Crude Oil Sales In Naira To Dangote, Others Begin October 1 - Finance Minister by BeeBeeOoh(op): 6:39pm On Aug 19, 2024
The Federal Government has disclosed that sales of crude oil to Dangote Refinery and other local refineries will commence October 1, 2024.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, made the announcement during a meeting with the Implementation Committee on Monday in Abuja.

According to a post on the official X (formerly Twitter) page of the finance ministry, the meeting was to review progress on key initiatives.

At the meeting, key roles were outlined for stakeholders, including the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission and the African Export-Import Bank to ensure smooth implementation.

The post read, “The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, today led the Implementation Committee meeting on the transition to crude oil sales in naira.

“The meeting reviewed progress on key initiatives, including the upcoming commencement of naira payments for crude oil sales to the Dangote Refinery starting October 1, 2024.”

Also, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Dr Zacch Adedeji, and the Chairman of the Technical Sub-Committee reported that “The first PMS delivery from Dangote is expected next month under existing agreements.”

It also stated that updates were provided on the Port Harcourt and Dangote Refineries were also provided, with significant production increases expected from November 2024.

The minister emphasised the need for transparency and directed the Technical Sub-Committee to finalize details and prepare a report for the President, confirming that his directives are on track for implementation from September.

Recall that the Federal Executive Council had on July 29 okayed President Tinubu’s proposal for NNPC to halt the sale of crude oil to local refineries in foreign currency.

The Federal Executive Council approved that the 450,000 barrels meant for domestic consumption be offered in Naira to Nigerian refineries, using the Dangote refinery as a pilot.

The move is to ensure the stability of the pump price of refined fuel and the dollar-naira exchange rate.

Findings show that Dangote Refinery, at the moment, requires 15 cargoes of crude oil yearly.

In response, the finance minister inaugurated a technical sub-committee tasked with developing the framework for the sale of crude oil to local refineries in naira.

Monday’s meeting marks the second to be held in seven days.

A directive was given last month only after Nigerians complained. Now you’re saying till October. You don’t mind that there’s fuel scarcity and very expensive to buy even when available
After all the high expectations of Wale Edun, I’m very disappointed he has been a failure this far with Tinubu

Lol. How many meetings do they need before they start completing critical things not to even talk of results

When tinubu told the cbn to close the exchange rate gap to stop round tripping many of us surported the policy. But the more they close the gap the more the exchange rate keeps going higher, And the cbn continue to close the gaps. Which further mess up the economy and pushed the petrol price higher even after subsidy removal and with government paying more subsidy then they met and Nigerians paying 4 to 5 times the price for PMS and diesel.

Goods and agricultural produce became costly especially imported items.

In conclusion the Naira was devalued due to wrong and uncalculated policies.

You can't close a currency gap without releasing enough to go round. Nigerians depends on black markets for their exchange and CBN id closing gaps of currency they didn't release. The effect is black market will continue to distance itself from the official rate

See lie... they kept it on october 1 so that Tinubu will announce it as (audio) achievement in his independence day speech. After that day, Dangote will be complaining then NNPC will be blaming one thing or the other for the delay until Tinubu tenure runs out. We've seen this before.

You're the failure here and the funds for your Education is a waste. You lack the understanding and exposure to know there are processes to implementation of policies. It requires relevant stakeholders and authorities to adopt a template that'd suit its practicality, reports have to be submitted and adopted before the implementation, approvals from relevant quarters have to be given before implementation begins. Similarly was the directives of removal of import duties on some specific food items which had to pass through relevant agencies with procedures laid out before implementation begins, it doesn't just fly off the hat. You're simply ignorant.

These guys should all be executed for treason and sabotage against the country.

all these nonsense stories with dates ,
stop giving us date , let it start and we will see,
the fuel was increased to 900naira to 1k so by October , dangote will tell us he has fuel and he will reduce his price to 500 or 600naira and we will all be jumping and happy,
the real truth is the price was jacked up now for dangote to reduce it by October to 500.
if fuel is not sold at #200 in October we will go to war

Using Naira to buy "Made in Nigeria" products has several positive economic implications:

1. Conservation of Foreign Exchange: Reduced demand for foreign products means less pressure on foreign exchange reserves.

2. Boost to Local Industries: Increased demand for local products stimulates growth, employment, and investment in domestic industries.

3. Economic Diversification: Promotes diversification by supporting non-oil sectors, reducing dependence on oil exports.

4. Job Creation: Local production and consumption create jobs, reducing unemployment and poverty.

5. Increased Government Revenue: Higher local production and consumption generate more tax revenue for the government.

6. Improved Balance of Trade: Reduced imports and increased exports lead to a better balance of trade.

7. Reduced Inflation: Local production reduces reliance on imported goods, mitigating the impact of exchange rate fluctuations on prices.

8. Encourages Innovation: Supports innovation and entrepreneurship in domestic industries.

9. Reduced Capital Flight: Keeps money within the Nigerian economy, reducing capital flight.

10. Economic Growth: Stimulates overall economic growth, as local production and consumption drive demand and investment.

By promoting "Made in Nigeria" products, the country can harness these benefits, fostering economic development and self-sufficiency.

Remember, you can only transaction business in China with their Yaun currency.
