Could this be a book about a poor mallam that lost his betrothed to a rich man and then went in search of an herbalist to help render their only child useless?

It's been long I read that book, but a phrase I will never forget I read in the novel was when the betrothed told the poor Hallam that, a woman is like a cloth in the market; it's not the first person that price it that eventually gets to buy it.

Damn! That phrase stuck to my mind, though I was in pry 4 then when I read the book.

Sometimes I wonder how I fell in love with reading novels. I presume it was out of sheer curiosity. Although I no longer read novels, I can't help but reminisce on the good ol' days.

I've read a lot of novels from authors such as Dante Alighieri, Leo Tolstoy, George R.R. Martin, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Stephen King, Dan Brown, Agatha Christie, J.K. Rowling, Mario Puzo, Robert Ludlum, J.R.R. Tolkien, Sidney Sheldon, George Orwell, Tom Clancy, James Patterson and our very own Chinua Achebe just to mention a few.

My personal favourite would be Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky.

l have read a lot of novels that can contain 20 foot container from the international novels e.g Frederick forysthe,Dan brown, Agatha Christie, Robert Ludlum ,, Jeffrey Archer, Harold Robbins,David Baldacci ,Jackie Collins etc and on the home front are Chinua Achebe,Flora Nwapa,, Chinamanda adiche etc . Have also gone through the James' hadley chase novels and the African pacesetter novels(this is where I cut my teeth in novels) My best novel (international) is NEVER LOVE A STRANGER by Harold Robbins and in the home front is THINGS FALL APART by Chinua Achebe. . Thank you.

I run a free library. So i am lookin to stock novels of different genres. There r still some parents who dey teach their kids. Some parents will come n borrow for their kids and beg me to drill them when they return the books to make sure they actually read them. Jss3 gals begging me to allow them read some grisham books n nora Roberts boooks. I no gree 😂 . I get their size. Make i no go turn kids to robots n mercenaries like boooks did me. I dey down Grisham since my jss2 days. Crime novels can make u reason ur environment like FBI. 😂

I dey ur shoes boss. I av tonnes of them on my phone. To read na wahala. I read davinci code on my fone, took me 15 days. If na hard copy. Haba shaperly i don digest am.

A few from Jeffery Archer, Sidney Sheldon, Robert Ludlum, etc.

But if you push me to pick one by force, I will go for "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follet

You have read only 20 and he is your best? Those 20 might not be part of his best. Wait till you read from like 60 upwards, you will become addicted. I finished reading all his over 100 books somewhere around 1994
