America will never really crash financially. Too many things make that country rich - it is not like Russia or Nigeria. Money will never be their problem, petro-dollar and BRIC or not. They have other problems but I don't think money will ever be one of them for a very long time

All depends on where you are and your situation there. The average immigrant to the US is not living in a box room like that, and I'm sure you can find cheap motels rather than stay at a place like that unless you're trying to stay in Manhattan while being broke.

The second part of the equation is where is he now and what is his situation? If he is doing a lot better then the sacrifice was worth it abi?

Well, the person in question is doing pretty so well and has travelled over 20 countries with his boys and wife. He is a friend and I can say his story is such an awesome one of never giving up on your dreams.

There are dirt cheap hotels that cost that much per day as at now. Much less many years ago. Meaning he could have gotten hotels for that price or less for 24 hours since this supposedly happened years ago.

Na him wan stay New York. In fact even in New York he could have gotten hotels at that price for 24 hours instead of 8 hours and stay the whole day. plus some will serve you breakfast.

Dont believe everything thing you read. Sometimes I wonder if I am living in a different America. Newyork, Philly etc do have even hostels that you can rent btw $40 and $50. There are thousands of shelters for the homeless in the US. Every Nigeria or Africans are not into dirty jobs. The average median income of Nigeria significantly higher than most whites. It’s not possible for an average American to earn more than an average Nigerian who is working in thesame company where over time is available. Nigerians are not living for themselves alone but for their large dependents back home, while Americans live independent of their children, parents etc beca they are been supported by the system.

The issue of slavery is sometimes exaggerated because nobody forces you to work over time. Americans work overtime but not like Africans who wants to make all the money.
Many Nigerians here buy there own houses not on mortgage, send their children to private schools etc

Racism is also exaggerated because I know that tribalism in Nigeria is worst, where a section of a country will call the other to leave thesame country they both belong.

For 80 dollars I will head to wood and furniture market, arrange a carpenter, get enough plywood, bucket to easy myself, mattress bed sheet pillow and more. I will still have change left.

Fiction is something outside what REGULARLY obtains, NOT people who'd rather get peanuts than leave a room empty. You gave example of going on vacation - how much you'll expect to pay for a regular hotel room in NYC. If you tell anyone you're budgeting $50 a night, they'll tell you good luck with that!

If I’m on vacation, I expect to spend really well on a good hotel. 5 star preferably. 4 star if they’re known to be a nice boutique or design edition hotel.

But that’s not the case for him though is it?
He’s just looking for where to sleep so instead of a box, a cheap hotel could have served the purpose.

Also remember the beginning of my post I said he could have found something between $70-$100 to just have a bed and shower (nothing fancy or vacation level) for the whole day. But would’ve been better than a $80 box for 8 hours. Which is actually common sense but you had to argue.
