Just wondering what's the difference between a barber shop and a hair dressing salon

A Barbing Salon cuts hair low especially for males while an hairdressing salon fixes female hairstyles. But some are unisex now, cos males fix dreadlocks and women go for low cut.
Some also have both at the 2 different ends of the Salon at times run by different people in partnership.
