Without any doubt Obasanjo's decisions and actions have kept Igbos away from becoming president 25 years later. Did he target Igbos specially ? Just as Igbos have had it militarily but never democratically, the Southern minorities never had it militarily but democratically, so it is still a balance. In addition, to have it democratically is never on a platter of gold but careful strategizing and building of bridges. Igbos are failing on this because they use emotions, blackmail on others ethnicities, and secession threats.

Today Obasanjo could and often makes cheap speeches and gestures that seem supportive of Igbo aspirations or views and ignorant Igbos youths would hail him upandan!

To me it is less important that Igbos provide a presidency than Nigeria has the correct man for the job, but whilst we are in a so called democracy we must be seen to operate with equity and fairness.

This is damning misdeed on the part of PDP and Obasanjo must own his share of the responsibility, being the first PDP president whose government introduced the 1999 constitution after the 1995 draft constitution that would have guaranteed an Igbo president was ditched weeks before Obasanjo resumed as president in 1999.

But the man makes so many speeches nowaday when he is out of power, appearing to side with Igbo opinions and other cheap gestures which have Igbo who are ignorant of recent Nigerian political history to believe he is pro-Igbo.

Of course words are cheap and his words certainly appear to be pro-Igbo but his actions are the polar opposite.

Obj seniors the founders of PDP Gen. Babangida and Gen. Abubakar in the military, I can not see how they can ditch the 1995 Draft Constitution and replace it with a re-hatch of the 1979 constitution (that Obasanjo himself promulgated before handing over to President Shagari ) without consulting Obj who was already out of prison and considered one of the founders of PDP at that time.

That aside Obasanjo once president can do what he wants and can amend the 1999 constitution, which he did severally and he even attempted to amend it to allow himself to have a third term as president. So why did he not at least try to amend it to provide Igbos and other geopolitical zones, with guarantee of the seat of the presidency?

Finally after his 8 years in office the fair thing to do would have been hand the PDP presidential ticket to the Igbos or at least the VP, since Igbos are considered one of the 3 largest geopolitical zones but he gave neither the presidential or the VP ticket to Ndiigbo.

I must acknowledge at this point that you are the first Igbo person I have come across saying it exactly as it is without sentiments as far as Obasanjo relationship with Igbo is concreted. You are very realistic and candid in your opinion and that is just the truth. Obasanjo is actually responsible for the inability of Igbo to clinch presidency but he keeps playing on their intelligence with words while they too keep falling for it. There were a lot of accomplished and distinguished Igbos like Soludo, Ngige, Anyim Pius Anyim, etc whom Obasanjo could and should have picked as Yaradua's running mate instead of Jonathan who was far less cerebral than these Igbo personalities.

As far as I know Igbos are the least political or united of the 3 main tribes ; we are just not ready to or willing to organize politically that is why after the death of Ojukwu , there was no respected Igbo elder willing to guide and advise our people and in that type of leadership vacuum. insincere people and enemies of Nigeria and Ndiigbo can use the likes of NK and his so called IPOB to destroy us.
Even Ojukwu could not successfully rally Igbos. The party he founded as a rallying point for Igbos has not been able to grow beyond his Anambra State of origin. Even in that Anambra it is facing serious existential threat.

Obasanjo to me is one of these enemies of Nigeria .

Buhari twice made Igbo men his vice in two occasion he pursued his presidential ambition before he won at the last attempt. At each of these attempt the Igbo refused to vote for him. The truth is that if they had voted for him that would have been the shortest way to realization of Igbo presidency. If Igbo were his sworn, do you think he would have even attempted to make them his vice? Rather, the fact shows that the Igbo have decided to make Buhari their sworn enemy for reasons known among the Igbo themselves.
