I don't think any good developer stores clients password on plain site. the passwords mostimes are encrypted and it's a one way street encryption so you can never decrypt it as it is saved in the database. What is being done when you login is to encrypt the password you are using to login as well then use it to compare the one in the database if they are same then you are authorised to login

I believe that the website was rerouted to another clone website . So the idea is to make clients feel they are in the same website then they hacker will now get the customers logon info and use it on the main website to do customers transactions

Loosing domain is similar to loosing to one's car plate number. You will have your car but authorities will find it difficult knowing who owns the car. Domain name is just a pointer.
The only insider that benefits from sth like is the Bank's IT guy who could create a Phishing website to collect less informed customers data.
