with spare tyres anymore. If your car has a flat. You call someone out to fix it. And there's now a whole generation of people, my wife as an example, who have never changed a tyre before in their lives and would be stranded if that happened in say Nigeria, because she doesn't even know what a Jack looks like. And that's the danger AI presents to learning. |

Ibime:i also picked something else from what ibime wrote, nigeria is not dangotes sole market. so if dangote get crude oil at a subsidized rate and then sells his pms at global market rates, he is simply gaming the system - as he will not be selling to nigeria alone. this may also be the difference in his relations between tinubu and buharis admin. buhari is not a businessman, has no experience in business beyond his 150 cows, is socialist through and through and can easily be lambaed into believing that dangote will not make a killing from selling subsidized pms on the international market at market rates. Tinubu did work in the oil industry t the financial numbers level, tinubu is a business man , tinubu understands no altruism in the jungle and will not allow for a scenario where nigeria subidizes dangotes profit before tax. |

BlueRayDick:BlueRayDick. Right now the facts are simple and no need to be complicated. The PIA encourages willing buyer and seller. The PIA also encourages DCSO. The open market rate is what Dangote wants to buy the crude oil with. This is determined once again by the DCSO. Open market rate of crude is 82 dollars per barrel. That is what Dangote is required by law to buy before the oil leaves the shores of Nigeria. The extra 4 dollars Dangote has paid for oil is premium added by IOC through their trading arm which is illegal in this case. That is the argument. There's a reason NUPRC is currently looking to amend the DCSO right now. https://punchng.com/nuprc-set-to-amend-domestic-crude-supply-regulations/ |

nihilistjnr:obligatory however i think what will fk ai over is it is training itself on information already available if we start relying on AI fully , there will be no more human content to train AI, at which point it is likely to just be regurgitation its own content dont follow the warhammer universe, but i raise you the butlerian jihad

GloriousGbola:I believe those with knowledge in the industry know Dangotes game and his insistence on being supplied Bonny Light is due to its low sulphur content as you surmised earlier. Bonny Light is selling at $86 today, other grades of crude are selling at $80, and even Russian Urals is selling at $67 Whatever price advantage Dangote wants from Nigerian supply can be found in importing other grades of crude at lower price, but I believe your analysis that the sticking point is his refinery is not ready to desulphur and he needs that sweet Bonny Light to meet sulphur standards. |

nihilistjnr:I agree but the issue is companies are racing towards that future. With each update, AI assistants are doing even more. Being integrated more. So what then should be done? Pressure the government to pressure the companies to find new use cases or otherwise stop this development trend. We have alot of people who buy into this AI dream. But let's leave that extreme future. My question is mostly for the use of AI at this moment in learning and development. Should there be limits or should it be embraced? I mean AI is already being used in our jobs as part of our daily drivers. So how e go be? |

iamoyindamola:This is fair. My issue is with the use of AI detection tools that flag you for using AI at all. That's a waste of time at this point. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by larride(m): 11:11am On Aug 14, 2024 |
liveLongNprospa:AI is not going anywhere anytime soon and I doubt any government is going to try and stifle "innovation" that makes "work and life easier". Majorly AI is meant to help us achieve our goals/tasks faster than we would normally with assistant. AI are constantly learning from data feed into it, that's why you can ask Chatgpt and Grok the same question and get 2 slightly or totally differing answers. AI still need human interactions to give it prompt and feed it data for it to serve its purpose currently, it might evolve beyond that in the future but it is what it is currently. The goal is to master the AI in relation to your profession so you can do your work more faster and more productive. In learning, AI is already bringing challenges when it comes to plagiarism. There's an episode on Twitter that we discussed here about a VC investor who believed a certain word usage is AI generated, sure there are some anti AI checker for essays and articles to detect whether they are generated by AI or not but these checkers are not even reliable. In a world with different writing style, it's a challenge that AI advocates and innovators have a find a way to solve. |

liveLongNprospa:Because it's generic and you should be able to flag it yourself if you are used to it The way AI writes is obvious |

Ibime:If Dangote is saying he is ready to buy at market price, then why is he insisting on buying from NNPC alone If you are ready to buy shoes at market price, why insist on only from Izzous shop? If izzou no sell then go to seankafor Abi I'm missing something |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by monerozi5590: 5:32pm On Aug 14, 2024 |
raumdeuter:Yes sir, your are missing something. He is not insisting on buying from NNPC alone. He wants to buy from those IOCs in Nigeria, but the IOCs want to sell to him above market price and not even directly sef but from a third party. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 5:45pm On Aug 14, 2024 |
monerozi5590:So going by this explanation, if you have market price in your hand, there are hundreds of other sellers who can sell to you right? Look at my shoe example, if IOC wants to sell to you above market price then move on to where you can get cheaper and fairer price Dangote is not establishing this refinery for charity, he intends to make money from it, he says he is ready to buy at market rate then if NNPC or IOC is not willing buy from any of the others |
