| The mystery Of Agege Bread? by Sapasenator(op): 6:44pm On Aug 19, 2024 |
Ever since my childhood, this bread has been particularly famous. It has been known as agege bread and no one has ever disputed the name of this delicious bread. Now I know this particular recipe is baked all over Nigeria and other African country but my curiosity lies with the origin of the name. Why is it called Agege bread? Does it mean it belongs to Agege or it's recipe was discovered in agege? Was it first baked in Agege? Anyone with a knowledge of the origin of this name? Why not Oshodi bread or Onitsha bread and at what point did we start referring to this loaf as Agege bread? Who named it Agege bread?

abba09:I eat that bread with hot milk for breakfast or Agege bread with hot pap with Peak milk. Sometimes, we would go to bakery to get hot agege. It used to be very cheap. I find the brioche bread to be a very good substitute for Agege bread. |

Sapasenator:It was when i was young i usually consume it. As soon as i'm grown and increased in knowledge. I stopped consuming it. Most of the bakers and the bakery are of poor hygiene. |

Just my theory tho... You know back then local bakeries weren't that common, so i'm thinking maybe the main point of this bread's distribution/making was mainly from AGEGE in lagos... And u know that whatsoever trends in lagos trends everywhere. Hence it's popularity. |

BItt:It was also sold on large quantities in other locations. Why Agege and not the name of some other locations. |

My big aunt was into sales of bread when I was growing up. According to her, there were lots of breads that time, but the agege bread was unique in it's taste and testure. And yes the bakery was in agege. There was Ghana bread too, the last time I saw that, was in Benin. It's usually sold by men" have the shape of banana and long" yellowish inside with a unique taste too. |
