Goodluck started the project point of correction. I doubt if you've seen the kind of congestion that is experienced along that bridge besides that it's a 1.6km project. So lemme ask you a simple question, you have a road that is already exists, is it better to build a coastal highway and abandon the existing one?

And secondly, are you saying the present economy of this country can be compared to the previous administration
First I must assume I am discussing with a sane mind and not obidient who has lost their mental capacity to emotion and tribalism.

Who initiated or started is not the bone of contention here but the amount of investment made into the project at the time Nigeria was in recession and was borrowing heavily.

Why would you justify the construction of a brand new bridge when the existing one could have been dualised to save cost at a time of recession and heaving borrowing but against the creation of a coastal road that would link 8 states?

If you claim the government should first rehabilitate all FG roads before embarking on such a project then why didn't you ask FG to first complete all FG in SE before embarking on the 2nd Niger Bridge?

Anyone that challenges your bigotry and counters your idiocy is IPOB abi!? In your alternate universe, but for IPOB, your Nigeria would be developed, united, peaceful and progressive! It then begs the question as to why you fought a war to ensure the ‘IPOB’ don’t detach themselves from you…and why you’re not supporting their present efforts to see the back of you!

You have proof the second Niger bridge cost $2 billion dollars? If so, can you share it with us? If it does turn out that the bridge cost the amount you claim, then the cost has obviously been inflated by your darling APC gov’t! Face them!

If we check all the billions of dollars Nigeria has sucked out from Alaigbo, with little to show for it in their region by way of federal presence, then wouldn’t you say they more than deserving to have $2 billion dollars worth of project in their region!? That’s assuming the figure you quoted is correct.
I laugh in Chinese. grin

Which ''billions of dollars'' is being sucked out of the East?

Is it your palm kernel and yellow garri you make there that is fetching you ''billions of dollars''?

Once you IPOB boys eat that your mkurumiri or whatever you call it, you will start hallucinating about all sorts.

How is the bridge ''dilpidated''? That bridge looks okay, and seems to just need a spray wash!

When a bridge like that is getting old, you do reinforcement engineering to strengthen it.

The solution is not to build a 2 billion dollar brand new ''2nd'' bridge right next to it, unless you are UAE and all these money miss road gulf oil countries with tiny populations.

After all we have far older bridges than that all over the world that are still standing gidigba till today, like Brooklyn bridge New York, that was built in 1869.

1st Niger Bridge was built in 1965!

Yesterday!

Don't come here and start comparing two different brigde designs. Have you ever travelled on the 1st Niger brigde when there's heavy traffic? Have you ever felt the vibration on the brigde structure when these loads are applied?
Are you also aware that an integrity test was carried out on the structure (1st Niger brigde) before the second Niger brigde was suggested?

This is funny.

You just want to blame the South Eastern people for a project that was carried out and executed by the FG. You said it costs $2bn to construct yet you do not fault the Government(s) that constructed it, but instead you decided to blame the people in the South East Region.

If you have been opportune to travel around Nigeria, you’ll know that the Niger bridge serves more than just the people of the South East.

Vehicles and goods coming from the Northern part of the country to the Southern part make use of this bridge and vice versa.

This hate and bigotry needs to stop. It makes some of you sound and look stupid because you’re blinded by it.

All FG road cannot be good at the same time as road are infrastructure that wears out as a result of use.

That doesn't stop FG or and other government from embarking on new road. Just as maintaining infrastructure would boost economic activities so also creating new roads in strategic location would equally do.

It is sheer hypocrisy to state government should abandon creation of new roads for maintenance when the two can go simultaneously

The OP should kindly approach the minister of information or the spokesperson to the president for the answer on why a second Niger bridge was built.
Besides, the South easterners did not point guns on the head of those that built the bridge.
Meanwhile, I believe that you have not visited the old bridge before especially during the festive period to see for yourself how commuters suffer on that bridge.
Ttalk:
All your epistles is not what the OP is asking.

His point is why did the SE blackmailed the FG to build 2Niger bride when it could have been rehabilitated and probably added another lane for wider passage rather than building a brand new bridge when there are other pressing commitment. Same Igbo are the one shouting at the top of their voice that the coastal road is a wasteful spending

Governors build adjourning roads to by pass the river Niger? Governors to handle trunk A roads?
And you didn't read from the news as you've never travelled that the 2nd Niger bridge comes with a By-pass. If you don't have money to travel, remove hate, read and learn so you'll at least sound smart.
Igbos never hated Buhari because he is a northerner, they only despised his poor leadership roles. Or have you heard Igbos badmouthing Yaradua? Tinubu so far hasn't been doing well and the north hates him the most. You personally know Tinubu is failing and is dying from his maladministration but Igbos has remained your problem. You are the typical chicken head that refused to bend from the knife that cut it but blaming the pot. Igbos preferred Osibanio during preelection but you couldn't talk about it.

Don't allow hate or tribalism to becloud your sense of reasoning @Tellmeastory
Show us the integrity test that didn't factor rehabilitation and upgrading into account.

The only integrity test we see is blackmailing coming out from SE and the cry of marginalization.

3rd mainland bridge experiences more traffic and it's more fragile than 1 Niger Bridge but Lagosians do not blackmail the FG for another bridge but decided to look inward and the state government now proposes to build its 4th mainland bridge just like the state built its port when the the the the the pressure on the existing port controlled by the FG became unbearable.

The SE conveniently shifted the responsibility of the state government to the FG but would cry foul when the FG extended the same gesture to other regions.
One of the major ways FG should compensate the SS is to build this well-deserved coastal road and any SE that complains should be seen as selfish and wicked.

In the 8th Assembly SE legislators were the arrowhead that killed the Bill to give Lagos State special status today SEDC Act exists when a president from the same Lagos state is in power.

SE should know that other Southerners are conscious of its selfish and parochial politics born out of hatred and jealousy.

Building coastal road will not affect the development of SE in anyway and any attempt to run down the project is just a manifestation of inherent hatred and jealousy known to SE

''only one lane comes to use during heavy traffic'' because LIKE I SAID, the bridge needed reinforcement engineering to strengthen it.

The Brooklyn bridge wasn't built in 1869 to handle the weight it does today.

It was strengthened to handle today's level of weight.

SAME should have been done with the 1st Niger Bridge, rather than building a brand new bridge for 2 billion dollars right next to it.

Look do you know the number of trailers that ply Mile 2 Badagry express road. On a good day over 400 trailers with heavy loads ply that road.

Today that road is a ghost of itseft until FG now embark on rehabilitation of some section while the state government is doing large chunk of the road.

This is route to a border where custom generate it's largest revenue.

A vast majority of the people from your region are just foolish and blinded by stupid politics. This is why Nigeria is sinking and will keep sinking untill you all senseless beings are relegated to the abyss.

Without mincing much words to addressing your flawed logic and regressed thinking, The second Niger bridge, built many years ago was in dilapidated condition and severally, it has failed to accommodate that amount of traffic, usually, that passes through.

On the coastal road you smuggled into the argument, can we start by asking ourselves pertinent questions as to where the coastal road will pass through? If you have traveled to the South or live in the South, kindly state where the coastal road will pass through in Rivers State.
